  • Newsnight tribute to Gerry Anderson 11/1/13.
I went to Gerry's funeral today and it was a very touching experience. Around 300 people attended the service to pay their respect. It was nice to see old friends and make new ones. All united due to the legacy of Gerry's work. From Twizzle to New Captain Scarlet, he was always at the top of his game. Thank you Gerry for all the happy memories your shows have given us. FAB.

Here in Italy the Thunderbirds arrived in the early 1970s, after UFO. I was 10 at the time, then came Space:1999. He was a visionary that made our childhood a happy place to be :-)

I had the privilege of seeing Gerry during his one man stage shows in 1992; I was 8 years old at the time and it was in sweltering summer in Salisbury, near Romsey where I lived back then, but it was one of the highlights of my childhood. Gerry was a true genius, a man who gave kids like me hours and hours of entertainment. His final comment in this clip about how humanity hasn't moved on is very true...what a shame that his science fiction couldn't become science fact. RIP Gerry, we miss you so much,

I loved Gerry Andersons shows even as a 90s kid, stingray, captain scarlet, thunderbirds, joe 90 and fireball xl5 were the best R.I.P.

True visionary, his legacy is being maintained and honoured by his son Jamie. Fireball XL5 is on the Talking Pictures Channel on Saturday afternoon and Thunderbirds starts next month on the same channel, free to view in UK

Captain Scarlett in the eighties? That was late 60,s early 70,s? I always thought anyway Brian?

The Destiny Angel actress was wrong. Good definitely did not always prevail in Captain Scarlet. In many episodes, Spectrum simply lost and the Mysterons won.
