I switched from simple carbs to complex carbs. I eat more vegetables than fruits. I have lost 41kgs this year without exercise. I want to start weight lifting.
Wow, having a health teacher love the info is the ultimate compliment! Thanks so much for sharing this with your students - gotta spread the golden health knowledge around! Maybe one day I can even film a guest lecture for your class
I can remember Dr Kibe saying that we need to take more boiled chicken than the fried one. Now I get the explanation. I really like the way the Doc here explains everything.
What an eye opening conversation! Thank you for bringing Dr. Daniel on board, very informative, I can attest we’ve been doing it wrong all this while 😢 especially on the fruit part where you are told to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
I can testify what he said is true. I was 95 KGs in November 2023 and I have cut down to 80KGs as of today. I quit all sugar and carbs and increased physical activity thru walking only. The game of weight loss I have come to discover is all about insulin.
I was referred to Dr. Katambo 2 years ago. Unfortunately I have never booked that appointment. Today after watching this am wowed and I have gotten all the drive I needed. Am making that booking and coming to see you Daktari. .
Very interesting conversation, i was hooked to the very end. Thanks Daktari for the amazing work. However, 3500/= is a bit expensive for normal folks but ofcourse it's cheaper relative to the Ultimate cost of lifestyle diseases. I will purpose to have the book at some point. But if you could make ebooks of the book Daktari, i.e. soft copy version, i believe it would be a bit affordable, easier to access and read, and also convenient for the digitalized generation. Ciao.
Thanks so much for watching and sticking with it to the end! That truly means a lot. I totally hear you on the price point. 3500 isn't exactly pocket change, but you're right, it's definitely an investment in your health compared to the bigger picture. On the ebook tip, that's a fantastic suggestion! We're actually working on making a digital version of the book available. It might take a little bit longer to get things finalized, but stay tuned because I'll definitely be letting you know when it's ready.
Thanks for sharing this. Am getting his book. Most of the information shared on the internet is not tailored to fit our African experience. This is pure gold. What are his SM handles?
I'm so glad you found the video helpful. Getting the author's book is a great idea - there's probably even more valuable content in there. So much online information isn't relevant to African experiences. That's why we created this series for you. Talk to Dr. Katambo here: afyacode.com/
On whether there is a difference if one takes simple sugars or not. It matters coz example if you take juice, in an hour's time you want to take more food but if it's complex carb, one would still be satisfied and unlikely to want take food!
Thanks for the suggestion. I think a video on the reproductive system, ovulation cramping, and hormones would be super informative! Let me see if I can find an expert to chat with In the meantime, did you have any specific questions you'd like me to cover?
This way of eating is unlikely to completely reverse asthma, but it can definitely help manage symptoms. A healthy diet can reduce inflammation in the body, which can improve lung function and make it easier to breathe. If you're interested in learning more about managing asthma through diet, we recommend talking to the doctor about your concerns.
Lifestyle is more than just eating or intermittent fasting. You need to stay active and get sufficient exercise as well which leads to improved blood flow and oxygen capacity of the lungs. Overall health mindset. Intermittent fasting and reducing intake of calorie rich foods (carbohydrates and sugars) helps control spikes in blood sugar levels. Spikes in blood sugar levels in turn leads to insulin release spikes to counter the high blood sugar levels. Insulin spikes in turn leads to fat accumulation in the liver; fatty liver disease leads to insulin resistance! A vicious cycle has been established! Weight gain then starts. You need to break out of this cycle to stop weight gain and reverse it entirely! Reduce the intake of simple carbohydrates and other sugar rich foods (including fruits). You get all the vitamins and nutrients needed by the body from vegetables; fruits which are high in sucrose and fructose are not necessary!
You're absolutely right, fasting isn't the whole picture! It's like that awesome training montage in a movie - gotta have the workout AND the healthy diet to truly transform. High five for mentioning exercise and blood flow - it's like giving your body a superhero upgrade. Now, about the carbs and fruits. You make a great point about sugar spikes, but fruits can still be part of a healthy lifestyle. The key is portion control and choosing lower-glycemic options like berries. Think of them as nature's candy - delicious and good for you in moderation. Vegetables are definitely our vitamin champions, but fruits bring a party of antioxidants too. Let's ditch the "vicious cycle" talk and focus on building a sustainable, healthy routine. We can swap sugary drinks for water, sneak more veggies into meals, and find ways to move our bodies that we actually enjoy. Baby steps lead to big changes! What are some of your favorite ways to stay active? I'd love to hear them!
Jagero make it a rule to read someones book or at least a simple analysis of the book before coming to the podcast, its professional that way than just opening pages anyhow, good content.
Cooking methods can definitely affect nutrients in vegetables, but it's not all bad news. Here's the breakdown: Some nutrients are more sensitive: Water-soluble vitamins like Vitamin C and B vitamins can leach out during boiling. But some become more available! Heat can actually make some nutrients, like lycopene in tomatoes, easier for your body to absorb. Quick cooking is key: Steaming, microwaving, or stir-frying with a little healthy fat can help retain more nutrients. No matter how you cook them, vegetables are a great source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. So the most important thing is to enjoy them!
That's a great question! Athletes are definitely sugar-burning machines, but there are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 is more about your body not producing enough insulin, kind of like a key not fitting the lock for sugar to enter your cells. Even with all that exercise, if you have Type 1, your body still needs help.
While I agree with the good doctor I disagree with his suggestion that sugar is the only culprit as far as weight gain is concerned. Remember in his own words he says that Proteins can be converted to Carbs meaning if you eat too much proteins then you still have too much carbs to deal with. When all is said and done it is calories in and calories out and proteins and fats have more calories than carbohydrates
That's fascinating! Unconsciously healthy - that's a dream! Would love to hear more about your routine in your 20s. Did you just naturally gravitate towards healthy choices?
I think the reason why Africans are also struggling with obesity is lack of movement , we use to go to school, work, church by foot but now we take bodaboda, we have our cars, ...no one want to move
Jagero I feel cheated, well can I say tricked, I followed the link, paid and got a different book in return, which book are you selling on the link above?
Dr. Katambo was recommended to me by my dermatologist. Being here is part of my research on him and I am in awe! This is mind-blowing information
Thanks alot. I am glad you found him

