Thanks for this reaction, yes, Su-metal is a very precise singer. She very much takes the time to take in the song as it develops and build a narrative for herself what the song is, when she was a kid this could be many months, like over half a year. When she sings she tries to convey the ideas/emotions of her emmersion as much as possible. Basically all harsh vocals are uncredited studio recorded/playback live, possibly very much manipulated, a lot of the time they serve as a contrast to the young ladies vocals.
Great reaction/analysis, thanks! Yep, this can be considered a more "normal" song. We don't use much that word because nothing about them is "normal" (according to the cannons of metal, of course). 😁 Su-metal is incredible as a singer but she's also a total performer since she takes part in the choreo when performing live. And about this particular recording, keep in mind she was 15 at the time. This point makes this even more impressive in my opinion. It's been 10 years from that and she has matured in all the aspects and her technique has only improved over the years. "Road of Resistance" is a proper song to have a good listen to the band... as long you do an actual live performances Because the Kami Band does not appear on studio recordings. Yes, I know it's weird but they are session musicians (the best you han hire) and it's how they work, since all of then have their own projects besides BABYMETAL. The fact is that they consider the live performances as their core business and even referred to their studio work as "business cards". So they need a solid backing band when performing live. They added a second set of the Kami Band in 2019, so-called "western Kami Band", formed by American musicians. They are currently touring across Europe with BABYMETAL and they are equally impressive, specially (personal bias alert!) their drummer, Anthony Barone (big fan here!) Until next time!
I mentioned in my reaction that it's crazy how good they are for how you g they are, especially her. Haha some people didn't like that I said normal, but for Babymetal this is a more typical metal song than most of their others, according to some fans who have asked me to react to more of their songs. Thank you for confirming.

Excellent analysis. Usually singers use a lot of vibrato to cover up pitch, but Su never uses vibrato for that purpose. This may be the pride of a girl who loves to sing more than anyone else.
Su- was encouraged to sing this song in Japanese Enka style. While her recently changed, just turned 15 voice does not have the classic melodramatic wide vibrato used in Enka singing, she does let her voice ring freely with its wonderfully sweet, narrow, natural vibrato. And one can hear on the inhales just how tight her vocal chords still are from that recent change. This recording was a superb capture of a moment in time and I am grateful that the Producer chose to leave in those artifacts. Even though known for her loud clear belts sans vibrato, Su- has often used vibrato in her singing in that controlled, decorate the end of a phrase manner from this point forward. And from early on she has also been precise in holding notes for their proper length. I agree with Mr. kitkat, excellent analysis and I look forward to more.
@@kitkat6407 , yes, I concur, Su-'s core style was established early. And her expressive vocal vocabulary continues to get broader and richer. And I am grateful that she has explored other styles, as shown with Akatsuki (unfinished ver.) and more on the last 2 albums. But her core style really shines on the choruses during Monochrome - piano version, yes?
welcome into the world of BABYMETAL, where sights and sounds amaze, for your type of content, there are several songs that deserve analysis, I can think of 10 right off the top of my head that are not only top tier BM songs but top tier of songs of all time in any genre of music, for example "From Dusk Till Dawn" or "Kagerou" or "Shine" to name a few and btw these songs sound best LIVE.
I'm not sure what the point of analysing the vocal track of a 10 year old, heavily processed studio production is, that's ancient history and BM has evolved so much since then. It's a much loved song and captures a moment in BM time, but right now, the music world is in awe of Su's achingly beautiful acoustic version of Monochrome from the Japanese TH-cam channel, The First Take. It received over a million views in the first 24 hours.
I'm not gonna start from the end. I want to see the journey of the band and of Su. I will get there eventually. And yes, I have seen many reactors reacting to I (just the thumbnails for the record) so I'm excited to get there.
I think it's an interesting topic because these days she isn't really able to sing this song anymore. She has had to change her technique to hit the notes and it sounds a lot weaker. Also there was a period when she tried to still use the old technique even after her voice changed and was unable to hit the notes properly at all.
Good reaction and interesting analysis. I think I must have left a lengthy comment under your previous BABYMETAL reaction so YT didn't like it and erased it, so I'll keep this one a lot shorter. The breakdown uses the melody of a very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). No that was not Su-metal doing the pig squeals - for the most part any screamo or growls are uncredited, in live shows they will be on backing track with additional instruments like synth, piano, strings etc. 'Road of Resistance' is more of a "straight metal" song (it is speed/power metal), the guitar arrangements were by Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce and they played on the studio version. The Kami Band are the support for all live shows since March 2014 and for a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows from October 2012 until 2014 ... they do the live performances only, not the studio recordings.
Lots of interesting stuff here. That's pretty cool Herman Li and Sam Totman did the guitar parts. As a fan of Herman as a person and a guitarist I'm excited to see that one even more now. It makes sense that wouldnt be her but I wasn't sure if they had backing vocals for that.
@@mcflyjp Herman is a good guy and DragonForce were among the earliest supporters of BABYMETAL. Thanks for all of this info! They have great energy especially for their age. I feel like maybe I should start looking up the translation of the lyrics as that message is something I have loved on the channel (see my Fingers live reaction).
@McFly JP might I point you in the direction of another TH-cam channel (not mine haha), but there is an English professor who makes hour long videos breaking down possible translations and meanings in a lot of Babymetal songs, as well as how the choreography matches the story of the song and or the genre and region that a song mixes with metal..Andrew Hartley. If it weren't for him, a lot of the complexity of the meanings and messaging behind their music would have been lost on me and because of his videos I've become much more of a fan. They tackle some incredibly powerful content especially for their (starting) age. Papaya is s great example of one of those videos.
I think moving forward I will be analyzing the lyrics (obviously the English translation) and then after I release my videos go and watch his. Thanks for the tip!
I disagree: Megitsune, Iine and Doki Doki Morning should be seen the MV first! And Karate is an award winning MV! But I can agree that MOST of the songs are better live 😄
Nice reaction. If you want to focus on the musicians, I recommend "Rondo of Nightmare" with the "Mischiefs of Metal Gods" instrumental intro at Budokan: Black Night in 2014. It's one of Su's solo songs where Moa and Yui take a break off stage. The Kami Band that night were Takayoshi Ohmura (Guitar), Leda Cygnus (Guitar), BOH (Bass), Hideki Aoyama (Drums). Each of them get the spotlight. Here's a link: th-cam.com/video/tmMocP99QkQ/w-d-xo.html. A great video for focusing on vocals is Babymetal's recent performance of a piano version of Monochrome (off their new concept album The Other One (March 2023)) on The First Take: th-cam.com/video/h-hPGRSjgms/w-d-xo.html.

