  • Documentary on the making of Thunderbirds & all the other worlds of Gerry Anderson. Featuring interviews with Gerry Anderson, Ed Bishop, Francis Matthews, Christine Glanville & Derek Meddings. Edited by myself back in 1992 to a radio documentary from the 1980's. I made it in between my college course in TV/Video Production. Edited on VHS.

An insightful factual presentation. It’s surprising how much original behind the scenes footage was taken. Be interesting to discover exactly where in Slough the AP studios were located.👍

I watched Captain scarlet here in the Philippines on ABC 5
now TV5. I like their affects. Not only that but their puppets.

Meddings' fascinating account of making model vehicles from household objects dressed in kit parts is a bit deceptive given the images over which his words are placed. Almost all the main vehicle models - things like Thunderbird 2, Stingray etc. - were sophisticated hand-sculpted forms, the work being farmed out to professional model-making company Master Models. The things Meddings is talking about would be largely the one-off guest vehicles etc.

Interesting to note my guess about the name Supermarionation was not far off. Loved these shows, Fireball XL5 being my first full Series of Sci-fi, just prior to Dr.Who. If you do not mind, I will add to my page. :)

I loved the Thunderbirds as a kid. We lived in LA at the time and there was a huge selection of shows on the UHF channels. I never even knew about the other puppet shows. Are any of these available on DVD?

Hi, "Captain Scarlet and The Mysterions" and "Joe 90" are on DVD rental/purchase, as is the "real people" series "UFO" (with Ed Bishop as Cmdr Straker/Cmdr of S.H.A.D.O.). Regards.

Brings back the "very old" days. What's going to be remembered by todays' kids ... Spongebob? ... Bart Simpson? ... Elmo? Mindless generation. Gen-dumb.
