Sonde comparison between Ridgid M40 - Qyteco - Spartan Sentinel - Vivax Vloc3-cam Locator

  • Here’s a little comparison video showing sonde strengths. The Ridgid was picked up strongly around 40’ away, the other 2 cameras were right around 20’ away. So the ridgid is about twice the strength. Price wise, the ridgid m40 is around $10k and the other 2 can be had for around $1600ish a piece. Depth wise, I usually don’t have any issues finding the 2 Chinese cameras. Most sewers I work on are around 8-12’ deep and my vivax vloc3-cam locator finds them no problem. The Ridgid one obviously gets picked up better though.

    Hey Tony. On an unrelated question, I just got a ViVax vLoc3 sonde locator like yours. I also have a Qyteco sewer camera. I’ve been playing with these toys but feel like I could use some tips/ideal settings for using this particular locator. I’d be grateful for any advice you can share

      So I’ve never had any training or anything, I just bought it and figured it out haha. But all I do is first I aim the locator up in the air and push the plus button to basically max out the gain. Then when I get close and it’s at 99.9 I push the minus button until it’s less than 99.9. Then once I get a good front and back locate then I’ll move side to side and watch the numbers for the highest number then I put a marker in the ground. Whether that’s right or not I don’t know but that’s how I’ve been doing it and I’ve had my excavator guy I recommend dig many of them up and it’s been dead on every time so I must be doing something right haha

    Thanks for a helpful video. how do you think the Ridgid micro or mini would do with the sonde ? Thanks again

      I wish I had the answer to that. But unfortunately I don’t have the micro or mini. I do however have the nano. I’m thinking about making another video like this with the nano and my huge uemsi camera

    Hey mate, I’m from Australia and love you’re comparison videos.
    We all use the rigid scout locator over here, just wondering how the rigid scout locator holds up against that metro tech locator shown in the video

    i have a forbest 3388 red reel camera ,, and i got the gen eye digital locator also .the sonde in this camera i good but i noticed have hard time when locating on abs pipe ,, idk if is the locator or the sonde range too weak ,but the locator start giving me wrong directions or picking up signals or points from every direction ,, or there are many interference ,, any idea if i might need a better sonde ,,, i was thinking of getting a ridgid sonde and put it on this camera since the camera quality is good ,,

    • @terjavec
      @terjavec  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t have either of those but I’d assume it’s the sonde in the camera is weak. All of my cheaper cameras have weak sondes compared to my better cameras. I wish they would put better sondes in there cuz that’s the only reason I still keep ridgid and other cameras in my van

    Any idea if it is possible to use a different camera head with a better locator on the QYTeco system ?

    • @terjavec
      @terjavec  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was told that the sonde has improved since i got my original 21mm head but from the little test I did, it really didn’t seem to make a difference. When I was doing some testing for them, I told them they should try and improve the sonde but they’re kind of limited with the size of the head. I think they should put it in the spring like many other companies do and then make it as big and powerful as possible

    BTW does anyone know if it is possible to increase the font size for the feet/meter counter displayed on the QYTeco camera screen? By default the font size it's very small and hard to read when you are working outside in the middle of Summer

    • @terjavec
      @terjavec  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No to my knowledge. That was one of my complaints to them. Almost impossible to see if you’re watching the playback on a phone. Also i told them they should have the video saved as something other than .avi. iPhones don’t recognize .avi so you have to convert it to .mp4 or something to view it
