"Tore Down" 5/11/1972. Savoy Limerick. First gig with Rod de`Ath RTE homage in Rory's 60th anniversary. Special thanks to BrenWhyte for his posting of the complete show. / brenwhyte
The great City of Limerick was never the same since Rory played this here, The fisher way out on the deep blue stop fishing and returned to port, tied up their boats, went home to wash and put on their best jeans and shirts and brought their wifes and girlfriends down to the savoy so they could meet and greet Rory and his boys to their town, Rory rocked this place so much that after the building had to have its foundation underpinned and re-supported. This explains the power Rory Gallagher
Saw him 2 days later in the Regina cinema in Waterford......he changed my life in terms of music....Rory our national treasure 🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️slán go foil a buacháill.
awwwww...sad end. I got to meet this great when they rolled into Boise Id. He was opening for Rush during their "Signals" tour. I had a backstage pass and was there from 2pm until end. Got to greet him and the band like I said, he gave my son a coke! R I P Rory we love U!
If you're into electric blues, you just can't past the fact that Rory was simply the best that ever was. He really makes everyone else look and sound boring. That's just the way I see it.
His guitar solo ideas is endless you can tell his creativity was a way level up than many so called legendary guitarists you can tell when they are beginning to run out ideas on stage with recycled solo but this genius just went on and on and never bored you with the same licks
Got one of Rod’s drum sticks from Feb. 1976. Rory played 4 shows over 2 nights at the Bottom Line in NYC. I sat 3 feet from Rory’s mic. At the end of the first night, I stayed behind while the stage hands were cleaning up . I saw the broken drum stick and asked if I could have it. The guy just handed me the 2 pieces.
Every time I get drawn to watch yet again another performance I go to more than several more sometimes ending after 3 or 4 hours. Very addicting and just very real...his love for the music. Love him.
Pretty sure this was the first time live with Rod on the skins. What a start up super group. Good luck finding something else remotely comparable. EVER.
Rory got me into music when I saw him on the Old Grey Whistle Test back in 74. I was just 6. Brilliant. The only guy who is more talented than Jimmy Page in my opinion
Fantastic,I was at the gig two nights before in the Regina cinema in Waterford............changed my life. Sla’n go foil Rory a buachaill ta tu un far. Emmet
The Boogie Woogie Man. The man from Company B & R.. A man blessed with immense talent. A man of true grit and great kindness, His like was never seen before and possibly will never will be seen again. The one and only, the master, the very brilliant Rory Gallagher. He had the power to lift the roof of a building during his concerts. He could shadow play the very best players off the stage
James, hello again, Rory's cousin. You, sir, have a very great & active imagination to say the least. I ran across your commentary about the poor chap & his "rags to riches" event after listening to & experiencing Rory's talents. You definitely are also a talented wordsmith . Great video of the great man in his younger days and sounding awesome as always. From Mississippi with my thanks.
Thanks to Joe Bonamassa, for bringing a spotlight on this video thru his "monday night blues" link. Rory was awesome, and I know Joe worships him as much as we do !
I had the pleasure of knowing Rod and Gerry way back when they played the Bridge house Canning town London E16 ,lovely guys, and still miss Rory so much RIP Rory !
You've just witnessed the absolute daddy of electric blues. Rory played with passion, intensity, and conviction as a matter of cause. The new pretenders need to study this footage, take heed, and bow before a real artist.
@Seven Wonders of Ireland Rod did a great job backing Rory. I don't think Rory ever played the same song the exact same twice. He was always experimenting. A real master, he was!
Brings back memories!! And then suddenly round about 72 we all had to SIT down in concerts.Could never understand that....how could one hang loose with all that rockin going on. Still cant understand it really.
Calling heaven/ is Rory there? yeah,. hold on.... Rory/ hello. hey Rory you checking out how much we love your music many years later? Rory/ yeah,...just checking out TH-cam myself,... freaky. WELOVEYOURORY.
Hi,,Great video..I saw Rory over 10 times..even met him in 72...and this vid comes closer than most what he was like in those days..like the intro when he lets his guitar ring open ..he had a real magic to him.. Thanks Dave
@@moemulkey2264 Hi Moe I agree.my.only regret..the band was loading the gear into a van and station wagon..Rory gave me + buddy a beer and his guitar case was against his leg..He would have let me hold it .if I had thoght of it...Dave
i like how you can tell rory actually wore his guitar down by these vids because the later you go the more beat up it is, he didnt try it it happend and thats cooler than anything the custom shop can offer
Guy Incognito ........I liked his work with Cream but then things went downhill (or commercial). I lost all respect for Clapton after he made truckloads of money off a song about his deceased child! (Tears in Heaven). I only mentioned him as he also performed this. Rory on the other hand, continues to delight.
Linda Jones can not stand Clapton! guy got sour whenever some one better came along (especially the Hendrix thing haha) the man believed he was god and yet there were tons of players 50x's better than he was. Iommi was (and is) a better blues player than he was!
He was quite reluctant to release Tears in Heaven, but a close friend, I believe, convinced him. I personally prefer the Clapton version, but to each his own, I guess.
in all objectivity, Gallagher was the MUCH better song writer compared to Clapton. And his style was also much more richer. Clapton was the so called god for the (mainstream bluesrock) masses but he could only dream about writing songs like "a million miles away" or many others, Rory has written. I think Clapton is a nice guy, but definitely one of the most overrated guitar players (and especially composers) of all time. Let's be honest. Clapton was best as a cover artist. His own songs (with a few exceptions, of course) don't have that much value...at least not for me.
@promarko Yes, 5 songs from this performance in Limerick are in a 'Music Maker' video included on the Irish Tour '74 DVD. Also included on the DVD is an extended, grooving 'Back in your Town' with mass audience participation from the '74 Japan tour.
top class, this was rod de ath's first gig with rory, lou martin joined a few weeks later? he and rod were in a band toghter and shared aflat with gerry mc avoy thats how they all met
He had talent in spades! His energy level,in all his live performances were out of this world!Miss this legendary guitarist!
He was the greatest guitarist bar none
I could cry. I have never seen this. Rory, darlin... the absolute best. 🌹Thanks for posting this.
Dude was a straight up monster on stage.
Damn!
A force of nature !
A shy soft spoken Irish man a humane hurrecain ON stage miss you Rory SLEEP EASY Rory MARGO 👍❤❤❤💋💞🍀🇨🇮
You got it right. He was kind, shy, giving, never full of himself. A beautiful Son of Ireland. The BEST. 🙏🌹🇮🇪🦅💓🦋🌻
And what a fuckin amazing musician he was. Always missed and never forgotten. R.I.P Rory Gallagher

