- To commemorate the death of Gerry Anderson, Fanderson, the official Gerry Anderson society, have produced a video telling the story of Gerry's diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease.
Gerry and his son Jamie, talk frankly about living with Alzheimer's and Gerry's work with the Alzheimer's Society to create awareness and raise money for the cause.

Gerry and Sylvia gave me so much throughout my childhood, hiding behind the sofa from Robbie the robot (I know, Robbie's a good guy I was a tiny kid), Thunderbirds Stingray and my absolute favourite, UFO.
I hate the faceless thief that Alzheimer's is, stealing the people we love from us. Thanks for sharing this part of your dad's life Jamie.
very brave of gerrys son to talk about his dads illness
Although it was of course incredibly sad when Gerry's son mentioned that his dad didn't remember him, but when Gerry referred to him as such later, that broke me. I've never had an experience with anyone who has Alzheimer's, so I didn't know how much it was affecting him during the interview here, and it was just a strange thing to hear.
This is a fantastic documentary, a great insight into Alzheimer's for me, as well as an insight into the last years of the great man. Thank you.
PLEASE can someone get this broadcast on BBC, ITV or Channel 4. Deserves a much wider audience. I work with Alzheimer's sufferers, this should be a training video. Gerry's "big bro" son could teach so much to those caring, professionally or as family, and provide support. Brilliant.
I was raised by my grandparents. Alzheimer's took my grandmother in 1995.

my mum had this awful awful disease for the last 7 years of her life . i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy . i didn't know Gerry had this until later . my ultimate hero . i feel completely devastated that this genius ended his amazing career in this way . R.I.P . you was and always will be my absolute hero . heartbroken .

Beautiful documentary. Sorry that I only just discovered it. Gerry brought a sense of wonder to my childhood (I’ve still got it at 60!) and I’ll never forget him and his work. Lovely to see Jamie speak so openly and warmly about his dad. RIP Gerry.
what a great story, what a great man. his son should be justly proud. my nan died of alzheimers on boxing day too. its a bastard robbing complaint but irt cannot take our memories of those we love, we are their strength. I am humbled by this man.
one memory that makes me smile, whilst serving in the RAF a helicopter pilot came into our flight crew room and saw me making a model of thunderbird 2 and lit up, raised his visor and said, I wanted to be the pilot of thunderbird 2 and thats what made me learn to fly!! you see that is the wonder of this mans imagination which has touched generations and still does to this day.
A great man in my heart, my memories. My mother is dead with Alzheimer's in 2020.
The sad thing is that Gerry was estranged from his son for many years. His divorce from Sylvia was very acrimonious and it caused a rift that took years to heal. Great to see his son working to keep Gerry's legacy alive.
I think Gerry has two sons. Jamie is the son Gerry had with Mary.
As my mother is just showing the first signs of this cruel condition, I know I will probably be going down a similar path as Gerry's family. As a young boy Gerry's shows of the 1960s fuelled my mind with so much imagination and enjoyment. Makes this moving piece so very relevant to myself now as a 58 year old son. RIP Gerry Anderson.

Amazing video - really insightful and touching. Clearly Jamie is immensely proud of his father. I'm sure Gerry would be just the same of his son to see his strength and support.
This film so beautifully and truthfully made. It needs to be put on public TV channels to make people of all ages and generations aware of this devastating disease.
My Mother had Alzheimer's disease. It's a truly heartbreaking situation to watch. Gerry Anderson RIP. He was one of my heroes.

Gerry Anderson died of complications from Alzheimer's on Dec. 26, 2012. Thank Heaven his son Jamie is around to carry on his dad's legacy. I know what Jamie and the rest of the Anderson family went through; my father spent his last years suffering from dementia. God bless you and your family, Jamie. Rest in peace, Gerry. F.A.B.

Really informative. My Mother was dealing with Alzheimer's disease, although she passed away from leukemia. (Also in the same year as Gerry Anderson, 2012, though he outlived her by 6 months.) Since she was in the early stages, she still knew who everybody was. I applaud Jamie Anderson for his inner strength... I don't know how I'd have reacted if I'd visited my Mom one day and she asked, "Who are you?" Gerry Anderson will always be a blessing to so many of us who grew up loving his various series over the decades....
I had a very big influence on my childhood in the 60's by the Thunderbirds, I was fascinated with the aircraft, equipment and the wonderful stories, I didn't miss an episode. I remain fascinated with aviation, having been a pilot for 44 years ( and counting ) and still in awe of Thunderbirds. Our respects from Brazil. 😢❤

How sad! So many of us had our childhoods enriched by a Gerry Anderson show: for me it was Terrahawks; for my friend Melanie, it was Captain Scarlet.

My uncle and My Dad died from Alzheimers........I grew up with and LOVED Gerry Andersons wonderful worlds. RIP to 3 very dear men - why cant someone DO something to cure this awful illness?😢 I wish we had know earlier about this, I support Alzheimers as it is hereditary so I know i have this to come, so does my brother. It is an catastrophic illness destroying minds and people. Dad had forgotten most people near the end but just about remembered me - but had forgotten about his brother and my brother. I still shed tears over this and we miss him and Dear Gerry all my thoughts are with you all who have family members who suffer from this evil malady.

It's even harder when you spot a disability or illness in a YOUNGER person! You can expect a sharp rebuttal and possibly the end of a friendship. I saw a former roomie was clearly a candidate for mental illness and suggested disability insurance. He sent an indiscreet, insulting postcard to my job and I had to endure an investigation for a year! Now, he's sorry he didn't listen to me. People around you can notice stuff. That's when you get a second opinion -- you don't blow it off!
It's depressing that Gerry claimed on record that he'd rather forget Terrahawks (one of my all-time favourite programmes). It's also tragic that he probably DID forget it, towards the end, on account of the Alzheimer's; you obviously have to be careful what you wish for. Sorry!
People are living longer.
But there is no drug to fix this...
the future forecasts for alzheimers are frightening.......until we clean up our environments, breath clean air and consume non polluted food and water things will not get better. our immune systems are being destroyed by these things
