It's even worse than that, the army developed all the digital uniforms, in multiple color patterns to include the woodland and desert marpat, but because the USMC issued and used them first, the leadership at the time didn't want to use those, because they wanted each branch to be distinct, which is stupid when it comes to combat camouflage, where the goal is to blend in, not stick out. That's why all the branches had different color patterns of the digital camo, because the "big brains" at the top felt it was more important for each branch to look different... In a combat environment...

Let me shine some experience on yall. During daylight hours on asphalt, concrete and sand a formation of soldiers is more or less an obscure blob at a distance of a few hundred meters. I've seen it.
During night time on asphalt, concrete, and sand, especially with moonlight, a formation of soldiers is damn near unnoticeable if you are not using night optics. The pixelated pattern is to make vehicle optics less effective at an approximate range of 500 meters.
Obviously if you are next to a brick building or within a LOS of 200 meters camouflage patterns dont work without concealment. I appreciated the pattern for its purpose but the idea of "universal" is just about impossible for all patterns.