Funny you're calling the fanbase "wolf pack" which I am aware is a generic term. BM plays a bit with Japanese Shinto religion by calling their Metal deity "The Fox God" alluding to the Shinto kami (ghost / spirit / god) Inari whose avatar or personification is the fox. In one scene of this video you can see the red gates called torii of a famous Inari shrine. This is why a lot fans will say that you are "going down the fox hole" when you take a journey into the phenomenon that is BM. To Japanese fans: Please correct me if I misttated anything here. If so, sumimasen!

They're all good. They'll probably just keep doing whatever they want to do.

Now you know why we're called "kitsune" (fox) and women are affectionately "megitsune", and we all are called "The One" that's the official fandom name, no wolf here.🦊🤘
Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀
If you wanna know everything about BM you should watch "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery, is updated until early 2021 but at least is something to start the basics.
Next suggestion to keep appreciating SuMetal vocals:
- Akatsuki live at Budokan 2014, you can find this clip safe to react at "Babymetal Fans Ecuador".
Thanks for sharing your analysis and thought on this.
See you next time. 🦊🤘🔥
Edit: No, she's not the one doing the pig squeals, no one relevant is credited with the growls and this pig squeals.

ALWAYS choose the Live Versions! Same with Nightwish btw 😉
Yes I am learning that quickly. Lol
Both of these have been highly requested so they are definitely on the list.
I recommend Akatsuki for more straight up metal. Make sure it's not the piano only version (save that one for later).
Thanks for being clear. I’ll make sure to put that one on the list.
@@mcflyjp Some versions open with a piano, but I think the piano only version was once at the Legend S 1997 show. The same one as the Headbanger video.
You are mistaken.
All BABYMETAL is normal BABYMETAL, so all songs are normal songs 😁If I may say so, BABYMETAL looks normal is LIVE, so what everyone recommends to you is the most normal BABYMETAL 😁.
Every band it artist has a song it sounds that are a bit like their other stuff. Even artists that are built upon being different have some that are way out of the box.
Also reacted to Su metal "door to tomorrow" when he was 10 years old😄
Who?
so good reaction and analysis
Thank you so much!
Rondo of nightmare solos by the band at the beginning if you want to focus on the band
This is going to be the next one that I do!
👍 👍
Suggest always following up a BabyMetal MV with a LIVE version. I don’t think you will regret it.
Suggest Megitsune LIVE at Budokan 2021.
You really need to get into BabyMetal LIVE performance videos like Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where you can hear Suzuka LIVE and see the Kami Band up close.
My first Babymetal song was a live one. Wanted to hear their studio production. I am going to most likely do live performances here on out.
Rondo is probably next.
Understood, keep in mind that Rondo is a Suzuka solo performance.
@@rah2287 I'm all for it!
When you get a chance listen to Lisa Gurenge First Take (probably the best vocalist from Japan, it's the Demon slayer anime intro)
I just started watching Demon Slayer (it's actually my first anime, if you don't count DBZ or Pokemon). and that song is actually really sick.
@@mcflyjp the first take version is by the original artist, but it's the full song. And it's over piano. Just wait until you get to the end of entertainment district arc. Best fight animations of all time. Better then anime movie graphics
I learned the correct term for their fans is "The One"
definitely check out their newest single, metali ft tom morello
Already recorded. Should be out this week!
@@mcflyjp awesome! can't wait to hear what u have to say abt su's vocals on this one!