The very best ever. Besides the original bluesmen
..... Rory was a Prince of Ireland. A treasure o the Mother country.
Legend guitarist ❤️🙏🎶🎼🎵🎸🍀✌️👌🍂
The world is such a better place with his music. WE MISS YOU MAN!!! R.I.P.
Rod de'Ath : my favourite Gallagher's era. Fantastic drummer. Awesome drummer.
OMG. This guy was an absolute beast.
No, Rory was just a shy Paddy that loved music.
Jack Hammer ....well said brother....🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪
He was genius.

Most rockers say they can play the blues but really they can't, at least for long. Rory knew how. He had a clue.
Jack Empson he was the clue
What powerful trio !!!
Love Rory and these 3 guys were the best together!
If you're into electric blues, you just can't past the fact that Rory was simply the best that ever was. He really makes everyone else look and sound boring. That's just the way I see it.
Absolutely agreed!!!!
Have you ever seen Memphis Lightning play a tennis racket guitar?
❤ guitare Heroes
Rory.... and Stevie... and Clapton in his prime.
@@alejandroangeles8587 the thing Clapton didn't have & SRV, Jimi & Rory all had was a lot of passion , you can really hear it
I had privilege of seeing Taste at their farewell concert in the Ulster Hall, Belfast. Rory always gave 110% in every gig. A true musician
ROD WAS ONE HELL OF A DRUMMER MAY HE R I P ☘

Met ace from kiss one Tuesday night in a bar in Chelsea New York, we spoke of rory , he was blown away by him when he toured America
Saw him play a club date. Fantastic.
The late great Rod De'ath on drums , Rod if your watching from above , mate you influenced me tons , and i still got one of your sticks from 1978 !

Just natural GENIUS!
Rory we all miss you !
We are lucky to have this performance captured on film, Rory at his absolutely breathtaking best!!!
Every time I get drawn to watch yet again another performance I go to more than several more sometimes ending after 3 or 4 hours. Very addicting and just very real...his love for the music. Love him.
I JUST LOVE RORY xxx all said Margot
I agree .. he was a genius .. passion like few others .. many great guitarists who can’t sing and play ✊🏼
Steve Kutz one man show with the back up for help
I'm the same Cynthia, I could listen to Rory all day
Decent video quality biblical performance 💚

Rory positively vibrated ... R.I.P. brother ... there's a lot of folks who miss you.
This changes everything on how I see Eric. This is way more my style.
Truly one of the greatest
Ahhh! Rory you were a gifted gentleman! You don't miss the water till the well runs dry! R.I.p. Man!
My favorite version of this song. Rory rocks the hell out this.

Listening to this is making my New Year's Eve!
best version ever, love Rory! He is so rocking it out!
Native Marylander here. 1600s and all the waves since. Fully recognize Rory as a fellow traveller. Two continents, one cloth ;-)
So raw compared to other artists versions. Love it. Took Freddie King's great song and made it pure Rory.
I know it’s all about Rory, but shout out to Gerry and Rod for being so tight.

Beautifully said
This is one of my favourite rory performances, maybe be my all time favourite
amazing how Americans never gave him a glance, I didn't even know about Rory until the 90s after his death. he is one of my top 5 blues rock players
He played an awful lot of gigs in the states, but would it be fair to say that it was word of mouth rather than promoting.
100% rock and roll Straight- no chaser
I have seen Eric Clapton version but Gary version made me start jumping from my seat to prove I am alive n kicking
hell of a Trio
Rory Gallagher Guitar/Vocal
Gerry McAvoy Bass-Line
Rod de'Ath Drum
***** from 1978-1981 Ted McKenna performed with Rory Gallagher also
you can tell he is taking his cue from Gerry

I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE!!!
Some folk prefer EC, but for my money, it's Rory all the way. Some great versions of this number around but it's Rory who has the fire in his belly.
