Before you came back to this painting in the previous video, it seemed the child was between the other figures, one towering over the child and the other coming down to the child's level as though to check in or console, protect or to explain. Where it sits now, I see the shapes on the outer edges as perhaps two structures, the first figure is facing away from the others, looking towards his new home, life or future. The colours dominant in the mother and child are present in that future. The mother and child are together, but not necessarily connected. The mother faces away from the viewer (or the artist,) the child faces towards the audience. At the core of their structure (home or future) are the colours of all figures, though the edges echo the background. I hesitate to say so, but throughout, I couldn't decide whether the woman had black hair, or a bag over her head. Either way, She's facing/looking at or towards nothing. As you were painting, before you spoke of your situation, I assumed the child was you, rather than the woman. Though our lives often echo the past, as well, in one form or another. I'm grateful that art is working through you to heal as you create. What a beautiful journey. My life has gone down similar paths. Thank you for sharing your work.

I really enjoy abstraction, I feel that ‘abstract’ can mean many things but, abstract Impressionism is my favourite! I do feel intimidated sometimes by the thought that many people may not see anything in my painting and usually, no one but my family and friends will ever see it! Crazy how ingrained approval is in the psyche! I find it easier to see what is happening when I am watching someone else paint, that is something I struggle with! Love where yours is going!💕🇨🇦

Hi Joy, thank you for this video, please make more videos on abstract expressionism. I am an abstract expressionist @duval_fluid_art I work big, 200 x 150 cm, 120 x 150 cm. The great thing it's the release, the fun, the freedom of being myself and doing what I want. The struggle is the jumping into the unknown every time, accepting (not wanting a result asap), letting it develop, being in exploring mode. When I don't think about the end result, any result really, and I am full on in exploration mode great paintings flow right out of me. Maybe some tips on how to easily detach the thoughts, and step into exploration mode. Thank you. You are an amazing painter, and teacher. I love what you say, all so true.

I much prefer working big. I find working small so limiting. I like using my whole arm and body. In the uk summer, 3 generations of my family, aged 6 to 70, are coming together to do a huge Jackson pollock. My mission is to make art and crearivity accessible to as many ppl as rhe universe allows. Always like working outsoors.

I have been uninspired lately and am going through a period of feeling blocked. I watched the first and second part of your mini course this morning and enjoyed playing with my paints without any expectation of painting a masterpiece. I now feel very uplifted. your voice is very pleasant and calming, I immediately want to trust you. it’s as if i came to my granny to drink tea and talk about life. I want to learn how to paint abstract pictures to get away from the rules that were instilled in me at art school. when you are almost always sure what the result will be, for example, when you paint a still life. i am very afraid to start, because I don’t know what will happen in the end. i want my works to contain my thoughts, feelings, emotions, but it’s so scary to start… you strive for the ideal, beauty, for people around you to appreciate your work. i am a self-critical person, and it is very important to me that the result satisfies me. i hope i will succeed!

I found this session terrifically helpful in that it shows the reality of the to-and-fro process of painting….that we need to take our time and when it all goes somewhere unexpected..it’s not a bad thing…it’s on its way in a different direction that will, if we trust ourselves, go to a better place.