Awadama fever with Kami band intro
I think I'm going to do Rondo next
@@mcflyjp sweet!
so Im not the only one who is thinking of the OBS logo, good :D
The first thing I thought of haha
2nd time here for your nice reaction and good commentary on music.
And of course for Yui 3:39 the icon of babymetal.
For the next reaction can i get Black Babymetal - 4 no uta.? 😅
I think Rondo is next. 💪
"Normal Babymetal track" 🤣🤣🤣
I mean, there is nothing super obscure on this track besides the normal BabyMetal phenom taking place on this track. _That_ is what I meant by that. Obviously BabyMetal is not a _normal_ band.
@@mcflyjp The reference is to the fact that there ain't no such animal. They're all different...way way different, by intent.
You'll find out. Great analysis, you'll have more to play with if you continue the journey. 👍
Hey, bro! I've been super busy with work, but I'm now working on catching up on your vids.
Also, would you consider reacting to Dax and NF? I think you'd really enjoy To Be A Man, by Dax
Cheers!
I got two NF songs. I've been wanting to get into Dax too so eventually he'll be on the channel.
@@mcflyjp 🍻
I like metal, and love their energy, but just don’t click with female vocalists. Unless we’re talking Pat Benatar. 😊
Thanks for the analysis, I always learn something when I watch your videos.
Have you watched my Jinjer Reactions? Her screams sound like no other female vocalist I have heard. Give Jinjer a shot and let me know what you think.
Seems like you're still struggling with it -- they aren't looking for approval to try to make metal music or fit into one of the incessant number of subgenres that metal fans insist on classifying music by. They've been making music that a massive amount of people enjoy for nearly half their lives and have already achieved more than 99.999% of the groups of people that decide they want to try to make and perform music others.
They're all good. They'll probably just keep doing whatever they want to do.
Dude relax, never did I say they are performing for the sake of others. Quite the contrary in fact. They are their own genre.
Metal gatekeepers suck so I agree with you.
Is Megitsune a "normal" metal to you, sir?
No it is not. It is, however, out of the two songs I have watched from them, the closest to normal metal. Plus, plenty of people who are BabyMetal fans said that this one was as close to a normal song from them as it gets.
@@mcflyjp Interesting (fans describing Megitsune was as close to a normal song). To my ears, Karate would have been the song to suggest. I'm not instigating a war of words here with other fans. Perhaps I'm just tone deaf.
Thanks for replying
Music is subjective. So some may find certain songs more "normal" than others and others may disagree. I am uneducated as to BM music so I can just go by what I'm being told.
No worries at all.
Just a suggestion: perhaps you shouldn't call it a reaction video but video analysis, because you're not reacting nearly as much as you are parsing.
It's a reaction. Therefore it is a reaction videos. If you are going to be that particular then more than half of the reaction videos on the internet would not be reaction videos.
@@mcflyjp As you like. But when a "reaction" video is more than four times longer than the video itself, I find it very difficult to believe that fifteen minutes of the "reaction" video is "reaction". You do as you do.
@@Filboid2000 it’s a reaction and video analysis. It can be both.
Have you heard of Knox Hill, Cliff Beats? All are reaction channels that also analyze and breakdown music. Splitting hairs here.
BUT I will add “and analysis” to my titles just for you!
Since your hat probably cost as much as everything that I am wearing now, I won't be contributing...
Good for you. Definitely a choice. And this hat was a gift. But thanks for pretending you know everything about me 💕
