Here is a recommendation for the inevitable commentor's edition, Mad Max 2015, you kill the guy who helped you recover your first car, the black on black and you destroy the Magnum Opus, the car you meticulously spent time on building, customizing, and tuning to your own driving style, AND its implied you die at the end, but hey, you killed the guy you thought you killed earlier in the story.

Taking this concept to a different place is the ending of The Alliance Alive. An RPG where if you enter the final area you can never go back. Basically the final steps of the game continually lock you in for the finale which if, like me, you were underleveled, congratulations you've just irreversibly ruined your save file. Yes, quite literally, if you start the final boss fight underleveled you have completely ruined your save as there is no way to go back and grind since the game only allows one save per file with no way to revert back. It's seriously something else to see a game irreversibly prevent you from seeing the ending at all just because you were a little overconfident.
No Star Wars Force Unleashed? You either die in the good ending, only to return in 2 with no answer as to whether or not you're a clone or you become Palpatine's slave just after watching him slaughter your friends, at which point in DLC you go on you murder Obi-wan and then cut off Luke's hand and turn him to the dark side.
As the saying goes, "You either die a hero and then come back later as maybe or maybe not a clone or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain in some DLC missions."
Actually the outcome would have been no different as Joseph Seed wasn't the one responsible for the nukes. Listening to the radio broadcasts throughout the game makes that obvious.

I think the ending fits the whole theme of the game. Its based in america, the nuclear stronghold of the world. The cult has been preparing for the end of the world, and you play the whole game thinking they are ignorant, but they keep reminding you that bad stuff is happening in the world outside your control. Besides, happy cookie cutter endings are too common. Sometimes the world needs some nuclear hell fire
There's Take It Back! from Fallout 3 before the DLC, which basically means that you have to take a lethal dose of radiation to press a button. Y'know, because your completely-radiation-proof pals of either Charon or Fawkes couldn't handle that.
Basically the game decided to continue after he gets back to his family which should have been the end. Like seriously, every mission after is only given by Uncle, Abigail and Jack. Nothing new is really introduced so why even bother? So they could put in his death just to make you feel for him. In reality I think the better ending is right aftee he gets his family. Like after all he's been through he can finally have the life he wants. Instead it's "after all that we're gonna kill him"
OMG I hated Farcry5's ending so much. The last fight shouldn't have even been a thing. Him taking control of your followers out of nowhere was complete BS. I'm OK with the game not having a good ending, but not the way they did it. There should absolutely be a "just shoot him in the face" option for dealing with Seed at the end... and if they then want to drop the bombs and have you unable to enter a shelter because it's keyed to his DNA or whatever, so be it... at least give me the satisfaction of killing him before I die from radiation.
While I haven't played the original, I've played Red Dead Redemption 2, and it ends much happier, and you get to play as John. Although when Arthur dies, it's a sad day.
Far Cry 5, the one Far Cry game i played, and convinced me to never play another. The story is so shit from start to end, and New Dawn seems to double down on the shitty ending.

Depending on how you feel about emulators and such. I highly recommend that. At least then you can upscale the graphics so it won't be a blurry mess on an HD screen. It would be nice if Sony wasn't so anti-backward compatible.
Zack yeah I can run an emulator. And I use component wires so I always get upscaling on my ps2. I was just pointing out the fact that persona 3 fes has a price tag of around £89 which is fucking expensive for a ps2 game.

