The Sun Bowl - wood turning and power carving a bowl

- Welcome back! In this video we'll be wood turning a maple bowl and power carving with a dremel into a sun bowl. Originally I was just going for flames but the effect made it look rather more like a sun.
This maple blank had been drying for a good two years. I used kutzall carbide bits and diamond bits when fine shaping the pieces. Then followed by a ton of sanding shaping and making the flames flow. I wiped it down with 3 coats of danish oil for the finish.

Thanks! The dremeling wasn’t so bad. The sanding through the grits was rough. Especially making sure you get every spot.

I mean if it’s sanding my feet at the beach, then yea it’s the best! Lol. But yes, of course hands down the most important process! Can’t be making like Charlie Sheen leaving lines in the wood.

Looks sick! I could imagine this as a resin piece too, with oranges and yellows in the spaces!
That would look awesome! Wouldn’t be too hard to do. Just would take more time to work it out. Less sanding and shaping though. Just would be a routed out, cleaned up the edges and then cast.

Maaaaaaaaaaaan, if you only knew what I’ve been up to. Needless to say with all the yard work I’ve got 2 12” logs of privet and 38 walnut blanks 12-24”. I just need more storage 🤔
