    I believe this is the classic check valve within the fuel pump going bad. Pump is fine because it runs great after you start it. Once engine is off pressure drops due to bad check valve (fuel rail pressure drops and fuel goes back into tank) so not as much fuel immediately available at the next startup. Check valve is part of pump so have to replace whole unit. If you turn the key on once or twice before starting this primes the rails and will make it appear to be fine. It is just that initial prime is not enough. Thanks for sharing

      My 2007 Tahoe only Prime's the pump once when you key it up it will not do it multiple times because it's a returnless system it does not want to overpressure it same with every other Tahoe after 07 I've looked at priming the fuel pump does not fix low fuel pressure in one of these

      Thats not really true... because if it cranks the motor will usually run due to pulling fuel on its own. Fuel pumps go out all the time but still work sometimes with a tap or bump to get motor turning on the pump with power to it

    I was thinking the same thing about. Maybe I just need a tuneup. So I change the plugs and wire. But it was still not starting on the first key turn. It turn out to be my fuel pump was bad. Replaced the pump and anything works fine now.

    • @thebasshunter
      @thebasshunter  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Zeek Rivera on the 10 point scale. It's about a 6 for one man. You have to run the gas in the truck low as you can. Pass the gas light coming on. At that point you still will about 3 to 5 gallons of gas still in the tank. You will need some car ramps and back the truck up on the ramps. So the rear of the truck is in the air. Then get your floor jack and a piece of wood about 2ft long. Place the wood on top of the jack. Jack up the jack and the wood under the gas tank to support the tank. Then you can remove the tanks metal straps that hold the tank to the truck. Then you disconnect all the gas lines and wires from the fuel pump. It is kind of hard to tell you what to do from here. Just because it's about it's two lines in the front of the tank and two in the back of the tank. The full hose where you full the tank with gas and two lines on top of the fuel pump. With two wire connections on the fuel pump. I hope that helps.

    many shop offer a fuel injector purge. they can hook up on the fuel rail and clean the injectors to make sure the injectors are in top shape. my 05 avalanche had an issue with the vapor system and I had to change the solenoid. and purge valve.

    My 06' Suburban always takes two tries to start and now it's been randomly stalling out . I suspect it's probably the fuel pump . When I press the Schraeder valve where the tester goes just a tiny bit of fuel came out I'm going to get a tester .

      Gas is supposed to spray out when you depress Schrader valve at fuel rail you'll know it when it's good when it's bad a lil tiny squirt may come out or very faint stream not nearly good enough usually in tank fuel pump needs replacement have fun with that dropping the tank getting ring off and fuel lines without breaking them you have at least a weekend of fun ahead of you if you do it right and clean tank out... I've done too many from 96 to current caused by running tank empty too much I get it gas is expensive but swapping the pump is way more costly

    I am getting a steady 45 psi on my car 2011 suburban 5.3. I feel like its dumping fuel because my fuel gauge goes down more than normal. I see everyone else mention 50 to 60 at the rails but i am using my expensive x431 scan tool to check everything. All of a sudden after 1 month of using e85 its been extremely bad. Fuel gauge drops fast. I cant find no wet fuel leaks by the engine compartment. My mpg normal at 15 to 18. Now feels like 6. I am also using a scan gauge to read the mpgs and its not bad hwy is 18mpg both dash and scan gaugeii. What the hell is there a small leak some where only when its on?

    • @thebasshunter

      The fuel is made into the fuel pump. It’s not like old silver regulators from back in the date. If you are having starting and you have changed the fuel pump you might want to look at your cam positioning sensor and your cam positioning sensor. They will also make you truck hard to start. I charged my sensors first and that did not fix my problem then I changed my fuel pump and that fixed my problem. You may have wanted to check the fuel pressure on the fuel rail before change your fuel pump. If the pressure was fine then you know it ‘s was something else. Like the sensors. Good luck.

I have worked on my vehicles for years and have bought a lot of tools at harbor freight. There is nothing wrong with them unless you are concerned with impressing other people with a brand name. Yes, they are made in China. So are craftsman, cobalt, and most of the other brands that aren't snap-on. Most of their tools have a lifetime warranty, which is more then you can say for a lot of the big box store tools now. I have a mix of all kinds and brands of tools in my tool box and I would put harbor freight up against any of them.

      As a test, buy a Harbor Freight and perform a side by side test with a brand name costing 4 times as much like Snap-on or Mikita.
      You will see that the Harbor Freight tools performs just as good and will give the same readings.

I don't know if that has anything to do with your truck running bad. You need a fuel pump. But my stability trac light still comes on and goes off for about 5 seconds about every 6 months. I don't pay much attentions to it.