Bruce and Alfred went down to the Batcave before destroying the Manor. Creating an illusion of their death. And the phantom we see at the end can either be an effect of the fear toxin or Azrael, or any of the other members of the Bat family. Batman probably didn't end with Bruce Wayne.
"Sinking City": from horror to horror, it patiently and gently takes you to three different possible endings. 1. You kill yourself; 2. You walk away, the world ends, and everyone dies; 3. You free the Old One, the world ends, and everyone dies. Yeeee.
Don't forget Prince of Persia 2008, where (spoilers) . . . . after the companion heroically sacrifices herself to seal away the apocalypse, you just kind of... undo the seal, pick up your unconscious companion and stride off into the oncoming apocalypse for... some reason. It's like the ending of Last of Us, except if Ellie was a full grown adult who consented to the procedure with full knowledge of the consequence. And it directly triggers the apocalypse you just spent the whole game trying to seal away. The game doesn't even tell you to do this, it just gives you full control of the character during the credits and there's basically nothing else to do except this. I'm not even convinced you're supposed to do it, but it does trigger the rest of the end credits, so 🤷♀?
There is one game that I didn't see on that I really think should have been but wasn't and that is the ending of Dishonoredwhere Emily finally gets to become empress but you see her at the end of the game standing over what looks like corvo's headstone as if he died
Portal 2, anyone? You fling the lovable Wheatley and multiple other innocent cores into space, GLaDOS supposedly snuffs out the only humanity she had left in her cold robot body and Chell is thrown out of the facility into whatever the world will have become after the events of the Half-Life games. The only even remotely nice element of the game's ending is in the co-op DLC, where GLaDOS and the bots discover a bird's nest and she gets over the trauma caused by her time as a potato. Good for her, I guess? The entire thing just feels so bleak, and... final. You'd be hard-pressed to make a game that continues any of the characters' stories, meaning we'll probably never get a third main-series Portal game. If you need me, I'll be in the corner, mourning the Portal series and holding my stuffed Companion Cube...

No he escaped as Batman he had to kill Bruce Wayne off. He knew from the beginning that Batman was a symbol and hope for people so when his identity was finally revealed he made the knight fall protocol to “kill” himself off(Bruce Wayne) to protect everybody he knew personally I’m sure and just permanently put the mask back on. Just a theory but it would make the ending a lot better and more meaningful than just collecting a bunch of ridler trophies to watch Bruce blow himself up

Sorry, know this video is a year old but I just wanted to say: I read the Arkham Knight ending as faking their deaths in the explosion and going underground. Then, proceeding to use the fear toxin as a method of making it unclear if: Batman is still a live; there is a new Batman; or the city(mostly the criminals) is sort of haunted by the memory/ghost of Batman.

I completly disagree on Red dead redemption. The final mission is the perfect conclusion to the Game. John finally proves that he isn't just a selfish outlaw who cares for nobody except himself by giving his life for his family. That IS his redemption.
It's a befitting end for his character, at least if you play him the honorable way. There's a sick irony that Jack ends up falling down a dark path despite John's best effort; while not rosy, it's still poetic. The downside is that Jack is an unbearable twat.
In the epilogue of red dead redemption it was pretty good when jack did get his revenge for John after having a dual with Edgar Ross (the man who ordered John Marston's death) that was a pretty good conclusion to make up for Jack's "faults"
I don't understand what people find ambiguous or puzzling about the ending of Arkham Knight. Batman fakes his death in order to go underground and rebuild Batman from scratch full-time. With people thinking the Bat is gone, the criminals will once again fear the vigilante stalking them in the night like they once did. And he's using the fear toxin (common sense would tell us a less potent version) in order to sow dread and doubt into people. If people just reported seeing the plain ol' Bat of old, people would wise up. Not to mention, Batman has "gone underground" in more than one comic arc in the past, so it's really not a massive leap in logic.
Rpground what does that have to do with anything? He could have continued as Batman without faking his death but criminals will no longer fear him, so how was he going to be effective? The stunt was meant to re-instill fear in criminals, simple as that.

