The most epic ST song! I love that you mention that it is broken down into acts. I’ve always thought of it as 4 acts. In act 1, I feel like he’s reminiscing and/or dreaming of a happier time in his life or when the relationship was actually good, and these dreams torment him. Even in the dreams he’s drowning. Then in act 2 he wakes up to reality. He’s not doing well, he’s disappointed in the way he’s living his life, he’s apathetic, and surrounded by people constantly trying to take from him. Then act 3 switches to a major feel, almost hopeful sounding but not quite, more like he’s now lamenting about what he had. He’s aware now of what he believes he’s lost. In this moment it almost seems like he’s in acceptance. This swells up to the point where he can’t take it anymore and then we get the last act where he’s just done. He’s now demanding to be taken back, he doesn’t care if it’s reasonable to ask for or not. He’s past reason and sanity. And I love that it fades out there. Leaving us there with him. So good.

While I love the studio version I will agree that this live version is better. He was not sick he had a bleeding nodule on a vocal cord. I saw his interview on TH-cam. He has since had the lesion fixed. You can find his talking about it on an interview he did with a great opera lady reactor. He even goes into detail about what they had to do to repair it. I went to Aftershock that year too! Surprisingly they did not play this song while they were touring the US. I was just starting to get into them about this time and I hate myself for not staying through the whole set now that they have become one of my favorite bands. Can’t wait until they come through our area again. I’m here for it if you go through the ST journey! These guys are very unique and special.

Also, Ascensionism is a must listen!! The lyrics are so poetic. There's a lyric video out there that everyone uses to review the song, but the lyrics are incorrect. I recommend pulling up them up on Google.

It's not going to bring you back to that time and place when things were good and innocent and pure. I love this band so freaking much.

If you do more ST, pulling up the lyrics is a good idea to fully appreciate each song. If you do a deep dive, you will see that many metaphors are carried from one song to another, and the meanings become clearer. Start at the beginning of The Night Does Not Belong To God, and keep going! Personally, I think this story is about a near death experience following some sort of tragedy that he caused, and feels insanely responsible for. He begs his god for help, but hears nothing. He finally moves away from religion towards spirituality. And in doing so, forgives himself, and learns to love himself again.

OH MY GOD, you hadn't done Heretic yet?????????? Holy shit, this one is huge for me. ❤ Hearing him explicitly acknowledge himself as being a force of nature (& the rest of it) in a self-analysis song (vs lyrics on a flex track) shifted something in my soul. It might actually have been Heretic that made me an actual ride-or-die fan, after Hi Ren/Sick Boi/Chalk Outlines had already shown me that his music was important. I fucking LOVE the dissonance in the vocals. He's singing in tune on the lower track, and then with the lead vocal track in unison in his higher range he's purposefully all over the place; he comes in on the sharp end of pitch then slides into pitch and then sometimes even exits the note either sharp again or flat, for effect. And just... the way he finds such UNUSUAL melodies for so much of his music... he does it over and over and over again throughout his catalogue and the beauty of it brings me to tears. You'd think that after 100 years of popular music where every chord progression known to man has been explored in depth via dozens of artists, that even an absolute genius songwriter would only hit on something approaching a unique melody line once or twice in their career. Ren does it with astounding frequency, with melodies that become a part of the humming of the damn universe and sing through your soul. That's Heretic, for me. Oh, and this video ("visualizer" my ass) is probably the one where it dawned on me how much MORE so many of his videos contribute to whatever the narrative is in the lyrics of a given song.

This drummer has to be one the best drummers alive at this time. Not only his playing, but also the way he writes and composes. His drumming most of the time has purpose, if you listen closely he often accents certain lyrics, guitar riffs, synth/melodic parts, but not in an overshadowing way but in a very complementary way - okay sometimes he just shows off - but that combined with the great composing and writing by Vessel is just so pleasing to the ears, not only for casual listeners but also for people who know/play music.

thank you for the reaction, there are certain things only musicians understand, like how he hits the wide jump note so accurately, most of the time singers do not hit them that precisely, they have adjust it very slightly. I completely agree that technic-wise Dimash is really unmatched (I challenge people could name any singer who could do everything as Dimash) I don't understand who could argue this, because art and preference is subjective but technique isn't.

I do not call this a cover song. It is an experience and stands on its own merit. Cover or not, Doesnt matter i. It is its own power and emotion. If you don't get chills, or emotional or tears then there is something seriously wrong with you. He goes from a voice that rocks you gently like Angel wings fluttering and then growls that is so intense it grabs your soul. We are 77 and 80. Tears and goosebumps each time we listen. David Draiman possesses an impressive vocal range that spans over three octaves, ranging from a low of E2 to a high of C6. Amazing!
