that "sweep, sweep ,sweep" bit was the most adorable thing I've seen from the series thus far, overall I'd have to say I was thoroughly impressed with this episode, and personally I think this seasons been one of the much better ones in a long time

This is the opposite of that "Make this castle home~" episode, wherein Twilight's friends use the things they each consider appropriate to decorate a home that isn't theirs, which doesn't solve anything. Then they learn to use their knowledge gained from their friendship with Twilight to fix the problem, saying "What would Twilight want?"
In this episode, they all start out helping fix up Rarity's shop, and when she puts them in charge of things, they ask themselves, "What would Rarity want?" so their actions revolve around that, which doesn't solve anything. Then they learn that the reason behind Rarity putting them in charge is because of the knowledge she gained about them from their friendship, so they fix the problem by doing what they each consider appropriate instead.
    And I like that parallel.

I thought it was a great episode, matter of fact, my favourite of season 6 so far!
Many episodes suffer due to the 22 minute counter... this episode gave time for every character, told the story in several tenses and gave cameos all without feeling rushed! That, in of itself, is quite the achievement.
The humour was *golden!* I admit, I usually don't laugh out loud at the humour in Mlp... but when Pinkie's clone appeared at the cafe, I lost it! Not to mention Twilight's sweep remix, the spoon gloves, Pinkie's Rarity apparitions... Top notch comedy right here!
The characters were played out very well. The main 6 each had there moments in the spotlight, none of them felt like they were being left out. Plus we had a returning Coco Pommel and Vinyl Scratch, as well as the introduction of some new characters (the Pulp Fiction reference at the start as an example), this is the kind of quality I'd expect in a two-parter!
The show writers should be very pleased with what they've created here: this episode will easily be one of the most memorable of season 6. Plus, this provides a great quality introduction to new comers AND a whole lot of material for remixers (sweep sweep sweep) and fan fiction writers alike. ...5 stars!

    Notable cameos include:
Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta from Pulp Fiction
John Candy and Steven Martin from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
And that's as many as I could see that I could recognize. Maybe the three dancers are former Jem cast members.

Rarity's "NO SPOILERS" moment. Twilight's " Sweep, Sweep, Sweep" Remix AJ & Rainbow's fist bump DJ Pon3 Pinkie's clone cameo Fluttershy at the table with the raccons sooo many awesome moments. This is my favorite S6 episode thus far

This episode was so good. It makes me appreciate Rarity's character even more. Plus by the many wonderful jokes I'm this episode. Also points for Rarity taking a stab at how some of the music industry is nowadays. Also the Planes, Trains, and Automobiles we've been robbed scene was a nice touch.

The aesop of the episode seemed to me like an alternate version of "Castle Sweet Castle," where instead of trying to solve the problem on their own, getting it wrong, and wondering what Twilight would want, they wonder what Rarity would want and end up solving it on their own, getting it right. In fact, it kind of sounds like the opposite.

I think what makes this episode work so well is because it showcases what I think is MLP's strongest and best trait: its character-driven humor. What made at least half of the jokes work is laughing at the character who was making them, and the way everyone plays off each other is great. Easily the best episode of S6 so far, I think.
Regarding continuity, and also speaking about characterization... I particularly like how this episode feels like it learned from the events of Rarity Takes Manehattan other than being a rehash of a lesson already learned. I like your summary of the moral in particular, and it speaks to me very much as one half of a creative team behind a very large video game modding project. I often say that one of the reasons my partner and I work so well together is that we trust each other to make the right call and don't really impede on one another's territory unless we really feel like we need to, and it shows in our work.

I can honestly say that this episode was absolutely, 100%, not at all what I thought it was going to be, I never saw a thing coming in this episode, and, because of that, it was so much better than I thought it would be. I am so relieved that it did not go in the direction I thought it would.

This was another fantastic episode, the comedy was really top notch and the story concept of flashbacks and interviews was a really clever use of writing, each of the characters giving a commentary of the event that happened. And Twilight's sweep swap joke was funny and adorable ^^ I give it a 9/10 ^^

My favorite bits of humor was the mirror pool Pinkie in the background and Rainbow Dash's lines about "wait... are you writing that down?!" and her absolute lack of knowledge of fabric. Knowing my friends, I'm sure they will be pointing out how that's exactly like me. Lol

    • @booklover4330
      @booklover4330 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Sky Trail I love Rainbow's utter lack of knowledge about fashion. As long as it feels comfortable on me I don't care how I dress lol so can totally relate to Rainbow there. Love the mirror pool Pinkie as well as the evil and good Rarity shoulder guide things. (Shouldn't it be an evil Pinkie Pie and good Pinkie Pie shoulder ponies? But meh it's Pinkie; better not question it! Love the sweeping bit with Twilight as well very cute/adorkable. XD.