They know they're going to get away with their crime because the jail system is literally a revolving door. Batman puts them in, they walk out, rinse repeat. What good is "fear" if nothing gets done and the status quo is maintained? Batman does nothing to solve the actual problem, and considering how smart the comics make him out to be to "always have a plan". No matter what cosmic threat or some other shit is going on, he always outsmarts it...somehow. Then why hasn't he put two and two together and realized the problem isn't the crime itself but the corruption higher up in the city or the police just don't have the man power to deal with everything themselves? He's got the money, hire more police. Train them better, better fucking jails! No, he does none of this and only wants to beat up the bad guys for a thrill. To make them "scared". Meanwhile thousands, if not millions, of people die to the joker all the time. But as long as they're "scared", it's all ok? As long as justice is served by locking them up? Jail is mean't to make the criminals STOP being criminals. But that's not working due to how weak of a system Arkham has it and still Batman keeps bashing his head against a wall in hopes it will work. Have you ever heard the definition of insanity? Batman is not the hero he's made out to be. Batman is not the hero Arkham needs or deserves. He's as much of a problem as the criminals themselves. .
Rpground the point of the fear thing was to make them STOP being criminals. A giant bat chasing you around was definitely terrifying, and stopped a lot of crime. But it eventually became less scary, and Batman was just a glorified cop. So he took his chance and became a GHOST GIANT BAT THAT LEFT CRIMINALS SEVERELY TRAUMATIZED DUE TO FEAR GAS. I don’t know about you, but I think I’d be done with crime after that. But it’s worth noting he became Batman partially because of that revolving door jail thing. He isn’t the cause of it by any means, the corrupt/poor government is, but he’ll continue doing his damn best to stop the criminals.
Red dead ending is perfect. Of course I was sad when John died, but the unpredictability of that mission is what makes it so great. It starts off as just a normal mission at the ranch, when I first played it back when it came out I had no idea what was going to happen. Johns death hit me so hard, because it finally seemed like he’d be able to live a good life after all, only to be murdered by the men who used him to do their dirty work. The ending is perfect: Johns life ended just as he had lived it. Fighting. Avenging his death as jack in the Remember my Family mission was one of the most satisfying things in video game history. That whole game is just a masterpiece
Why is killing Michael the lesser evil? Trevor's the psycho that goes around killing and or torturing pretty much everyone he meets. Killing him would practically be a civil service.

I chose deathwish on GTA5. Afterwords I got all three characters to dress in tuxes for a night on the town. As Trevor I picked up Mike and Franklin, but Frankie had changed into sweatpants. So Trevor put a satchel charge on the car everybody got in and everybody died.
Yeah it's pretty much here for not having a playable epilogue. A lot of games don't. Games tend to end when they end. They just knew that a lot of people would want to keep playing so it puts you back to keep playing. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Michael abandoned everyone from the opening heist and took a deal with the FIB. He betrayed Trevor and Brad. Trevor was a shitty person but he mourned Michael and kept in touch with Brad in prison. That said, I chose Deathwish.

I actually can't remember which I chose - personally I felt less engaged with GTAV than previous games because of the multiple-protagonists thing - but I do know I immediately ruled out the Kill Michael option - yes, I take your point, but he at least had a hope of becoming a better person...
Instead of GTA5, you should have had GTA4 on the list. GTA5 Death wish let's all characters live, but this wasn't an option in 4. Either your girl dies, or your cousin. You HAD to pick (if you saved before the mission). As far as BotW, this is what happens with every Zelda game I've played. Once you beat Ganon/the final boss it plays the ending and that's that. The final save is always before the final boss.
The absolute worst part about that Red Dead final mission is that when John comes out of the barn you automatically go into Dead-Eye mode and can start picking off targets. It gives this illusion that maybe, just maybe, you can make it out of this. Obviously, there's no way to kill all of them, which just makes it feel all that more heart wrenching.
Final Fantasy XV. Go to Altissia and meet Umbra. Go back in time and drive around with your bros forever. Never finish the game do not finish chapter 9. It’s a fun road trip. End of story.
I think the second time i play that i'll do just that. It was relaxing and fun till chapter 9, then it got dark and depressing. Those meals at camp made me hungry. Instead of playing chapter 9 i think i'll put together a ff 15 cookbook.

Devon Montoya XIII had the worst character arcs, especially 'cool girl' Lightning, who was literally just a mopey teenager. Also, play the multiplayer dlc Companions if the end to XV's main story bummed you out. It gets fixed.

