    This is a massive psychological change for Ottawa. Residents will view their city as a large urban area and will expect and demand bigger things. Thanks for posting and a fantastic job on your port.

    As a former uOttawa student, I couldn't even tell you how the Confederation Line LRT would have greatly benefited me as the list would be very long. I was actually planning to come up to Ottawa to ride the LRT, but can't as I have a job interview tomorrow morning. Will definitely be on board the next time I'm in the capital!

    This is so awesome. I wish cities here in Texas could have such public transportation infrastructure this beautiful and well built. While cities like Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, El Paso, and Austin have something similar, it’s nowhere near this massive or beautiful. The only time we decide to have infrastructure this beautiful is when we have a 12-lane freeway expansion. Sorry for the wall of text, but keep up the good work, I absolutely love watching your videos. Makes me want to do big things once I get my Masters in Urban Planning, plus the music is very peaceful!!

      I agree. The station anchors are evident. One can sense a real destination in these designs from the git-go. You know the station is a comfortable transition. Denver has nice layouts and designs but these large expansive awnings provide a further comfort.

    I remember complaining when the earlier north -south line through Carleton University was opened not long after I went back and graduated. The impact of this on students at UofO won't be quite as much as that was, but it will be significant. This might also let people shop at retailers in the downtown again without having to fight bus passengers.

      The trains are nice and comfortable but the problem is when they break down, and they do, the people who are payed to take care of them for 35 years are complete idiots. Suppose to have 13 trains everyday and 2 spare but they seem to break down with rain, snow and cold. So we pray alot for nice, sunny day. LOL Yes i live in Ottawa.

    I know its purely aesthetic, but I wish they had built one train out of 8 car modules, instead of two trains coupled. It would have advantages, mainly more passenger room, and the ability to walk through the entire train. Maybe in the future when the line reaches capacity they will consider it

    • @RMTransit
      @RMTransit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not even purely aesthetic. It's totally a reasonable ask, and as you say I'm sure we will see it long term. That being said it would probably be one of the longest if the not the longest LFLRV when that happens and we get a 120m long single train.
      With that in mind this setup is probably better from a reliability pov as they've had issues, at least this way they can split trains if only one half has issues

    It’s kind of funny reading back on these comments, because wow did we hate this train when it was first launched. It would have horrible breakdowns on a daily basis and because they funnelled all of the major bus routes to force us onto the LRT you would get to either Tunneys or Blair Station to a MASSIVE congestion of people. During rush hour people didn’t have enough time to get on and off at the major stations (Ottawa U, Parliament) and would hold the doors open which caused them to break alllllll of the time.

    Great video! Interesting LRVs, the Citadis Spirit cars seem very similar to the Bombardier Flexity vehicles. However these cars seem to look very narrow at least from what I'm used to... Not sure how they compare to the Siemens S70s

    I found the new trains have a smell that is reminiscent of a barnyard, especially on the 1st day

      I'm really hoping for a Line 3 down Bank St and Montreal Rd but that's a very big ask. An at grade Carling LRT was in the books but I'm not sure if that's still going ahead.

    Do you know if there was any advantage for Ottawa to use Low-floor LRT as opposed to High-floor LRT (like what Calgary uses)? The Ottawa LRT won't run on Streets and I'm guessing High-floor vehicles could carry more passengers.

    • @realamazingworld6756

    • @kepstin
      @kepstin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Train sets are Alstom Citadis Spirit; Ottawa was the first system to use this low floor light rail vehicle. They have a high top speed for future longer connections to suburban communities.

  • @danvetor1365

    This looks better than Kitchener's. Ours goes from one mall to another and crosses all the streets in weird places , sometimes down the middle and other times right or left side. No right turns , no left turns everywhere. Single lane traffic all over and even less parking. Old bus stops with shelters moved to new spots with just a stick saying bus stop. People wait longer for the bus and spend more time on the bus. It's a real cluster fuck. Region doesn't have a clue what it's doing. Good luck with your new train system.