      That could be your crankshaft positioning sensor. I have a video where I replaced my thanking that was my problem with the long cranking time. But is was not the problem. But it is a little sensor on the bottom side of the engine above the starter. Or do some research on your camshaft positioning sensor. It my have something to do with it. I don’t know much about thing but I replaced mine also. These sensor are like $30 a piece. The camshaft positioning sensor is located on the front of the engine under the water pump. You can see it but you can feel it. I don’t have a video on the that sensor. Mostly likely one of these is your problem.

      Gene Ray Yes, it was build into the fuel pump. So I had to replace my fuel pump to fix the problem.

      Gene Ray I couldn't find mine either! And it's reaking fumes to high heaven. So I guess I'm going to replace the fuel pump.

      bigdaddy8896 I had that problem too. After I replaced the fuel pump. About a year later I was smelling gas fumes. And every time I would fill up with gas about a half of gallon with spill out. And I could not figure out where it was spilling from. I had to down my gas tank and the fuel regulator on the top of the fuel pump had popped out of the fuel pump. So I had a half an inch hole on the top of my fuel pump where gas was leaking out. So I had replace the pump again. But the pump was under warranty. So that could be something to think about.

      BassHunter thanks bro. I still have the original in with 130,000 on it. When did they start putting the regulator in the pump, late 2003? I have a 2004 Z71.

    • @thebasshunter
      @thebasshunter  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      randyusmc it was my fuel pump. It was not have pushing or holding enough pressure to start the truck on the first key turn. It would have to turn over several time to start. So I changed my fuel pump and it fixed that problem.

      awesome thanks alot man my yukon I'd doing the same damn thing so I just ordered the ac Delco one. what brand did you get? I was going to try the 70 dollar replacement brand but read they leak.

    • @thebasshunter
      @thebasshunter  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      randyusmc I got the AC Delco also. But I just had to replace that fuel pump again about two weeks ago. The pressure sensor popped out the top of the fuel pump. So it left a dime size hole in top of the pump. Every time I would fill it up. About a gallon of gas would Leak out.

      @thebasshunter  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      D-NICE LEE It was my fuel pump. It was not producing enough fuel pressure to start the truck on the first key turn. So I replaced the fuel pump and that fixed my problem. The reason you have to replace the fuel pump is the fuel pressure regulator is build into the fuel pump. Sad I know but that how it is. Thanks for watching.

    I was getting injector malfunction code on cylinder 6 and random misfire code I replaced all plugs, wires, cleaned all injectors and tested injector wires with noid light. I had to replace one injector and cleaned the rest and truck still runs like shit. White smoke and raw fuel. I also keep getting these same issues on the pressure gauge. I'm thinking fuel pump but it's a $300 + pump diy so I'm trying the simplest things first. It runs perfect when front end is jacked up but as soon as I let down on the jack right before my eyes it will huff and puff and jerk and knock and turn on engine light and pour white smoke out the exhaust that is thick and very suffocating. Fuel pressure regulator? Or pump? Any ideas please help!!!!

      @thebasshunter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jorge Vasquez sorry it has took me this long to get back with but I been fishing. But make problem was my fuel pump. Because me fuel regulator is made into my fuel pump. So you have to change the fuel pump to change the fuel regulator and the fuel filter. All that is made into the fuel pump. Sounds like your fuel regulator to me but I’m now a mechanic.

    • @vunit8223
      @vunit8223 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BassHunter thank you so much for getting back to me on this. I was wondering if the regulator was a part of the pump because I could not find a single video or anything that showed me otherwise. And as far as the fuel filter being tied into the pump as well...I was thinking that to, but it makes it so much better to hear from someone that has went through it already. Everyone wants to scream compression test when I baby this truck and sometimes she runs fine. Thank you again so much and I appreciate it.

    • @vunit8223
      @vunit8223 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BassHunter did you ever get thick white smoke from tailpipe that smelled like raw gasoline ? I'm sure it's the pump now because when it's jacked up in the front it runs fine but as soon as I let the jack down it starts bucking and puffing and misfiring .

    • @thebasshunter
      @thebasshunter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jorge Vasquez No, I never got the smoke. Maybe your truck’s computer is try to make up for the lack of fuel pressure and dumping to much gas in to a cylinder or two. But as for you jacking the truck up and it running fine. Is a mystery. I don’t know what that could be.

    • @vunit8223
      @vunit8223 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BassHunter thank you for helping me troubleshoot. I think the jacking up the truck moves the fuel to the rear and "maybe" the skewer or "sock" that filters the gas or whatever filters inside there had something blocking fuel from getting in ....idk, but I do know ima get at it today and watching videos like yours makes it a heck of a lot easier. Thanks again.