I assumed that at the end of Arkham Knight, Bruce didn't die, and he was using scarecrows fear toxin to make himself spread fear among the criminals by essentially making himself a monster
John Diggle It's never stated explicitely, but that's pretty much it, i think. Batman killing himself (and Alfred, nonetheless) is completely out of character, so it's nsafe to assume he survives. And the hallucination-like scene at the end looks and sounds pretty much like the ones induced by Crane's fear toxin. So Bruce surviving and continuing the fight after some time using a modified version of Scarecrow's toxin to make criminals - who stopped being afraid of Batman after he was revealed to be Bruce Wayne, as implied by in-game dialogue) - fear him again is the most likely outcome.
John Diggle My theory is that Bruce faked his death and Azrael is the new Batman. This makes the most sense to me because of the side mission with him. Even if someone else is batman I still think that Bruce is alive because he would never let Alfred die. He let horrible people live so why would he let someone he loves die lol.

Knightfall is a reference (likely) to the Knightfall/Knightquest/KnightsEnd comics. During Knightfall, Bruce hands off the mantle of The Batman to Jean-Paul Valley (a.k.a. Azrael). It would be interesting to see if this followed a similar thread. Regardless of what actually happened, I am 100% sure that Bruce would not kill himself nor would he allow any harm to come to Alfred. The Batman, after all, is known to have contingency plans for EVERYTHING.

I didn't mind fallout 3 ending. I just don't understand why u can't have a robot or a super mutant so the final thing. Makes no sense. Plus I belive my radiation resistance was super high so i didn't have trouble doing it.
That nuke ending was not the "good ending". The good ending, is the one where you choose to not arrest Joseph Seed, thus meaning the cult never geats super violent. but then that means the only good ending is to not play the game. there's a problem with that.

He didn't own the nukes (we know because there are radio broadcasts that say there is nuclear tension with North Korea and China, not sure why they aimed at least 2 at a backwater Montana coutry tho) so yeah he was right, but he was still wrong in his methods for preparing in my opinion

I’d imagine a game where you commit horrible war crimes, learn that your goal for the entire game was both a lie and a failure, while said game is calling you and others gamers out for their desire for heroic escapism and forcing them into an existential crisis, only to then give them four downer endings, each one being all equally downers in their own unique way is perfect for this list, would be perfect for this list.

Imo the Arkham Knight ending was pretty obvious when I saw it. By the end of Arkham Knight two many people know of Batmans real identity witch could jeopardise his mission to get Gotham rid of crime. So he ends up faking his own death to throw the criminals and other people of his trail by making them think he's actually dead and there's a new hero in town even though that hero is still Batman who has even become more agressive towards the criminals since he's got them cornered now

Fable 2... I mean... I have to choose between my pet dog, and the millions killed by the bad guy. It is better to just opt to not do the final mission in Fable 2.
I always chosed the dog since its more rewarding. The reward for saving everyone is just a statue, so why tf should I care about saving them? And you can easily earn money in the game, even when you're not playing. Making the third option a bit of a waste
What? Arkham Knight doesnt have a sad ending, the explosion is the Knightfall protocol, it is just to make everyone think Batman/Bruce is dead, but him and Alfred are completely safe and finally get to live their lives in peace.
Vaas Montenegro yeah I thought it was a given that Bruce had to fake his and Alfred’s deaths, due to the fact everyone knows who he is, or risk everyone he knows being put in danger, and then either retires, and leaves another batman in charge, like a batman beyond scenario, or keeps the mantle himself, using scarecrows fear gas to appear as a demon or something
My friend swears that Final Fantasy XV's final mission never happened and that the alternate ending with Episode Ignis is what actually happened and you can't tell her otherwise.
My actual, canonical ending for Arkham Knight was that some of the Riddler trophies bugged so I either couldn't collect them or it didn't register that I had, so I couldn't beat the Riddler, so I couldn't activate any variation of the Knightfall Protocol at all. Far Cry 5...man, I was enjoying that game so much, and then the ending just ruined it. It's so badly done. And I'm saying this as someone who finds the Mass Effect ending flawed at worst.

All the other games (that I've played) did the same thing. FarCry 2 had two endings in which you die, and FarCry 4's only good ending is the one where you sit on your butt at the table until Pagan comes back, otherwise you have your choice of two endings where you find out you've effectively been aiding the enemy the whole time.
Frankly I was disappointed with not only the “boss battles” in FC5, but New Dawn was pretty crappy. The aesthetic was nice, but that’s about it, not really challenging whatsoever.

