Thank you, Joy. I have found it very helpful indeed to see how you transformed these two paintings from the first stage to what you have finished here - from a pretty picture to an interesting painting. And for your advice. Carolann
I really enjoy that you go into a good amount of detail and explanation in your videos so that even a novice such as myself can understand and get something out of it. You’re a great teacher. Thank you .
Love your work. I started with oils then acrylics. Always loved abstract but you have encouraged me to start but mostly your methods have pushed me of go for it! Thank you!
I am looking for different ways of starting an abstract just to see and experiment until I know which way best suit my personality. Thank you very much for your teaching.
There are very many great videos on youtube, and yet I subscribe to only a few that catch my eye. What I so enjoy about your videos, aside from your creativity, is your lovely voice, your gentle encouragement and inspiration. I love that you share your thought processes and wonderful tidbits of knowledge. I think you are a wonderful teacher, and love your wonderful little giggle. On the creative side I love your techniques and freedom! I love that you are not afraid to paint over something and recreate something else so beautiful. I love getting the sense of freedom from you. I am new to painting art, have crafted and worked on painting furniture for years and years. I started with watercolour and still love the challenge of that. Am just entering the world of acrylic as well and am excited by the possibilities of this medium. I think my inspiration comes from colour, it's beautiful and fascinating, how it interacts in nature and life.
Thanks so much Paula for your heart felt comments, Gosh I'm quite overwhelmed, you've made my day! It's a great feeling to receive such positive feedback and I'm so pleased you find the video helpful. I changed from watercolour to acrylics many years ago now and I remember it took me a while to get the hang of it as it's such a different way of working. Now I love that fact that you can use acrylics to get watercolour effects without worrying about making mistakes! You might find my free 'abstract mini course' also helpful as your learning about acrylics. I go a simple process which is very easy to follow the link is www.joyfaheyclasses.com/pl/2147652032. Thanks again and Happy Painting!
I have tried to paint abstractly, but the feel and application escapes me. Mostly I paint landscapes although I am edging toward more loose painting style. Love your video even though I can’t wrap my mind around how to achieve a truly lovely abstract painting like yours.
You are an awesome teacher and I wished I could sit and paint with you…that is how warm and welcoming you make me feel and others I am sure!! You said you live in Spain? How wonderful…Canada is very cold in the winter but we have no snow on the ground which is very unusual! It’s actually quite mild and green grass, very odd for this time of year! Anyway, your paintings make me feel warm with the soft colours, but mostly, so inspiring!!! Thank you again for sharing, you are very kind and sweet! 💌🎄🥗
I love your paintings and video's dear one. Definitely a limited palette and your free lessons Definitely helped me. I am newbie of painting, still learning. Thank you again beautiful soul x
Hi Joy I am new to acrylics and abstract painting. I have been really enjoying your videos, and you are a great inspiration for me. Can you do this kind of painting on watercolor paper?
Thank you so much I'm very pleased you're enjoying the videos. Yes you can use watercolour paper, cartridge paper, sketchbook paper and of course canvas. Enjoy 😊🖌️🎨
I enjoy watching you bringing the picure together. I learned a lot about products available like gels and mediums..also seeing the tools that you use, like the sponge and the nail brush ,,, love seeing it all. Thank you so much, You have taught me a lot about how to set up my little studio.
Lovely video and commentary Joy. I can see the atmospheric look you enjoy with Turners paintings in your own. Do you intend for your abstracts to be atmospheric landscapes as you develop them? Or is your work simply abstracted paint applications that aren’t meant to depict anything other than your feelings?
I am trying to achieve freedom of expression on my work some times I have the fear of cover color on top of color I want to feel free I live by the ocean and I want to be able todo painting on land and ocean abstract but I get lost I want focal point thank you
I have a question - "Why do all the abstract artists always start out with yellow ochre, I can't stand that color"? I loved it. I really enjoyed that one. Thank you Joy.
I can’t see the description below your painting with the information about the courses, would love to join in to someone of these, can you send some details?
I'll the description, apologies. However if you'd like to go to my website joyfaheyartist.com I'm just about to launch my new free course which you can sign up for. 😃🎨🖌️
Thank you Joy I found these videos so full of information and inspiration. I like that you used acrylics, I have done something similar with oil and cold wax but I think the acrylic could be more user friendly .
Thanks Christine! You can get so many different effects with acrylics using different mediums the possibilities are endless! Have fun experimenting! 😀!
Creating depth in your paintings needs lots of layers and textures and when you feel you've done enough then stop! You can always go back and see if it still feels good to you, and if not carry on. 😊🎨🖌️

To answer your question -Yellow ochre is a good base colour as it gives a warmth as a first layer! Happy you enjoyed the video, thanks 🙏😊
