  • Welcome back! I apologize for this little wood turning project to be a little behind on schedule. In this video I'll be turning red bud wood burl cast in alumilite amazing clear epoxy and eye candy mica powders.
    This one came out truly beautiful with the brown, tan, white and gold/yellow colors in the wood. The colors of mica powder blended very nicely with it as well.
    I gave it a coat of danish oil since I've found that it gives a better color than just using any kind of sanding paste. It was finished with Deft clear gloss lacquer, wet sanded and buffed for that high gloss finish. I did coat the inside with Alumilite quick coat, though I believe I will do that while still on the lathe next time for a more even coat.
    I wet sand to 2000 grit and then buff with a foam pad. I don't always include that part but I do have a video up on that process.
    Thanks for watching!

    those colors look great next to that wood man. the greens kinda remind me of rocks covered in moss. just makes the wood look even better.
    never heard of red bud before, but i dig it

      Thanks! Went with those colors to blend in with the colors of the wood. Red bud is a smaller bushy kinda of tree. Takes a lifetime to get big. Has heart shaped leaves. But beautiful stuff.

    Beautiful color combination, I didn’t expect it to turn out that way when you were pouring. The resin, wood grain and the entire piece is gorgeous! Those Eye Candy mica’s are great. I’ve used their Vibrant bronze on a few resin projects and it’s so rich in color. I would’ve loved to have seen it backlit.. I know it’s a vase and not a lamp😊 but.. I still would’ve loved to have seen it.🤩 Retired stained glass artisan here.. I guess some things are just ingrained and will never leave me.😂 Great job!

      Ohhhh trust me. I’ve thought about being able to do shower glasses!

      @@EppsCreations Love that idea! If you could make resin coated glass shower doors.. I think they’d sale like crazy! I’d imagine the safety aspect would require a good deal of R&D tho. I obviously don’t know this for sure but, if applied to tempered glass it seems like it would be an added strength and safety feature. Essentially glueing the ‘shattered’ pieces together on impact even more so. Maybe the research has already been done and you wouldn’t have to bare the cost. It’s definitely worth looking into. I loved to see you make one!

      @@funo6581 it would make them less breakable if anything. Just would have to be careful when cleaning not to use anything seriously abrasive.

    Glad you're back! Was that aluminum flashing you used as a form?

    • @EppsCreations
      @EppsCreations  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was. The epoxy doesn’t stick to it. Well comparably to it sticking to tuct tape. Wrap around and glue it down.

    Where do you acquire your burls? You do some amazing work with them.

    • @EppsCreations
      @EppsCreations  ปีที่แล้ว

      I get them here and there. Some I get from world wide burl on Instagram. But most of my stuff comes from taking a walk in the woods.

    Beautiful, how long did you wait after the danish oil before the abrasive paste?

    • @EppsCreations
      @EppsCreations  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only about 5 mins. I’ve found oiling it with danish oil really gives a deep lasting color than just using the paste. You remove excess when spinning high speeds wiping the paste off anyway.
