What It's Like Driving a 33 Year Old (OJ Style) Ford Bronco XLT!

  • 👋 The 4th generation off road focused Ford Bronco was definitely something to check out to compare with the all new 2021 model that was released earlier this year! I have a lot of seat time behind the wheel of the all new Ford Bronco and even attended the Bronco Offroadeo to really test out the capabilities of this new vehicle! So getting to check out this 1988 XLT was a fun experience to see how the Bronco was 33 years ago compared to the latest retro looking modern Bronco! This model definitely shows it's age from the locking hubs on the front wheels for the 4wd system to the rear tailgate! However it did have some modern features like the power rear glass, power windows and AC! This was definitely more of a utility vehicle or offroader than a daily driver! You can see some resemblance with the new model compared to this, but they also offer completely different functions and features! The exterior of this Bronco was in really good shape and had a nice design to it! Chrome was very popular back then and you can see that theme throughout the exterior! The interior also had a nice design, very plain and simple compared to todays standards, but had everything you needed! All of the knobs definitely felt old, but everything worked well! The driving experience was completely different and the fact that this 5.8L V8 had so little power compared to today is pretty crazy to see! It drove great for the age, but of course nothing like the 2021 Ford Bronco! For the 1988 model, this had three different engine and transmission options depending on what you needed which was cool to see!

I remember these were popular during tailgating events. I'm amazed at how new this looks to be almost 34 years old! Based on my recollection, this is the oldest vehicle I've seen on this channel. Nothing like hitting rewind to check out classics! Would love to see more of these throwbacks if you'll be fortunate enough to find them.

yeah also you couldnt get a 4 speed auto behind the 5.8 or 351 until 90 when the e40d came out. the 302 and 300 had the aod option starting in 85. that limited badge as well was not from ford. you only had a xl xlt or eddie bauer trims.

I know it’s an old video… He’s explaining how to open a door and turn the lights on, are we so far in the future that people wouldn’t know how to do that themselves? You can tell he’s never driven an old Ford by how he awkwardly starts the thing.. no need to twist your whole arm starting that thing. Tilting the steering wheel would probably blow his mind. That truck needs a heater core judging how that windshield is barely fogging at the base. I’ve been in one of those when new, it’s a pretty basic vehicle to say the least. The novelty of daily driving that thing in 2023 would quickly wear off. At least it’s got power windows.