Glad to see more people are still salty over the ending of ME3 like I am. I just wanted a happy ending, that gave closure to my OTP of Liara and FemShep. Not a nod and a smirk and then nothing til Andromeda. Bioware should have some how did ME4, and I could almost guarantee it would have sold better than Andromeda.

How could we leave out No Man's Sky's final "mission" to discover the center of the universe? You get the treat of finding out that the loading screen for the game is literally the beginning of the game as well as the end because you effectively get jettisoned out into the back end of the farthest end of the universe to start all over again.

Good list but Batman Arkham knights nightfall protocol doesn’t kill Bruce or Alfred. They just self destruct the manor and retire Batman. Bruce and Alfred go into hiding and that’s the end. The part with the hallucination is to symbolize that there will always be a Batman to stop the criminals, not Bruce but the next one to carry the mantle.
Knightfall wasn't azrael's batman? As far as I know it's prettyuch what happened after bane broke his back in the comics (minus the manor blowing up). Azrael takes the mantle then he gets super violent so batman has to come back and take the title back.
You put the wrong Zelda game on the list. Breath of the Wild has a good ending - Ganon is destroyed, Link and Zelda are living happily, all is sunshine and roses. It lets you keep playing from before you win, but that is the ending. Now, let's look at Link's Awakening, shall we? Throughout the game, you find cryptic statues telling you that the Wind Fish is dreaming, and all you see is scene on a sleeper's eye. The Nightmares you defeat are more specific - this is their world. If you wake the Wind Fish, their world ends. They're just trying to stay alive. Link, being an unfeeling sort of chap, kills the Nightmares, wakes up the Wind Fish, and your reward is getting to see Koholint and all the people you've met during your adventure fade away like a forgotten dream, and you're left floating on a destroyed raft in the middle of the ocean. Great. If you've managed to get the good ending, there's an implication that the girl you might have fallen in love with has been spared disappearing for good by turning into a seagull. Seriously, don't wake the Wind Fish. Just settle down happily on Koholint with Marin. What's so good about Hyrule anyway?

What we did get is a major character arc for Midna which makes it worth it.

Huh? They've all had definitive endings. Cutscene, credits, maybe an extra scene at the end. There's no post game in any of them (not counting second quests), and yeah, BotW is no different. BotW just puts you back to before the final encounter for you instead of making you reload your last save if you want to go back and do anything you missed.

Taking this concept to a different place is the ending of The Alliance Alive. An RPG where if you enter the final area you can never go back. Basically the final steps of the game continually lock you in for the finale which if, like me, you were underleveled, congratulations you've just irreversibly ruined your save file.
Yes, quite literally, if you start the final boss fight underleveled you have completely ruined your save as there is no way to go back and grind since the game only allows one save per file with no way to revert back. It's seriously something else to see a game irreversibly prevent you from seeing the ending at all just because you were a little overconfident.
No Star Wars Force Unleashed? You either die in the good ending, only to return in 2 with no answer as to whether or not you're a clone or you become Palpatine's slave just after watching him slaughter your friends, at which point in DLC you go on you murder Obi-wan and then cut off Luke's hand and turn him to the dark side.
As the saying goes, "You either die a hero and then come back later as maybe or maybe not a clone or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain in some DLC missions."

I think the ending fits the whole theme of the game. Its based in america, the nuclear stronghold of the world. The cult has been preparing for the end of the world, and you play the whole game thinking they are ignorant, but they keep reminding you that bad stuff is happening in the world outside your control. Besides, happy cookie cutter endings are too common. Sometimes the world needs some nuclear hell fire
There's Take It Back! from Fallout 3 before the DLC, which basically means that you have to take a lethal dose of radiation to press a button. Y'know, because your completely-radiation-proof pals of either Charon or Fawkes couldn't handle that.