    • @skytrail5991
      @skytrail5991 8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Book Lover The angel/devil shoulder thing was hilarious too! I think they were shown as Rarity since Pinkie was trying to think about what Rarity would do. And I completely agree on the clothes part. I don't want to wear anything unless it's comfortable which means I definitely hate dressing up :P

    • @booklover4330
      @booklover4330 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Sky Trail I suppose that makes sense with the angel/devil shoulder thing. And yeah I rarely even wear makeup; the only time I wear it is like at a Wedding or when I went to my prom. And the only thing I do with my hair is either leave it down or put it in a ponytail and that's it. Takes me five/ten minutes to get dressed lol. So while I might not be able to understand fashion I still appreciate what Rarity likes to do for a living. XD.

That reviewer stallion was a reference to J. Jonah Jameson! Aww, how could I have missed that! Thanks for mentioning that Doc though. It shows that the MLP writers really know how to utilize background gags and shoutouts and that they have only gotten better at it over time. To all those who accuse them of such, there is NO pointless fan pandering in this show; every shoutout meets its mark without breaking the show :)

I've never done this in a middle of an episode of MLP before, ever.
After Pinkie's call back to the mirror pool, I was laughing for at least five minuets, then I replayed that part, to only see one of the clones in the background to only laugh so more. That was so perfect in everyway, timing, the gags, possibly my favourite moment in all this season so far to be honest, could be bias because I love pinkie pie so much, but it's so perfect.
I just hope for more episodes like this in the future, with hilarious moments, and characters having a reason to be there, than just fluff.

I really loved this episode, it gave the height at which all MLP episodes can live up to. Plus the interesting flashback-present type of episode was really neat. I loved this episode so much! It was a nice change to the series but it was still in tune with everything. I loved all the gags and jokes and can see a lot of elements of this one episode being turned into so pretty popular things in not just the Brony community but the entre internet as a whole. This had to be the best episode in season 6 yet! And that's quite the shocker, considering what the main plot of the story was about: Rarity opening a new boutique. Great review, DRWolf!

I went into the episode not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. The jump-cuts to interviews was a great choice since it kept each scene short and interesting while giving the viewers some fun side comedy. The storytelling method allowed for multiple character arcs to happen at the same time without bogging down the pace. I look forward to the next episode, but I still wonder, where was Spike and GlimGlam?

I loved the episode, and was happy for the continuity for the double Pinkies. The AJ and RD dissing Twilight before joining in themselves was also a treat , but for my absolute favorite scene had to have been Twilight going over how she organized the clothes (lesser the 'best work' sentence). There was something about that I just found overly adorable. It's nice seeing Twilight passionate and not just in overworked exhaustion.

The raccoons going after Fluttershy was the biggest surprise for me. What happened with all the others was somewhat predictable, but I won't recall animals getting violent with Fluttershy before, aside from Angel Bunny. Seeing them as waiters was also a surprise. Housekeepers or in-shop "gophers" seemed more likely.

I agree, the episode was extraordinarily good. It had all the characters, with all their endearing quirks, and not a single of them (!) was overdone to the point of being annoying. Damn, the episode had callbacks that were funny instead of making you want to crawl under your desk, that's a rare treat indeed. Three timelines, stitched together with perfect timing, each of them enjoyable on its own terms. It's an amalgamation of everything that was ever good about the series. And yes, I think it might make a great introductory episode, one of the best, even though plenty of the enjoyment is guaranteed to be lost on new audience.

I have seen reactions all across the map with this episode. Some love it, some hate it, some give it a solid "meh." It's fascinating to watch.
Personally, I thought the Pulp Fiction reference was both delightfully unexpected and entirely appropriate, given the nonlinear storytelling. Also, look carefully at Angel Rarity's halo. Unusually fluffy and yellow, because it's a haylo. You may now groan.

