I have a Panasonic Aero frame road bike...built in 1981...Years before others claimed they built the first Aero frame bikes...Japanese steel road bikes are the best bikes ever !!!
Who was claiming that years after the fact? 1981 is when Shimano released their AX aerodynamic groupset. Miyata had an aero frame by 82, as did others I'm sure, and Araya had aero rims.
Totally vintage! Threaded headsets and steel forks. They must have a huge stock of old Dura Ace parts for these that they’re using up to satisfy people who want an old school style bike. I was wondering about the lugged and brazed construction. Only the titanium frame was modern style construction using welding.
I’m a new bike enthusiast. Outside of japan, this custom build bike are usually done by a single craftsman in simple workshop. This is the first time I’ve ever seen it’s done in a factory using large machinery but still maintaining the high quality of a bespoke product. Thank you for your hard work 🙏
It's "in a factory" but the tools and techniques are the ones I'd expect to see in any small artisan bike maker. The jigs and fixtures are for accuracy, not speed.

Panasonic makes everything from bikes to prefab houses (Panahome). I lived in Japan from 95-97 and I recall seeing a commercial for an early ebike. In the commercial, it talked about how going downhill to the station in the morning was a breeze but going uphill on the way home was bothersome. Now, there's a solution!
I am Swiss - I didn’t know that such artisanal bikes are still produced in Japan - great to know Btw I have produced some 10 bike frames in my late teens- early twenties (1973 to 1978) these artisans are masters

To my knowledge, Japan is the only country with Italy that can still manufacture a whole bike with 100% of the components made in the country. Incredible craftmanship.
No doubt it’s brazed you’re right translation error in German „hart löten“ is with brass or silver and löten is with tin (for electric/electronic) Welding would weaken the thin steel tubes to much- the Ti tubes in the film are being welded there I was astonished that it was done in normal atmosphere I thought it must be done in atmospheare without oxigene (in German „Schutzgas“)

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the Keirin frame introduced to the mix... I have two Panasonic Keirin frames-a 2020 and a 2018-and they are among my favorites. To witness where they were made has my mind in hula-hoops. So dope. Incidentally, to acknowledge a criticism here in the comments, one of my frames has a single decal on the drive-side chain stay... The other has a decal on every tube on both sides of the frame... I love them equally and find the branding adorable-regardless of its presence :)

You just reminded me that I used to use Panasonic tubular tires years ago. They were around half the price of the Italian tires. The Italian tires were very expensive.

I ride a 1993 Bridgestone RB-1. American designed (Grant Peterson), Japanese owned and built. Panasonic built a lot of bikes for Schwinn. In fact, by the 1980s, just about all Schwinns were built in Japan - the Schwinn Paramount excepted which was built in Waterford, Wisconsin. I also ride an '86 Paramount.
i wanted a dx5000 and have been looking for years for one to turn up, or the even more eleusive ti model. knowing i can buy one new someday makes me so happy. ty japan for being awesome.
Truly amazing that frame technology circa 1980, with quill stems, steel lugged frames, steel forks with threaded steerers, and threaded cupped bottom brackets are still being manufactured now, in Japan. But then I understand the fax machine is still very popular there, so it makes sense!

I have Panasonic bike from 1993 with 600 Ultegra and still ride it though the components are replaced to Claris recently. Very good bike. Will keep riding it!
I worked in the Cycling Industry for 10 yrs+, rode many bikes from all materials, but now as I have a clearer understanding of what makes a good ride, I ride a custom lugged steel frame, carbon can only imitate Steels' superb riding qualities.

私のクロモリバイクは、ブリヂストンのネオコットとパナのPOS。カイセイ8630Rを使ったカーボンフォークモデルが出てすぐの頃購入。
POSのいいところは、気軽に信頼できる自分だけのフレームが手に入るところ。
価格を見ると、私が購入した頃よりはるかに高騰しているけれど、それでもカラーオーダーもできるし、ジオメトリーも日本人向けで細かいサイズ展開だしで、その飽きのこない伝統的なデザインからも、まだまだ存在意義は大きいと思う。
POSの信頼性は、はるかに高額なビルダー製作品をも凌ぐものという点も非常に大きい。
ロードバイクブームは去ったけれど、これからも頑張って続けてほしい。

30年前に買ったパナソニック製の自転車を、日常の足として使っています。
塗装・印刷が所々剥げて、ギアやブレーキやタイヤなども交換していますが、フレームは未だにしっかりしています。
クロモリは丈夫だと言われますが、本当に墓場まで持っていけそうです。
上がりの一台はパナチタンで決まりました。貴重な取材動画ありがとうございました。
10年ぐらい前のパナ製のシクロクロス車を持っています。

このロゴとカラーリングのパナソニックフレームがツールで活躍した当時のカタログ、まだ大切に保管してます。やはり、とても誇らしかった。
ある程度の年齢の方は、皆このカラーリングには憧れているのでは無いでしょうか。

80年代の広告ではオランダのパナソニックチームとパナの完成車が一緒に写っていましたね。ところが当時のレース写真を見ると、パナソニックカラーに塗装されたエディ・メルクスやラレーのフレームだったりします。実際にはヨーロッパのレースで国産のパナのフレームは使われていなかったような。ミヤタのクロモリはコガミヤタチームが実際にヨーロッパで使用し、世界で通用するのが証明されていましたけどね。

かつてパナソニックのクロモリフレームは、BB部のパイプとラグの溶接部にロウがあまりまわっておらず、隙間だらけのフレームも実在しました。面で接合しているのではなく、点で接合しているイメージと言うと伝わりやすいでしょうか。今のクオリティはどうか知りませんが、BB内を見てパイプとラグがしっかりと密着しているか確認することをオススメします。見えない所の作りはずいぶん杜撰なんだな、これでよく検品が通ったなというのが当時の私の印象です。

このパナソニックカラーって3000円のアップチャージだった気がするけど、手作業でマスキングしてたのか。しかも組付け前にBBのタッピングもリアメカハンガーのアライメント調整もしてくれてるのか。このフレーム20万は安すぎる。
2016年モデルから、レーシングデザインのアップチャージは+8,000円(税抜)になってます。
トレンドに流されずに、いつまでも金属フレームの魅力を伝え続けて欲しいブランドである。
また日本に住んだら絶対に買いたい職人の自転車です。