Like after all he's been through he can finally have the life he wants. Instead it's "after all that we're gonna kill him"

OMG I hated Farcry5's ending so much. The last fight shouldn't have even been a thing. Him taking control of your followers out of nowhere was complete BS. I'm OK with the game not having a good ending, but not the way they did it. There should absolutely be a "just shoot him in the face" option for dealing with Seed at the end... and if they then want to drop the bombs and have you unable to enter a shelter because it's keyed to his DNA or whatever, so be it... at least give me the satisfaction of killing him before I die from radiation.

after the companion heroically sacrifices herself to seal away the apocalypse, you just kind of... undo the seal, pick up your unconscious companion and stride off into the oncoming apocalypse for... some reason.
It's like the ending of Last of Us, except if Ellie was a full grown adult who consented to the procedure with full knowledge of the consequence.
And it directly triggers the apocalypse you just spent the whole game trying to seal away.
The game doesn't even tell you to do this, it just gives you full control of the character during the credits and there's basically nothing else to do except this. I'm not even convinced you're supposed to do it, but it does trigger the rest of the end credits, so 🤷♀?

Portal 2, anyone? You fling the lovable Wheatley and multiple other innocent cores into space, GLaDOS supposedly snuffs out the only humanity she had left in her cold robot body and Chell is thrown out of the facility into whatever the world will have become after the events of the Half-Life games. The only even remotely nice element of the game's ending is in the co-op DLC, where GLaDOS and the bots discover a bird's nest and she gets over the trauma caused by her time as a potato. Good for her, I guess? The entire thing just feels so bleak, and... final. You'd be hard-pressed to make a game that continues any of the characters' stories, meaning we'll probably never get a third main-series Portal game. If you need me, I'll be in the corner, mourning the Portal series and holding my stuffed Companion Cube...

He knew from the beginning that Batman was a symbol and hope for people so when his identity was finally revealed he made the knight fall protocol to “kill” himself off(Bruce Wayne) to protect everybody he knew personally I’m sure and just permanently put the mask back on. Just a theory but it would make the ending a lot better and more meaningful than just collecting a bunch of ridler trophies to watch Bruce blow himself up

I read the Arkham Knight ending as faking their deaths in the explosion and going underground. Then, proceeding to use the fear toxin as a method of making it unclear if: Batman is still a live; there is a new Batman; or the city(mostly the criminals) is sort of haunted by the memory/ghost of Batman.

I completly disagree on Red dead redemption. The final mission is the perfect conclusion to the Game. John finally proves that he isn't just a selfish outlaw who cares for nobody except himself by giving his life for his family.

It's a befitting end for his character, at least if you play him the honorable way. There's a sick irony that Jack ends up falling down a dark path despite John's best effort; while not rosy, it's still poetic. The downside is that Jack is an unbearable twat.

In the epilogue of red dead redemption it was pretty good when jack did get his revenge for John after having a dual with Edgar Ross (the man who ordered John Marston's death) that was a pretty good conclusion to make up for Jack's "faults"
I don't understand what people find ambiguous or puzzling about the ending of Arkham Knight. Batman fakes his death in order to go underground and rebuild Batman from scratch full-time. With people thinking the Bat is gone, the criminals will once again fear the vigilante stalking them in the night like they once did. And he's using the fear toxin (common sense would tell us a less potent version) in order to sow dread and doubt into people. If people just reported seeing the plain ol' Bat of old, people would wise up. Not to mention, Batman has "gone underground" in more than one comic arc in the past, so it's really not a massive leap in logic.
So he's more concerned about his own image and self fulfillment of his sick fantasy then actually help people...

