Kyokushinkai karate was founded by
Masutatsu Ōyama, which was born as Choi Yeong-eui on July 27, 1923
more commonly known as Mas Oyama,
The content in this video is made for informational and educational purposes, to show the origins of Kyokushin Karate. The images and commentary are meant to promote Karate's History, Kyokushin Karate and spread the teachings of Sosai Mas Oyama.

Sosai Mas Oyama was a karate master and founded Kyokushin Karate in 1964 which is a style of stand up karate, and was considered one of the first and most influential style of full contact karate.
"Kyokushinkai" is Japanese for "the ultimate truth".
This karate style is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard training.
In this video we discuss the Origins of Kyokushinkaikan.
Sosai Mas Oyama founded Kyokushinkai karate and left us with one of the greatest strongest full contact karate styles that is still practiced today by millions of practicioners worldwide
Kyokushin today, even do splintered into many factions continues to be recognized as one of the strongest style of karate.

Nak muay here: real kyokoshin fighters are a different breed. At keast on amateur level. Sparred a few very tough ones. Boxing skills are even worse then muay thai lol. But man they are tuff. I speak from these old school dudes. Really…tough dogs
The 3 Kyokushin fighters actually took time off to train in Muay Thai before they competed against the Thai boxers
kyokushin is the style that introduced Kickboxing as an American style combat sport, combined with muay thai
kyokushin is more like a mma strike base style derived from japanese and korean arts. like taekkyeon, okinawa karate(goju ryu and shotokan), judo and western boxing in the mix.
Kyokushin have so many Off-shoot styles. such as Ashihara kaikan, Enshin Kaikan, Shidokan, Daido Juku Kudo, American Kickboxing and Yaw Yan kickboxing.
We used to train under one organization during the 90 and even then some of sosai students splintered of and created their own styles
But after the passing of Sosai everybody broke of and that was the start of splintering kyokushin into many fractions and creations of new kyokushin spinoff style

@@kyokushinsocietyhigh rank students wanted to enter mma tournaments. At that time they were loosing to shoot fighters. Oyama wrote a letter to Jon Bluming in order to prepare their best kyokushin fighters into his all round fighting system. Unfortunately Mas Oyama died a few months after the letter. There is an interview of Jon Bluming itself explaining this on TH-cam I guess.
@@kyokushinsocietynot strictly true. The British Kyokushin Karate group were the first to break off as they felt that the Europeans weren’t being treated fairly enough by the referees. This group was to become IFK, lead by Hanshi a Steve Arneill. This happened in 1991, well before Oyama passed.

The two most important belts in my opinion are the white belt - the first days of your commitment to step on the Kyokushin dojo floor and your black belt Shodan consolidating your commitment to continue your training and never give up no matter the circumstances.
This is going to be the start of your journey at the DAN level which takes a life time of commitment :)

It's good that you mentioned that his first dojo taught as Goju Ryu, because the first karate school I learned from Amato's Karate in New Jersey is taught as Goju Ryu style, but it includes Shotokan Kata because it came from the Oyama lineage before the name change to Kyokushin. Later to focus more of kickboxing I switched to Schulmann Karate which is Oyama Karate lineage. It is interesting to see how the style evolved over the generations depending on when the split occurred.
Osu. Tiger Shulmann studied kyokushin and open his first dojo in Pennsylvania known as United American Karate and evolved and the name became Tiger Shulmann karate.
Anko Itosu and Gichin Funakoshi the founder of Shotokan Karate-Do thaught alot of students that developed their own style but with the same roots and then those people did the same as we see the evolution of karate today.
It is a very interesting subject to review

*the SEARCH for the ultimate truth

There is a massive amount of material on your YT Channel. The bone I have to pick, is the moniker of "Ultimate Truth, or Reality," which is really marketing glitz. Emphasizing the realism of full contact is legitimate.... That 'legitimacy,' however, comes not from full contact,,, it's foundation stems from the principles of the traditional karate styles. The emphasis on the full contact, drew a student population of those who simply wanted to physically dominate their opponent. As a consequence, the modern practice of Kyokushin is less traditional karate and more kickboxing with certain karate form. Far, far from the founder's Goju Ryu,,, which in reality, is a more powerful karate style by tradition.
You have a good valid point there.
When K1 fighting was founded it was heavily supported by Kyokushin. K1 back then was the top stand-up and probably the most well-regarded event in the world.
Kyokushin fighters like Andy Hug, Glaube Feitosa, Francisco Filho, Nicholas Pettas, and Peter Graham had alot of success in kickboxing.
Andy Hug actually is one of the most successful talented in my opinion and is my favorite. Kyokushin translates easily in kickboxing because it's fighting similarly and fluidity plus power of the kicks.
But even before K1 came about.. Sosai Mas Oyama wanted to prove its dominance of his style by letting his fighters to compete with others.
As of Kyokushinkai and it's meaning of the ultimate truth and if Sosai called it this because he wanted to market himself yes it probably is true Remember, kyokushin is a offspring of Goju and Shotokan and Judo etc.
Sosai Mas Oyama practiced these before he created his own style and in the beginning he did teach a form of Goju mixed with judo as a full contact including face punches in his first dojo and back then everyone wanted to be at the top of the chain I'm sure.
About Goju being a stronger karate - all karate are strong, they all have weaknesses and strenghts including kyokushin and at the same time it also depends on the practicioner itself. To be a versatile fighter in today's world you must be skilled in more than just one style I believe .

