We must avoid treating karate as a sport.Your fingers and toes must be like arrows.Your arms must be like irons. If you kick, try to kick the enemy dead.If you punch, punch to kill. This is the spirit you need to progress in karate.

Have been doin karate since I was 6. Lifestyle that I can't give up.
My sensei once told me not to get involved in a fight again at school when I was 14. He told me that our hands are like weapons and we train because karate is art of being weapon to protect our beloved ones and not to destroy someone's face for simple reasons. Since that, have been avoiding fights for a long time. Sometimes soft guys think they can beat me up, and I apologize and leave them believe in what they think. Thanks for making our willpower so strong and teaching us to control our anger, Sensei! Ous!

I Love traditional karate. Unfortunately it became a circus with competitions shit (kata and kumite)
The problem is that competition is being taught and the original purpose of karate is not taught or is poorly taught and when you need to apply it you will fail. A punch is done in a way not because it is beautiful but because it is the most effective
The original pourpose of karate was self defense period.

      You are a fucktard.
      Kyokoshin is not traditional ANYTHING.
      learn your history.
Founded by oyama from his root style-goju.
He excelled at the go but his ju was nonexistant.
Also exiled to northen japan because he was to brutal.
Even shotokan, wich is mostly hard and a piwer karate, has its soft side.

    ENGLISH TRANSLATION
that was you see through the window
that what you see through the window
    a branche of shinning plums
    and on it
    its heat
that what you see through the window
    blue leaves in dazzling eyes
    hi to the mountain
    aaa first algaes
that what you see through the window
    the refreshing autumn wind
    around the mountain or
    the sound of the bell
    in life
    there is hope
    the evening is sad
    and life is short
that what you see through the window
in the house of frozen snow
    I think sleep
it really looks like to sleep
that what you see through the window
    a happy start
    exposure of branch

Indeed it is. Ile be honest I personally was a student of the Gokan Ru Karate style and I personally was humbled by what it was and after that I have respect for all styles of Karate including Shotokan and all other stylized forms. In essance Karate can be many things a sport for entertainment purposes but in many cultures such as Japan it is more than a sport like Sumo is a Religion linked art. Sumo and Japan are both an art ways of Life and many more.

I see Karate for what it really is a form of combat, no not a sport but combat. if i want art i'll go to an art museum, if i want to better myself i'll take self improvement classes, if i want to learn to defend myself i study combatives. many won't agree and that's fine these are my own feeling on the subject, what is real karate i'm not sure anybody really knows or ever did know for each person is different and see things differently so with karate and combatives for each person it has a very different meaning.

  • @walterhough4587

I agree karate is not a sport. When I started training back in the mid-80s. I bought my first trophy back from a tournament to my Kyoshi. He was not impressed. He said you can go to those if you want to but I'm training Warriors here. Martial arts have changed over the years but I still believe even though it is healthy and one should improve themself. Martial arts is taught to defend others and yourself. And my biggest enemy is myself Mind Body and spirit. As I'm older now I'm not impressed by tournaments either. I train to live and if I ever find myself in a combative situation I want to survive and go home to mine

I used to never agree when people said that karate was a sport. but nowadays I can see that karate was really an art just at its begining in okinawa. At the time it's taken by japanese civilization, they changed it adding moviments based on kendo, distance in combat, geting in with an atack , more than with the eficiency of self defence stuff like grab techniques or fingers. Now the result we can se is that most karate was brought around the worold by masters who got a kinda opened mind, consequently, there are at the minimum two versions of karate. One is the so-called traditional that most times acts based on a certain prejudice if you are not from okinawa/japan, and the other version that promotes the "for everybody sport karate" version. I got some friends living in japan and associated to traditional institutes who got really depressed by the way they were treated just because they are "gaijin". So I concluded: why would one adore a culture whose the creators act based on prejudice? I mean, the most start adopting the "sport karate" like a way to self expression, more than way that "belong not for you if you're not japanese". That is also applied to the creation of TKD, Kickboxing and Bjj. The responsables for sport karate are trying to preserve something more than create another one with different names to be sold. but it's just an opinion, I was one who once adore the traditional as same as most here at the comments.

      @bill7778 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Cole Waite 1. If you are Japanese then you can train "real" karate.
      2. if not, there is always "sport" Karate, which is more fun and less discriminatory.