I’m a health teacher in high school. This info is golden and everyone who wants to achieve optimal health should practice his advice ❤
Wow, having a health teacher love the info is the ultimate compliment! Thanks so much for sharing this with your students - gotta spread the golden health knowledge around! Maybe one day I can even film a guest lecture for your class
Very interesting discussion. I would like you to bring the doctor again to discuss diet verses age. the older we get the easier we add weight
Wow! This is gold! Thank you, Jagero, for bringing us this very needed conversation.
Thanks. Hope you enjoyed it.
I can remember Dr Kibe saying that we need to take more boiled chicken than the fried one. Now I get the explanation. I really like the way the Doc here explains everything.

What are you saying!
What about cooking vegetables the way we do it here, do we kill the nutrients?

How come guys who fully utilize sugar like athletes are still diagnosed with diabetes?
That's a great question! Athletes are definitely sugar-burning machines, but there are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 is more about your body not producing enough insulin, kind of like a key not fitting the lock for sugar to enter your cells. Even with all that exercise, if you have Type 1, your body still needs help.

When all is said and done it is calories in and calories out and proteins and fats have more calories than carbohydrates
It is something to think about
It is, and it should also be considered that proteins also causes a spike of insulin
Imagine been doing it unconsciously and since my 20s to 50s my weight has never gone up by more than 5kgs
That's fascinating! Unconsciously healthy - that's a dream! Would love to hear more about your routine in your 20s. Did you just naturally gravitate towards healthy choices?
Sugar is addictive
I think the reason why Africans are also struggling with obesity is lack of movement , we use to go to school, work, church by foot but now we take bodaboda, we have our cars, ...no one want to move
Less movement can be a factor. But there are also other things to consider, like access to healthy and lifestyle food options.

May God bless and enlarge this young man.

We may have gotten a little carried away with Kiswahili. No worries, we'll try to keep things in plain English from here on out.
