Su has a very powerful voice, enough to withstand the heavy music around her. It was this special trait that attracted their producer, Kobametal to her. “SHEis the one who will front my jpop metal fusion band”, he figured, being a metal head himself. The rest, as they say is history
_Sore!_ 🦊🤘🔥 Finally you're back with this great suggestion and so cool to hear you're gonna see them live, I'm gonna leave a setlist of songs they usually play at live concerts but if you wanna watch the full catalog I'm not complaining, even better for you. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and in summary is a beautiful female empowerment song full of Japanese elements and reference, is without a doubt a song they don't leave behind in any of their setlist at recent live concerts in this World Tour. None of the Kami Band are playing in this MV, they're hired actors. The arranger of this song, YuppeMetal, took inspiration from Memphis May Fire - The Sinner for the drum section. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥
This is the usual setlist at the latest live concerts, so you can get ready for them. 1. BABYMETAL DEATH 2. Megitsune 3. Iine! 4. Shanti Shanti Shanti 5. MAYA 6. METALIZM 7. BxMxC 8. Monochrome 9. Distortion 10. PA PA YA!! 11. Gimme Chocolate!! 12. Road of Resistance ENCORE 13. METAL KINGDOM 14. Ijime, Dame, Zettai They've been switching "METALIZM" with "Mirror Mirror", MAYA with "Believing" and "METAL KINGDOM" with "Divine Attack - Shingeki", so make sure to check it out all of them. NLMetal got some proshot clips with watermarked logo safe to react if you look for some of these.🦊🤘🔥
Great reaction, thanks! "Megitsune" was released on June 2013 so Suzuka was 15 while Yui and Moa were both 13 (almost 14) at the time. It's one of the most loved BABYMETAL songs and their most played live one (277 times and there are a lot of chances that they will play it on every concert and you will experience it live). The three strings instrument is called shamisen which means... 3 strings 😁 The breakdown is probably the most expected part on every concert. I guess you have already seen the live performance, but next time, keep an eye on Moa (and Momoko). 🤣 It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya aka Yuyoyuppe (the song's arranger) until Kobametal (Kei Kobayashi, their producer and the guy who came out with the whole idea) was 100% happy with the final result. And this is the reason why "Megitsune" is a masterpiece. The word "Megitsune" = "me"+"kitsune" which means female+fox so a vixen. Hence the "kitsune" masks everywhere. That breakdown hits hard and besides the pig squeals, the melody is from a Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulls out the "tanto" (short blade) she says: "Otome wa... nametara ikan zeyo" ("Maidens... shouldn't be underestimated") About the music video locations: - The stage where they are performing is called Nohgakudo at Asagaya Shinmei-gu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage where music and dances are performed during festivals. - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. Until next time! 🤘🦊
The incorporation of traditional instruments like Shamisen (guitar) and Taiko and Tsuzumi drums gives this song a very unique feel, and goes very well with the ghostly singing of "Sakura Sakura" (one of Japan's oldest folk songs) during the breakdown.
I was on Sabaton live with Babymetal as a suport but for me they were main show and they delivered as hell! God damn one of the best shows I've attended! Insane energy and Megitsune live was like an atomic bomb for me!
Megitsune has historically been their opener! Saw them in KC in 2019 in a smaller venue and it stood as the most hype metal concert I’ve been to! Can’t wait til September!
Love this band. Su-Metal (lead singer) was the inspiration to begin the band; the music director Koba-Metal saw her performance and had an inspiration to have her front a heavy metal band, metal was also a lifelong interest of his. She had never heard heavy metal before, so he brought her and Moa-Metal and Yui-Metal to a Metallica concert. They took to it very quickly, the possibilities for music and performance with this style of music. It took off, again with Su-Metal as the foundational piece to the band; her precision, power, and charisma are astounding and just grow and improve over time.
Awesome to hear that you are going to see BABYMETAL live. I've seen babymetal live couple of times now and honestly they put on the best show ever. Really hope I could see them in Japan someday.
As to the power of Su's voice, checkout when she was in Tweens with her sister at ASH. Did you notice that Su had the Knife/Mic in her hand for the entire video??
bro, you're not gonna regret it watching them Live, i've watched them Live a month ago in Jakarta, and it's my most memorable 1 Hour and 30 Minutes in my life !!
Great reaction. 'Megitsune' is a difficult song to sing - so Su-metal uses it for sound checks and to check how she is sounding before concerts. It often tops fan polls for favourite song and they have played it live more often than any other song and it is almost guaranteed to be on the set list when you see them. It is arguably the song that showcases best what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The build up before they started and the breakdown in the middle of the song (the pig squeal screams are more obvious in the studio recording) uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade from her mic she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
Thanks for the reaction. This is the song that really sucked me into Babymetal. I still love this one. They play this almost every show even now. I like the 2021 live Budokan version too, but it is only Moa doing backup vocals. It will be even better with Momometal singing too now. Edit: Oh, I just heard you say you are going to the show with JustDunk, I have been watching his reaction for a couple weeks now too. That's awesome, I hope you two have a blast. I am going to Seattle and both LA shows in October.
which LA night are you going to see? first night sold out. i'm going to the 2nd night which is the end of the north american tour. can't wait! spent a pretty penny to get rail seats overlooking the floor (i'm too old to mosh lol). very appropriate they're playing at the you tube theater since this is where i first heard of them.
Having recently been to one of their live shows, Megitsune is near the top when it comes to crowd hype and energy. In my concert the only other song that came close was BxMxC
Seeing them live on December 3rd this year in the Netherlands. I've already seen them live 3 times in the past and they never fail to put on a great show.
i only discovered babymetal 3 months ago,and i already have at least a dozen favorites. reading about their history and watching early videos of them (yui and moa's audition video singing a karen girl's song is precious) has only fueled my new obsession. i'll be at their last show of the north american tour (appropriately at the you tube theater) in los angeles. first night sold out,and i'm expecting the same will be for night two. if this ends up being my one and only chance to see them live i'll die a happy man.
You got to see the live performance of Megitsune and already subscribed to JustDunk Look forward to seeing yours and Dunks' reactions when you see them live 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
the lead singer was picked because of her voice, the other 2 because they looked alike, could dance and sing well enough on background (Aoi can sing as well as Su though). They were all from a farm system of raising talent and all from different groups before put together. It wasn't like a rock band that formed in a garage
Does anyone here know what their US shows are like? I'm considering going to their Dallas show in August but idk what the crowds are like for artists singing in a completely foreign language like Japanese
Go see them, you won't regret it, they are amazing live I saw them live in 2019 at the House of Blues in Boston city and at the Forum in Inglewood _(near L.A.)_ I'm from Montreal, Canada......They are the only band I'm willing to travel to see them live