How does this scare anyone? Logically, it doesn't. Knowing there is the ever looming presence of something like that reduces crime overall. Not to mention the criminals KNOW damned well they get away with every crime they ever commit in Arkham.
How you ask? Well, look at it like this. A criminal steals 1 million dollars. Batman shows up, beats him up and it's off to jail with him. Good, right? Wrong. The criminals have been through the ropes so many times that they KNOW they're gonna get out soon enough. They know they're going to get away with their crime because the jail system is literally a revolving door. Batman puts them in, they walk out, rinse repeat.
What good is "fear" if nothing gets done and the status quo is maintained? Batman does nothing to solve the actual problem, and considering how smart the comics make him out to be to "always have a plan". No matter what cosmic threat or some other shit is going on, he always outsmarts it...somehow. Then why hasn't he put two and two together and realized the problem isn't the crime itself but the corruption higher up in the city or the police just don't have the man power to deal with everything themselves?
He's got the money, hire more police. Train them better, better fucking jails! No, he does none of this and only wants to beat up the bad guys for a thrill. To make them "scared". Meanwhile thousands, if not millions, of people die to the joker all the time. But as long as they're "scared", it's all ok? As long as justice is served by locking them up? Jail is mean't to make the criminals STOP being criminals. But that's not working due to how weak of a system Arkham has it and still Batman keeps bashing his head against a wall in hopes it will work. Have you ever heard the definition of insanity?

Rpground the point of the fear thing was to make them STOP being criminals. A giant bat chasing you around was definitely terrifying, and stopped a lot of crime. But it eventually became less scary, and Batman was just a glorified cop. So he took his chance and became a GHOST GIANT BAT THAT LEFT CRIMINALS SEVERELY TRAUMATIZED DUE TO FEAR GAS. I don’t know about you, but I think I’d be done with crime after that. But it’s worth noting he became Batman partially because of that revolving door jail thing. It wasn't worth completing every stupid challenge in the game for what seemed like the shortest ending ever.
Red dead ending is perfect. Of course I was sad when John died, but the unpredictability of that mission is what makes it so great. It starts off as just a normal mission at the ranch, when I first played it back when it came out I had no idea what was going to happen. Johns death hit me so hard, because it finally seemed like he’d be able to live a good life after all, only to be murdered by the men who used him to do their dirty work. The ending is perfect: Johns life ended just as he had lived it. Fighting.
Avenging his death as jack in the Remember my Family mission was one of the most satisfying things in video game history.

Yeah it's pretty much here for not having a playable epilogue. A lot of games don't. Games tend to end when they end. They just knew that a lot of people would want to keep playing so it puts you back to keep playing. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Instead of GTA5, you should have had GTA4 on the list. GTA5 Death wish let's all characters live, but this wasn't an option in 4. Either your girl dies, or your cousin. You HAD to pick (if you saved before the mission). As far as BotW, this is what happens with every Zelda game I've played. Once you beat Ganon/the final boss it plays the ending and that's that. The final save is always before the final boss.

The absolute worst part about that Red Dead final mission is that when John comes out of the barn you automatically go into Dead-Eye mode and can start picking off targets. It gives this illusion that maybe, just maybe, you can make it out of this. Obviously, there's no way to kill all of them, which just makes it feel all that more heart wrenching.

I assumed that at the end of Arkham Knight, Bruce didn't die, and he was using scarecrows fear toxin to make himself spread fear among the criminals by essentially making himself a monster
John Diggle It's never stated explicitely, but that's pretty much it, i think. Batman killing himself (and Alfred, nonetheless) is completely out of character, so it's nsafe to assume he survives. And the hallucination-like scene at the end looks and sounds pretty much like the ones induced by Crane's fear toxin. So Bruce surviving and continuing the fight after some time using a modified version of Scarecrow's toxin to make criminals - who stopped being afraid of Batman after he was revealed to be Bruce Wayne, as implied by in-game dialogue) - fear him again is the most likely outcome.
John Diggle My theory is that Bruce faked his death and Azrael is the new Batman. This makes the most sense to me because of the side mission with him. Even if someone else is batman I still think that Bruce is alive because he would never let Alfred die. He let horrible people live so why would he let someone he loves die lol.

Knightfall is a reference (likely) to the Knightfall/Knightquest/KnightsEnd comics. During Knightfall, Bruce hands off the mantle of The Batman to Jean-Paul Valley (a.k.a. Azrael). It would be interesting to see if this followed a similar thread.
Regardless of what actually happened, I am 100% sure that Bruce would not kill himself nor would he allow any harm to come to Alfred. The Batman, after all, is known to have contingency plans for EVERYTHING.

