    Hey thanks for the great video! I have the Canon 90D but I'm still filming with my phone while I learn to use it, so I found your info about the lenses quite useful. I already have the 50 and was thinking I needed the 24 because it's hard to be so far from the camera (and my window lighting), but your video quality looks amazing with the 50, so I will find a way to make it work! Your sound is great too, thanks for listing your equipment in the description box, And keep up the good work :)

      Thank you so much! The 24mm is great for getting a bit closer, but definitely not required to make videos look good! I use the 24mm on occasion, but not as frequently as the 50mm. If you can find a good used one at a good price, that may be a great option. But don't feel like you absolutely have to have it immediately.

    Great comparison! I use my nifty 50mm as a great walkaround lens, and it can be used for a variety of shots, except for wide group photos. But the 24mm would be
    better for environmental or landscape flicks: I have used the 24mm in a 24-70mm zoom lens and enjoy the perspective!

      Thank you! If you want something for vlogging, I would suggest looking into a wide prime like the sigma 16mm or something comparable to it. That particular lens is a bit expensive, but hopefully it can be a good place to start looking. Perhaps a wide zoom could work too! I haven't personally gotten my hands on these, but I've heard great things! And I have more videos on the way! University has been hectic, so they've been delayed. Glad you enjoyed the video!

    This was a helpful video. Which lens do you suggest for making close up baking videos? (like ones where I won't be in the shot and only the item I am making will be)

    • @galacticgrizz3951
      @galacticgrizz3951  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For that, I would personally go with the 50mm. It will allow you to keep the camera out of your way a bit more so you can move around, while being cropped in on the thing you are making. (Unless you want the camera to be fairly close to the item.) But either should work. The main deciding factor is where you want the camera to be set up for your videos.

    Great video, thank you. I am hoping you can help me. I'm trying to decide which lens would be best for over head recording. I do crochet tutorials and I'm not sure which one would be better for close up views that I need. It looks like the 50 mm might not give me enough range...am I right on this? If you were doing overhead table view style videos, what would you use? Much appreciated

    • @galacticgrizz3951
      @galacticgrizz3951  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question! It all depends on how far above the subject your camera is. I recently shot an overhead video with the 24mm, but I just had the camera on a tripod, so it was rather close to the table I was using. If the camera is further away, you will probably want something like the 50mm, or even tighter. Especially if you want to be very close for details. But again, it just depends on your setup.

    Both lenses have a unique feel. With the types of films I have in mind, having both seems the right option. Wide angles are good for establishing shots, while the 50mm would be good for setting a mood in close ups. I'm going to sleep on this, though. I already have the 50mm on the way, but I have enough money saved for the 24mm too. It's just a question of whether or not I want a wide lens quickly or if I'm willing to wait while I continue saving for the Sigma 16mm.

    • @galacticgrizz3951
      @galacticgrizz3951  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good choice! I would recommend taking some time to get used to the 50mm. Have some fun with it! You may be able to afford that 16mm by the time you're done! (I would recommend more research, as I haven't gotten the chance to use the Sigma)

    • @thestarkiller01
      @thestarkiller01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@galacticgrizz3951 I've looked into the 16mm quite a bit, and it is one sexy lens for low light and wide angles. I only just started looking into other EF and EF-S lenses today as I just received the mount adapter that accommodates both yesterday. The 50mm was always in the plans, but the 24mm just came to my attention today. It seems like a nice lens, but perhaps you're right. Saving for the 16mm might be the better option. Then again, I may come to the conclusion that I want all three lol. Again, I need to sleep on this.

    • @marcs8325

      I have both and use them with a 250d. The 50 mm is nice for portraits, the 24 is more general purpose. With a crop factor of 1.6 you get 38 mm on the 24, and 80 mm on the 50.
      So the 50 mm lens is a lot more "zoomed in".
      I like the primes because of their small size and low weight.

    • @galacticgrizz3951
      @galacticgrizz3951  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the venue, what situation you are in, and what shots you're wanting. The 50mm will allow you to get shots from further away, which is less intrusive, but it will be a bit difficult to get wide shots. If you're in a tight space, or want wide shots, the 24mm would probably be better.
