Not as good as Alvin Lee/ Ten Years After

You will get disputes, like the Alvin Lee fan, [who was great], Gallagher belongs in any dicussion about that. Rory stayed emotionally connected to his music all the way to his death. Others did not. Some, like Jeff Beck went on tremendous cerebral journeys with their music and it was marvelous.
But Rory was extraspecial. Sorry I never saw him live. Here he embodies Angus Young, Chuck Berry, Peter Townsend, Hendrix and all of rock.

Understand! Saw him and his band in Bremen about the same time. Was there with a friend, a professionell guitarist. After a couple of songs he said, he had to go. I wondered how that was possible and he explained me, he had seen and heard so many things he could not understand, he had to go to the rehearsal room to try to find out, what Rory had done with his instrument. Lucky me am no guitarist - stayed until the end, impressed as never.

I'm in tears everytime I listen Roy Gallagher and this song especially, I don't know why, probably because he's still one of the greatest guitarist of all time, and surely because he reminds me my dad who offer to discover Photo Finish in 1978, I was only 11 years old. (love u dad, I miss you)

Love this video…. I’ve heard of Rory but it wasn’t til a few years ago I really listened to his stuff. Regardless of his phenomenal playing he’s one of those guys who you gotta see live. I get goose bumps from the sheer energy he brings. Blue jeans, a flannel, a beat up 61 strat was all the man needed to electrify a house of 200 or 20,000
He may never have topped the charts or made millions but this rock and roll purist is reassurance that rock and roll will indeed never die. Besides who can say “thanks but Im good” when offered a job as a Rolling Stone”….Fu@in Legend!!

    • @bozsomething2697

ok, hotshot - playing with one of the best guitarists in the world (which I agree with), doesn't say anything about the bassist - only that he was adequate, nothing more - enough backing for Rory, doesn't mean that 3 note Gerry was any good beyond the basics.
Instead of exchanging insults with me, perhaps you could learn something - try these links and see Rory playing with someone who can actually play a bass - and fretless, at that.
      th-cam.com/video/DXk--eL5-kQ/w-d-xo.html - th-cam.com/video/kX4s49NF-vk/w-d-xo.html - th-cam.com/video/7DVYA6hTRbg/w-d-xo.html
If you don't appreciate that, then there's no hope - it's totally out of 3 note Gerry's league.
      Hope you enjoy

I was 14 and had only seen Don McLean (American Pie etc) live before (solo, an excellent musician, but a different kettle of fish!). Seeing Rory that first time was an epiphany opening my eyes and ears to what live music could be like! 43 years later, my ears still haven't recovered.