I didn't mind fallout 3 ending. I just don't understand why u can't have a robot or a super mutant so the final thing. Makes no sense. Plus I belive my radiation resistance was super high so i didn't have trouble doing it.
That nuke ending was not the "good ending". The good ending, is the one where you choose to not arrest Joseph Seed, thus meaning the cult never geats super violent. but then that means the only good ending is to not play the game. there's a problem with that.
theres speculation that the nuke ending is all a hallucination since you get a shitload of bliss spilled on you during the final battle

Imo the Arkham Knight ending was pretty obvious when I saw it. By the end of Arkham Knight two many people know of Batmans real identity witch could jeopardise his mission to get Gotham rid of crime. So he ends up faking his own death to throw the criminals and other people of his trail by making them think he's actually dead and there's a new hero in town even though that hero is still Batman who has even become more agressive towards the criminals since he's got them cornered now

My actual, canonical ending for Arkham Knight was that some of the Riddler trophies bugged so I either couldn't collect them or it didn't register that I had, so I couldn't beat the Riddler, so I couldn't activate any variation of the Knightfall Protocol at all.

That said, it's not like we didn't know in advance the ending would be a pisser. All the other games (that I've played) did the same thing. FarCry 2 had two endings in which you die, and FarCry 4's only good ending is the one where you sit on your butt at the table until Pagan comes back, otherwise you have your choice of two endings where you find out you've effectively been aiding the enemy the whole time.
But at least in the end of those games you felt like you actully accomplished something

Would it have really been so bad for Shepard to return (as promised) to his/her beloved Liara? Then creating a family, living a normal and mostly happy life. And then in an actual good new Mass Effect game, the new Character would meet old Shepard at some point and he or she would give the new main some helpfull advice or training? How could we leave out No Man's Sky's final "mission" to discover the center of the universe? You get the treat of finding out that the loading screen for the game is literally the beginning of the game as well as the end because you effectively get jettisoned out into the back end of the farthest end of the universe to start all over again.

Good list but Batman Arkham knights nightfall protocol doesn’t kill Bruce or Alfred. They just self destruct the manor and retire Batman. Bruce and Alfred go into hiding and that’s the end. The part with the hallucination is to symbolize that there will always be a Batman to stop the criminals, not Bruce but the next one to carry the mantle.

Knightfall wasn't azrael's batman? As far as I know it's prettyuch what happened after bane broke his back in the comics (minus the manor blowing up). Azrael takes the mantle then he gets super violent so batman has to come back and take the title back.

Throughout the game, you find cryptic statues telling you that the Wind Fish is dreaming, and all you see is scene on a sleeper's eye. The Nightmares you defeat are more specific - this is their world. If you wake the Wind Fish, their world ends. They're just trying to stay alive. Link, being an unfeeling sort of chap, kills the Nightmares, wakes up the Wind Fish, and your reward is getting to see Koholint and all the people you've met during your adventure fade away like a forgotten dream, and you're left floating on a destroyed raft in the middle of the ocean. Great. If you've managed to get the good ending, there's an implication that the girl you might have fallen in love with has been spared disappearing for good by turning into a seagull.
Seriously, don't wake the Wind Fish. Just settle down happily on Koholint with Marin. What's so good about Hyrule anyway?

What was wrong with that ending? Well I suppose it was a little bittersweet, but nothing like Link's Awakening.Yes yes, we all wanted Link and Midna to get together, but if you think about it could you really see that happening? What we did get is a major character arc for Midna which makes it worth it.
Showsni that is definitely fucked beyond belief, but it just feels unsatisfying after taking on Ganon in that epic fight, only to get like, what, two sentences?
Well... Hyrule does need its Master Sword back.
You really didn't see that BOTW ending coming? They ALWAYS do that. Zelda games never ACTUALLY end!
Huh? They've all had definitive endings. Cutscene, credits, maybe an extra scene at the end. There's no post game in any of them (not counting second quests), and yeah, BotW is no different. BotW just puts you back to before the final encounter for you instead of making you reload your last save if you want to go back and do anything you missed.
