This was believable in how OOP kept forgiving and trying to earn his awful wife's love no matter how many times she betrayed him. He kept forgiving and trying to earn his awful mother and even his awful father's love (despite his change of heart, he was still a terrible parent). And I even got the sense that when OOP and his brother were watching movies together that he would have forgiven his brother and tried to earn his love, too, should his brother only ask.
This is exactly how an emotionally abused person would act, frustrating as it is to read. Despite the "happy" ending, OOP would have had a much better life had he not given so many chances to the people who kept betraying him. Had he just left for college and built a new life without any of his family in it.

There is no harmless flirting. Giving attention to flirting and further indulging in it itself is morally wrong when you are in committed relationship. All of that she did weren't mistakes but choices she consciously made Knowing it was wrong.