I guess Babymetal is the metal band who has the largest female fanbase. In Red Fox Festival, an all female concert, Babymetal hyped them all up!
yeahh babymetal, lets goooo i need more from babymetal

Get ready to jump and chanting “sore!” in babymetal concert.
Their most performed live song, Megitsune, we will both be hearing this one in Sept for sure. Glad youre going.
Live is extra levels of hypeness.
That guitar is a Shamisen, but to me it sounds like the sound of a Koto, Japan's national instrument.
I'll be at the Nashville concert. I'll keep an eye out for you and Dunk. 🤘🦊🤘

Megitsune:-
"Megitsune" (メギツネ, "Vixen") is the second major label single by the Japanese kawaii metal band Babymetal. It was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin.
The single was first announced for a June release on April 1, 2013. The single was released in four versions: a standard edition and three limited editions. The "Ki", "Tsu", and "Ne" (Kitsune means "fox" in Japanese) limited editions included single artwork focused on Nakamoto, Mizuno, and Kikuchi respectively, and their included DVDs feature footage of two songs from each of the live performances from Live: Legend I, D, Z Apocalypse. Additionally, the single included a chance to contain a ticket to the premium event Kitsune Festival at Meguro Rock May Kan on July 14, 2013.
To promote the release, the band was featured in the June issue of Marquee and on the cover of the July issue of Hedoban, in addition to collaborating with Tower Records for the 34th rendition of the event No Music, No Idol?.
Babymetal concert chronology:-
•Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013: May Revolution (2013)
•Babymetal World Tour 2014 (2014).
The Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013: May Revolution (BABYMETAL DEATH MATCH TOUR 2013 -五月革命-, Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013 -Gogatsu Kakumei-) was a promotional concert tour by Babymetal, occurring in conjunction with the promotion of "Megitsune". The band performed four shows, with two on the final tour date, at the same venue. Customers who purchased tickets to the tour could receive an exclusive edition of the single, with a remix by Yuyoyuppe, under the name DJ'Tekina//Something.
According to Mizuno, the tour was designed to be a "training tour". During each of the four shows the three members wore stage costumes for the eras of "Doki Doki ☆ Morning" (which had become nostalgically small for them), "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!", and "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", respectively, with the final show premiering new costumes for "Megitsune".

We have to thank Kobametal (real name Key Kobayashi) for the creation of Babymetal, who is the producer that came up with the whole idea and concept after seeing Suzuka at her farewell concert with her previous band Karen Girls. Megitsune is without a doubt their most played song and often tops fan polls. Even to this day they play it live and it is as good as it ever was (plus, the girls often put in a little fun in the performance, so keep a close eye on them during the performance xd).
Glad to hear you got to see them live this year and say hello to JustDunk (I am subbed to his channel and lurk in his discord lol) and enjoy the show, its gonna be amazing! 🤘🔥🦊
