  • Aerial photography filmed with a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced. The Confederation Line is a light rail transit (LRT) line under construction in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
The Confederation Line is a transportation system worthy of one of the world’s leading capital cities. The 12.5 kilometre line from Blair Station to Tunney’s Pasture includes a 2.5 kilometre tunnel through the downtown core, 13 stations, a Maintenance and Storage Facility and the purchase of 34 Alstom CITADIS Light Rail Vehicles.

This is fascinating. So much of this construction is underway behind fences, or below ground level. Even on the bus we see little. There is some grumbling now about the projected completion date being later than originally estimated. If people saw how much work is going into this I think there would be more appreciation for the effort that has been involved.

Thanks for this awesome vid! The view of the old neighbourhood is making me homesick. Born and raised in the east end and can't wait to ride these rails. I've been living in Banff, AB. for 21 years but will making a special trip home in 2018 just so I can experience this.

Weird that the curve at Hurdman before the bridge is a series of straight segments. Won't that cause a lot of jerking as the train goes from segment to segment?

+dmn62 That's just the bridge deck. The rails haven't been installed yet. Those will be properly curved.

Well put video. Please come to Phoenix, AZ and demonstrate how transit should be ran to increase ridership. We're losing ridership from month to month during a extension phase. The public in this county (Maricopa) is not happy with the system.

Thanks Cap D. I've been waiting for something like this, the Official website is nothing compared to this, granted they have tunnel access. Are you working on another video for the "West" LRT stations?

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798

Thank you Jim. I have not been out to see the west end construction yet. The web site shows that it has not entered full construction mode yet. Once everything is a go and being built, I'll be out to shoot a short video segment and post it here.

It really too bad the mayor and city counsellors have demonstrated they are not particularly trustworthy or concerned with anyone who is not wealthy.
Over priced transportation costs in an over-taxed city, forcing people to live outside the city and pay with their lives (time) and some of the highest public transportation costs anywhere.
On top of all that, one cannot just 'hop" on a train, one needs to put money on a card, and then take an over-priced, super-slow trip delayed with snow, traffic and derailments due to shortsightedness, being cheap, non-transparent and working for big business instead of people.
Ottawa property taxes force homeowners on to the street, because rents are so high, due to the fact the wealthy who can write off their capital gains and expenses and shelter their investments, raise rents to pay those taxes. The city encourages condos that pay taxes and condo fees. Who does that benefit???
Where, exactly, does the city think people get their money????? It seems the city caters to the wealthy and disposes of, or "puts up with" the non-wealthy (sorry we're poor).
The city, as do most governments, only care about optics. they only care about people after they die, especially if it is due to the failure of their ("our") social services.
There is always room for improvement, and sometimes, there is room for a lot of improvement.

are all the stops going to be in the middle of nowhere or is the town built like that.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Papat26 The stops in the video are on arteries into the city. The city core was still off into the distance. You can see some of the city core in this video: th-cam.com/video/qYFxCzTD-28/w-d-xo.html

Hi CD, nice video! I like the early morning light in the Blair Rd. shot in particular.
If the video is purely for recreational purposes, you should be aware of Transport Canada's recommendations on safe drone use:
    www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/standards/standards-4179.html
    In particular:
"Don't fly Closer than 9 km from any airport, heliport, or aerodrome."
(The transitway where you're shooting is just 4 kilometers south of Rockcliffe Airport)
    and
"Don't fly Near moving vehicles, highways, bridges, busy streets or anywhere you could endanger or distract drivers."
(I notice you're flying over active roads at multiple points of the video.)
Transport Canada gets much more serious about these restrictions if the flight is for anything other than recreational use. Any non-recreational (commercial) flights have to be under a Special Flight Operations Certificate.
If you applied for a Special Flight Operations Certificate from Transport Canada, you could get exemptions to these restrictions.
If you're not familiar with these procedures, I'd recommend signing up to the facebook groups:
    facebook.com/groups/SFOC.CA/
    and
    facebook.com/groups/cuava/
Do a little reading there then ask any questions, lots of people willing to help you figure out the do's and don'ts and how to stay legit with respect to Transport Canada.

+Greg Marshall Hi Greg. Thanks for the comments. I'm very familiar with Canada, US and UK drone rules. We do need regs for operating drones because of course anyone can pick one up and just start flying (TH-cam has plenty of examples). I'm a seasoned drone operator/photographer and use caution, common-sense, before flying in all situations. I'll certainly join the Facebook groups to discuss further.
