    Great reaction. Su-metal, aged just 16 at the time, rising up from below the stage and following that intro from the Kami Band - and not only following it but then making the stage her own. This was only the second time she had performed this song live - first time was the night before, but she made it look and sound like she'd been singing it for years.
    These were the shows where the Kami Band became their full time support for all live shows (they were being phased in over the previous 18 months or so, playing a couple of festivals and the encores in some concerts) - and BABYMETAL were releasing their very first album.
    The Kami Band that night were Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (yes, 6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums).
    'Rondo of Nightmare' is possibly their darkest song lyrically. Rondo is a musical term meaning something like a repeated theme. They have borrowed the term as Su is caught in a recurring nightmare being chased through the dark by something she can't see. Finally she hides in or by a well or a fountain but it is still coming closer and, accepting there is no escape, she asks that if she is to die won't it at least show itself first.
    You are very observant and absolutely on the mark saying Su can sing so many different styles ... I see you already had a comment suggesting songs showing exactly that and how diverse and adaptable she can be.
    Also as you said, she is incredibly accurate ... obviously there are moments where her voice might crack on a note or she will be a little sharp etc, nobody can be that perfect, but it is so rare that it is very noticeable and people even comment on "did you hear when her voice cracked during this song?"
    I'm looking forward to you discovering more and what you might have to say about their other songs.

      @@mcflyjp That is why the whole concept of BABYMETAL was formed and developed around her. Their producer saw her potential and had the idea for her to front a fusion metal-Jpop band when he saw her performing with her previous group when she was about 11.

      You can tell she loves what she's doing. In all honesty, the amount of energy they exude at such a young age is a bit off putting. But it also is a bit different because it's music and if they love what theyre doing then I think it's ok.

    Welcome back to the Foxhole.🦊🤘🔥
    Excellent choice and sounds really nice a BM reaction every week.
    Glad to see you're back with this suggestion over a song composed by YuppeMetal (aka Yuyoyuppe), you'll hear more songs from him, he's also behind "Karate", the arrangements of Megitsune you already heard and more new songs from latest album like Monochrome and Believing.
    _Akumu No Rondo_ combines not only heaviness with dark waltz and dope time signatures changes but also delicate and fragile beautiness that makes you wants to grab your inception kit and go to rescue this 16 yo queen from this nightmare. You're the second one in a row noticing about the change on time signatures in this song.👍
    Temporarily title song was "Kill The Alice" so is like Alice but instead of Wonderland she's trapped in a nightmare trying to escape and avoid some evil entity.
    Rondo is a musical form in which you can hear a repetitive pattern, you can hear an example of this in the song "Blue Rondo a la Turk"
    The Kami Band doing their second magnificent intro of the night with their own set called "Mischiefs Of Metal Gods". They become regular after this special live at Budokan 2014 and leaving baby-bones, from early shows, behind, shout-out to them thou.
    This was the day (night) after the first live premiere of this song and she's dancing and performing like she already did a dozen of times before, like a pro. Also she's showing some fierceness here dancing on that high dangerous mini stage with no wire and that's how she keeps winning everyone's heart.
    But not everything was perfect here despite their impeccable performance and sound, and the day before the girls face that dangerous challenge on the stage, taking their own revenge after coming back in 2021 to celebrate their 10 years and leaving those ghosts behind, fortunately.
    Like i said, YuppeMetal is the one behind this song and he took inspiration from "Protest The Hero - Bloodmeat" song, of course i recommend you to hear that blaster song.
    Thanks for sharing this wonderful SuMetal solo and my favorite along with _"Akatsuki"_ Keep watching all their solos because all 4 of them are beautiful and of course the rest of the girls under a subgroup called "Black Babymetal" are enjoyable too, so don't miss out their other 4 songs too like "Onedari Daisakusen" live at Legend 1997, Gans Tomas got that clip safe to react.
    Next suggestion:
    - Tales Of The Destinies, you can find the only live version at Tokyo Dome 2016 clip safe to react at Babymetal Reactor Resource under the title "TOTD at the TD 2016", with watermarked logo safe to react, the clean version is in the description box.

    Yes, Su-metal is special, the guys are all amazing, but the interesting part is they praise the girls. The guys have seen lots of things, done lots of things before, etc.
    As you said it's interesting people would think they are idols or just a bunch of kids and not really in charge/lots of people around them making it all work. Sure this is true in part. And when you look closely the music is created with the girls/ladies in mind to give them space. In case of Babymetal at times vocal teachers/coaches reacting have said: at times like a layer cake, harsh music at the bottom and vocals on top.
    While lots of people in Japan would always be very kind and say good things, but the guys genuinely seem to say: these girls are the most professional and hardworking we've ever worked with it.
    And the success they've had started with them and depends fully on them. Because the girls work so hard, the guys feel obligated to work harder too. 🙂
    Babymetal is full of contrasts, lots of discover/understand. It's one of the fun things about them.

    Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。This is one of the songs that I am longing for BM's revials with Su's current matured voice. "Rondo" is a musical form with a recurring leading theme. I can't tell how many times I have viewed this video. It is literally a rondo of happy dream for me. Kamis' (=Gods') super solos were excellent enough as a main event in the show, but once the 16-year-old Queen (as of 2014) emerged from the underground, she colored everything differently with her penetrating voice then turned Kami Band's plays into a ritual to summon her.

    Nice reaction. Welcome to the foxhole it's deep and full of surprises. Lyrically this is one of their darkest if not the darkest song they have. All about a nightmare where you're being chased through the night and all you get to see is the fangs and claws flash in the moonlight. You hide in the forest it keeps coming. You hide in a fountain. This is where the stage lighting had it look like she was dangling in the air. As she was caught. She then gathers her strength as ask for it to at least show itself. And then she falls into the darkness. The song ends suddenly there. Because she doesn't die but wakes up. Remember this is a rondo or recurring nightmare. I always hoped that none of them had this nightmare. That's some scary stuff. The opening which isn't on the album is really cool. When Babymetal does their headline shows. The kamiband gets their moments to shine. Babymetal has mentioned that they do keep track of what folks say about them. And they know folks love the Kamibands. The East Kamiband has mentioned how much they enjoy playing with Babymetal. And that because of them they have gotten to play around the world. The fans love them too. Boh the bass player has said he would rather play with Babymetal then anyone else. Boh just might be having more fun on that stage than anyone else. As you watch their live performances from the big stage shows to the festival appearances Boh is having a great time. When choosing a song to do. Check to see if it has an intro. Most of those are the Kamiband playing solos. I suggest Yava with intro of course. Su's ability to sing in different styles is amazing. and you've just touched the tip of the iceberg. Babymetal was built around Su's incredible voice. She was born more talented than humanly possible and now she's learned some great vocal skills to go along with it. Off stage Su is 5'2" on stage Su is way over 10' tall. When Yui and Moa are with her on stage you can see them from space. A big statement yup. But you'll get to see it even more as you go down the foxhole. Enjoy the surprises along the way.

I discovered BM during the COVID lockdown on early 2020 and they sparked an excitement in music that I haven’t felt since I was a teenager. I am always interested in reactors, such as yourself, that have a good music knowledge and appreciation, whether you like them or not, I enjoy the insight. Can I recommend a song called AKATSUKI to you but there are two versions I think you should check out side by side. The normal version from the Budakon Black Night concert from 2014 and than contrast that with the “unfinished version”, which is SuMetal and a piano accompaniment from the Legend 1997 concert. You get to see the band in all their glory in the first one and Su singing a beautiful ballad in the second. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work.

    I will comment some on Su's fantastic singing. These Blu-ray clips may have been cleaned up if needed. I did however see them live last month and recorded most songs in pretty good quality to save the moment and absorb what happened that night. When you're there it's nice, loud and over before you know it, but upon watching the videos at home I realized how truly great of a performance it was. I've already got my ticket for when they return in November.
    I was eager to see their return in January this year (after their break), so I watched the few fan cams that popped up and Su was to be honest rather shaky, at least for the new songs that had not been performed before. This is the only case in which I can say that yes, they did definitely clean it up for the WOWOW broadcast and Blu-ray. So she is human after all, but it's clear that this was a rare occurrence because she was back in form and singing perfectly when I saw them. Nothing was off compared to their Blu-ray shows or CDs, except for 2-3 second during Road of Resistance, but that was because her IEM slipped out, which she pushed back in and then sung perfectly again. If I'm really picky she might have been off for a split second twice in Metal Kingdom. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to sing in a LOUD venue while also dancing. She really is as quick and accurate in hitting notes as she gets credit for. I've got nothing but praise to give and I didn't doubt them before seeing them in person, but after doing so I am only more certain in their abilities.
    I've also seen most (all?) videos of her performances at Actor School Hiroshima and they are definitely great. There are also a few performances at festivals where they haven't had the chance to tweak the recordings and she does sing very well in those too.