"TheKanji is the represenation (using Chinese characters) of the word kyokushinkai, which is the name of the ryu or style.
Translated kyoku means ultimate, shin means truth or reality and kai means to join or associate.
This concept has less to do with the western meaning of truth and is more in keeping with the bushido (warrior) concept of discovering the nature of ones true character when put to the test." - Wikipedia
One of the goals of kyokushin is to strengthen and improve character by challenging oneself through rigorous training.and if you truly get into the phylosophy and essence of the style it becomes a way of life and is so much more than just fighting which yes sadly not many people get.
So marketing glitz or not does not take away from the style itself and interfere with gojyu which in my opinion is a awsemo karate system. My base is and I was thaught Kyokushin and try to convey its message best I can and hope people see it more than just a merely fighting style.

Briefly, I feel the traditional karates are strong when practiced to traditional standards.. with the underlying principles. Full contact doesn't make karate strong... karate tradition makes karate strong. Cheers.
@@kyokushinsociety Part B. Kyo & Kickboxing. Yeah, this is my point, on Hug, etc. Went from Kyo to kickboxing... he self proclaimed how he loved to fight,,, lived for fighting. This is the way of the sport competitor, the physical athlete... not karate. Got into physical slug fests with very, big strong guys who ultimately hurt him badly. Very sad... to me.

@@kyokushinsociety Part D. Shiguru Oyama. This student of Mas Oyama was highly inspirational to me. He was sent to America as a Kyo emissary. His personal story was published on the internet at one time... now vanished. While many see him as another Kyo beacon... I don't see the style as important. What was important was that he was prepared to fight. The New York karate school he took over... the students thought they knew how to fight... what they knew was what plagues most all of karate to this day... karate in physical form... which isn't karate. Shiguru Oyama's philosophy about the full contact training made powerful food for thought.

I don't know much about the organizations there but I know that Canadian fighters are very good fast and strong.

@@kyokushinsociety I did not know that guess I was unlucky were I live in Hamilton Ontario I did Goju Ryu until my teacher retired but now I'm doing ITF Chang hon style taekwondo which it's a great off shoot of karate it has its strengths and weakness I also got to spar at a school which competes in Muay Thai but are Dutch kickboxers which is an offshoot of kyokushin which the coach Adam tells them lol remember your getting your ass kicked by a karate guy and he's being nice great guys at the gym there coach tells them not too underestimate anyone maybe I'll get lucky one day and there will be a kyokushin school in Hamilton Ontario or a Ichi deshi program I could join to learn the art

Dutch kickboxing wasn’t a combination of muay thai and kyokuchinkay karate?
I always admired kyokushinkay karatékas they are hard strikers but I don’t know how to explain,they hit dry,like they stop their movement,they don’t keep the momentum.
But a 100 days kumite that’s something to consider.
To me Muay Thai still is the discipline but respect to all the athletes of both sports.Because after all it’s all about athlétisme which comes from the Greek (άθλος)which means surpassing yourself.

No because his students was fighting not him.same goes with bull fight. He is fighting or rather wrestling with an ox not bull. Bull used in corrida would kill him in seconds. All just propaganda for naive kids. Put some black belt kyokushin sensei in the cage against profecional mma fighters and you will see how much this style is worth.
If anyone says they won 270 fights, against all styles, and no video footage exists (does any?) I smell the waste product of the animal Oyamo apparently fought.

Its a lie like most stories about Oyama. Just propaganda to spread kyokushin. When i was younger i was practicing kyokushin and i bielieved in all of this. But when i was older i made my own reserch and it opened my eyes. Bluming interviev. And in this video should also tell about Oyama was a smoker thats why he died from lung cancer it also was one of many dissepoinments about him.

He has some good sessions. You can watch it and see if it's something good for your son. He might be a little young for these sessions do. But check them out if you want.

To be precise : Translated, kyoku means "ultimate", shin means "truth" or "reality" and kai means "to join" or "to associate". Kyokushinkai, roughly translated, means "Association for Ultimate Truth".