Nick Confalone is an excellent writer. He has a bit of experience. I can't say much for his work on Johnny Test. However some of his other works are pretty good. He and the writing staff with him did a fantastic job with this episode. I think this is the only episode where I actually laughed out loud and had a "feel good" moment at the end. Great review as always Dr. Wolf!

The other pinkie was either a changeling or the EqG one. She had the same logo on her hat that Bon Bon had on her secret agent suitcase in slice of life. On the other hand it may be related to the changeling in the s6 premiere flying over the crystal empire.

Definitely exceeded my expectations! A refreshing new episode that will stand our from all the rest. Everything about this episode was different in a refreshing way - new facial expressions, the talking head interview technique, new characters, returning characters, story structure, witty dialogue, hilarious comedic writing, the references, and surprising callbacks to previous seasons.
Is it just me or were the Mane 6′s personalities a little more extreme in this week’s episode?

I personally always thought Vinyl was either hearing impaired or mute. Probably not full out deaf, since we have seen her react when people talk to her when she isn't able to lip read, but with enough of a hearing issue that communication is a struggle for her. It could explain her love of techno, with its reliance on heavy amounts of bass and strong beat

My only real problem was that there was too much to look at, I kept scanning the background and getting distracted from the central action!
That said, I truly admire this show for gradually allowing the central characters to achieve their ambitions. So many other shows keep the cast in stasis, leaving their ambitions as nothing more than a trait, or have them gain their goals in one fell swoop. But not here.
Rainbow Dash has finally become a Wonderbolt, and it took years of work, one step after another. Rarity is gradually expanding her business, just as she said she would, and it's never easy or simple. And even after achieving advancement, it's not cut and dry! Twilight became a princess and is still coping with her new role! The characters are literally growing and changing at a realistic pace! That's nuance which the show deserves to be commended for.

Easily the best episode of the current series. Fast and dynamic; everything flowed really well despite there being little breathing room, and there's a lot of nice references and good reasons to re-watch to catch everything. Some really good humour too, especially Pinkie who can get overused and treated as a bit of a heavy-headed crutch when they're trying to force things to be funny.
It doesn't hurt that Rarity's fashion empire is one of the oldest and most consistent subplots, and it makes for a great overall storyline.

My own thoughts? This was a much better episode than I had been expecting, though most of the time I was marveling with a friend at all the detail work. I feel that this was a fantastic retelling of season 1.
The stand-out moment for me was Pinkie's shoulder demon/angel, because unlike the other times that MLP has done a one-off typical kids' show thing, this actually makes sense for the character and world. I'm looking at you, Fili Vanili and Flight to the Finish. This time I didn't think "if this were a better show...".

I thonk a GREAT aspect of this Episode that you totally glance over is personal note from the creators ;) Rarity Episode tend to have because she is the creative one, the designer who also is in business. In her first episode, where she makes dresses for everyone the mane six represent the different kind of custumors (the ones who think they know better, the ones being undecisive, or too vague or who get hung up on minor details etc) or in Cantalot Boutique the difficulty of staying an artist and still be in business.
After I watched the episode with my bf he wondered what that girl character with her stupid Ideas was for. I replied: Well, that is Hasbro! See You have a project and many people with their job to get the Project running, often under GREAT time pressure, you have to trust everyone knows what they are doing. But then you also have the guy who fundet that project or gives you the necessary mean to do them and they want to have a say in this too. This is Hasbro saying "wee need Priincesses, wee need more Pink, wee need parkly castles, wee need new forms of the ponies for toys. You don't wanna do that? Fine we end the series!" So you have to deal with that and not only overcome it but integrate it and use that to even better your series (if that is possible)
btw you mention the one Pinky clone but not the one in the disco? Seriously?

While this episode has a pony version of Jonah Jameson, what's even more funny is that the original 'My Little Pony' cartoon was co-produced by Marvel Productions, which was Marvel's animation arm during the 80's.

In the M L Larson thing on episode 100. Hasbro has stated that Vinyl Doesn't talk, ever. She lets her music talk for her.
    and
On Vinyl and Octavia. In Episode 100 they were acting more like Sisters then Lovers. Lovers don't divide a Living space, but Sister do.

what I always liked about MLP was that the Moral was no Extreme. it was always a do this, but don't do to much of this. it showed Booth sides. and I think this is the "counter" Episode to the one where they dig out the old Library tree and turn it into a beautiful Chandeliere in twilis castle. hope you know what I mean.