    • @mcflyjp
      @mcflyjp  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I appreciate this honest opinion of her.
      As I said no one is without fault and no one can sing perfectly every time ESPECIALLY live and with everything she has to do live. The fact she's only off for a couple seconds in ONE song is amazing

    • @schneider1112
      @schneider1112 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@mcflyjp When reading comments I'm sometimes worried that a few people might have unrealistic expectations. You're right, no singer can be perfect all the time, every time. This is what I want to highlight with my comment and also to assure others that based on my experience she does sing practically perfectly most of the time. So while a small blip may have been corrected in some songs for some Blu-ray releases, she probably nailed those same songs at the next show, but also perhaps slipped in other ones instead. It's only human and I don't think it's wrong to correct a few minor mistakes when selling shows on Blu-ray. It's not like they are enhancing her voice to become something it isn't.

  • @road-runner

    Excellent reaction/analysis, thanks!
    My very first BABYMETAL song also had an intro and it totally caught my attention from the first second. The girls doing their thing, the choreo and all the live production really surprised me. But what made me a die hard fan was watching Su-metal's solo songs from this same concert (Budokan 2014 Black Night). I'm probably a little biassed but she's an incredible performer, very accurate, with great intonation and even vocalization. Someone told that she missed a note in this performance though (I'm not able to hear it, sorry). Watching this, it's easy to forget that she was just 16 years old back then.
    And yes, if you want to actually see (and listen to) the band you need to go with the live performances. There is no other way (literally) as they don't usually play on studio recordings and don't usually appear on music videos.
    Other songs with an instrumental intro are: "Catch me if you can", "YAVA!", "Kagerou" and "Awadama Fever".
    Until next time!

Takayoshi Ohmura's track 'Hill of Wisteria' on his Angels in the Dark album is a tribute to his friend and teacher Mikio Fujioka. Mikio was another BABYMETAL guitarist who died after a fall. The album track features solos by ISAO (a Kami member we don't see quite so often), Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura. Ohmura's solo on that track is a recreation of the part Mikio used to play in an earlier version of the piece before his passing.

    Incidentally, their notes do fall flat from time to time in concerts. I've seen them and also you can see concert videos online...they are human come to find out. However, I will say considering what they are doing, they don't fall flat as many times as you would expect. Typically its the warming up songs, and of course the wildly complex ones where they are also jumping around a lot, but yeah...I suspect there might be a undercurrent of track mixed with their actual vocals in some of the hard areas for the video shoots...especially post-puberty Su who's voice changed slightly.

    The part where her voice is distorted, I don't know if this is correct, but I've seen both an audio engineer and an opera singer reacting to this song say that it's a technique where she sings into the mic at a particular angle. I'm not a musician or an audio engineer so I don't know, but that's what they said at least.

    • @mcflyjp
      @mcflyjp  ปีที่แล้ว

      That distortion can't be done by just angling the mic. It can change into stion and dynamics (volume) but not sound like she's talking through a megaphone.

      @@delbomb3131 that is one of the things she does to get that sound but it's not it in its entirety. I understand Allen likes to break down the production of stuff and has workings in producing. But coming from years of experience that sounds isn't just from angling the mic.

    • @delbomb3131
      @delbomb3131 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mcflyjp ohh for sure, he was saying that like you bend your neck, angle the mic, and almost sing through your nose plus some other stuff, but he ended up doing it either on stream or in a video and was freaking out how it worked without effects. Now weather or not she's doing it without effects is a different story. Just adding that people have confirmed it can be done pretty well naturally.

    As good as Su-metal is, she isn't always perfect when she performs live, though she is very, very consistent, particularly for a singer who also has to dance while singing live. It's even more impressive when you consider how young she still is to have achieved so much and delivered so many epic performances; she was only 16 years old at the time of this particular performance at Budokan Black Night. These videos are usually taken from the Blu Rays that are released for all of their major concerts, and they do some clean up and pitch correction for those.
    If you want to hear what Su sounds like singing a more pop kind of song, have a listen to "My Graduation Toss" (2012), from Sakura Gakuin (the idol group that Babymetal spun off from). Or if you want to hear a performance much more focused on her vocals, have a listen to "Monochrome - Piano Version" on The First Take channel.

    • @mcflyjp

      I don't mean distortion like through some type of device. You can create distortion naturally, like you said, through your nose, mouth, vocal chords. Still distortion.

      Not to be rude or sound like I don't believe it because it's an all female band, but I'll have to see it to believe the "Best guitarists". There are so many good ones and so many different kinds of guitarists that it's hard to choose "the best".
