i remember he also called jackie aina, a black woman, a gorilla, and people didn't care bc they didn't like her. it's messed up how some can ignore blatant racism just bc they don't like a person's videos.
Maybe people don’t care because she was the one who started it. I did some research, of course that’s a bad name (I am from a black family myself). But for what I understood Jeffree was minding his own business when she suddenly badmouthed him. Jeffree didn’t use to be so peaceful as he is today, and she definitely provoked him for no reason. You don’t provoke people when you can’t handle when they whack you back.

Jeffree’s music fell under the crunkcore category, now a dead genre. The closest thing today is probably hyperpop. Back in the day I liked a few crunkcore songs (semi-ironically lol) but I never liked Jeffrees music. The appealing nature of crunkcore was that it was funny, but Jeffrees music was never all that humorous idk. It was pretty boring and sounded shite. I met him at warped tour once though for the heck of it and it’s crazy how different he looks now.

so some context you're missing! the 'ee' in his name is VERY of the time on myspace. myspace scene kids (i was one) would often have very stylized names and would change up the spelling of their name to be more ~scene. his music fits that aesthetic, it's a genre that only really existed in the early internet days lol. the whole thing about not smoking or drinking or doing drugs also fits into the "straight-edge" niche of the scene. it's hard to explain if you weren't a myspace scene kid circa 2004-2008, but it is all very typical of that subculture.

Just a quick correction about isanyoneup…I was part of that scene at the time and everyonnnne went on that website, most of us were teenagers just trying to be “cool”. Revenge p actually was not illegal at the time and that website was a huge part of why these laws were created (at least here in the US).
It's so horrible and traumatic the thing with revenge p ,omg . And the laws are not that good in general when it comes about that
On Laura Lee - I don't think this is ONLY down to misogyny. I think it was her damn apology vid. That abomination where she barely forced out a single tear and fake cries into the camera was her undoing. Even fans who may have excused/ forgiven the racist tweets couldn't trust her because that video just made her look totally fake. Jeffree Star may have catalysed her downfall, but Laura brought it full circle herself.

dont forget how much control jeffree had over the community. James charles merch was through killer merch and his makeup pallet was through morphe which jeffree was an investor in. he had alot of power over james and received proably over 20% of his revenue. jeffree got a cut of every sisters hoodie and every pallet sale. its weird how jeffree went into business with james, promoted him on his youtube channel (which i doubt jeffree would let james on his channel if he wasnt getting a cut) and then at the peak jeffree DESTROYED james' career. when tati calls out james in by sister, jeffree immedielty says he has receipts that james is a predator. he wasnt only friends with james when he allegedly knew he was a predator, he was PROMOTING his business and getting a huge cut of it. It seems to me that james was going to release a documentary teaching us how makeup production happens (just like how shane and jeffree did with the controvery pallet) and i think the entire community was terrified of that happening. the community wanted the private label illusion to stay the way it is and they feared james would expose everything hurting everyone's profits. So jeffree decided to take down james and release his own documentary before anyone else did

I think an interesting point is, that Hunter Moore from anyone up actually went to jail because he also hacked into peoples emails to get more content for his website. Revenge corn wasn’t illegal at the time.
i hate it when people say that times were different. no, they really weren't. i'm 42, and i'm telling you right now, 20 years ago times were not different. it's never been ok to do n*zi crap, it's never been ok to fat shame, it's never been ok to shame gay people either. the times were not different. when i was in high school in the 90s, it was not ok to shame trans people, it was not ok like n*zis, and so on and so forth. so please don't use that excuse for anyone. 20 and 30 years ago were not the dark ages.
I don't think people mean it was different in that it was "ok". It wasn't ok at any point, they just mean the MySpace era humour was "edgy"/ offensive on purpose basically. I remember using the word gay as just a way to say someone/ something was lame, like your friend doesn't want to come to a party. Didn't even occur to me how it could be offensive until a gay friend had a conversation with me about it. Doesn't mean I was homophobic, just didn't realise that a vulnerable group was the butt of the joke and how that was very obviously unfunny.
The world was a lot less global and people were a lot less likely to criticise their idols on the internet/ other platforms, not to mention "influencer celebrities" were a totally new thing. People were only used to traditional celebrities who had perfectly manicured public personas and PR teams to mop of their screw ups. So I think all it means is that saying things that are seen as morally objectionable/ offensive weren't always widely condemned and even portrayed as being "cool" to the angsty teens of the day, because it's disguised as comedy.
Sorry, it's late where I am, so I probably rambled a bit, but I was a teen in the MySpace era - 34 year old here, so was the target audience/ participated in this type of edge lord online persona nonsense. I cringe to think of it, but telling people to "go die" was a common thing, for example.
If this doesn't chime with your experience, it could be due to a geographical element - I dunno where you're from or how socially conscious/ liberal it is. But I'm from somewhere quite conservative and didn't have the tools to critically engage with my own thought processes/ the image of what "cool" looks like to realise that some of these things were just wrong - even if disguised as humour. This is literally how Shane and many others of a similar timeframe in the early TH-cam days got away with blackface and other overtly racist things, for example.

It was definitely socially acceptable to fat shame and lgbtq shame in the '90s! Not the other thing, though- that one was a vile insult at the time- unlike today, it seems. Fat people and trans people in particular were always the butt of the joke in the '90s. How hard would you have to look to find a storyline on '90s TV involving a trans person that did not treat them as a joke?
Find me a storyline from '90s TV that involves a trans person or a fat person that doesn't involve that person being the butt of the joke. You can probably do it, but you're going to have to do research. It was absolutely socially acceptable to fat shame and LGBTQ-shame in the '90s and '00s.

You are so right about the says he is changing etc then goes back to do it. Jeffree has always dumped friends. Back in the MySpace days he did the same thing. Exactly the same. He had a friend who he used to hang with I can’t remember her, and but they did tons of photos shoots and then he fell out. He would hang with the latest MySpace person then dump them and talk crap. He was always trying to turn straight men.

I’m a person of colour, and while i don’t believe he has ever actually been a racist, he’s a piece of shit for a million other reasons, as you’ve outlined here. He is the DEFINITION of Toxic.

As far as influencers going to the police, unfortunately in these cases only the victim can do that BUT if they're going to claim to have proof of these actions they need to post it so the world knows these are predators and encourage these victims to go to the police and offer support to them so these predators are in jail.

Wasn’t the Yak thing explained later on ? That even if he has yaks and considers them pets they will pass away or will have to be put down due to medical things. So he is selling his now passed on yaks for profit. This is like any other farming community does. Like my neighbors have chickens, pigs and cows. Considers them pets, with names and everything. They live happy healthy lives. Recently Delilah there little pig passed away and they used every bit of her and sold her meat etc. so the jeffree and the farming thing I shrug cause any farmer will get profit off there animals once they pass.

I just found your 2 channels and I have begun binge watching already! I heard of Jeffree around the time when his Blue Blood palette came out. I began to watch his videos where he would review products, and at first, i found him super interesting. I don't know what it was exactly, but I began to get strange vibes. I didn't even look up his history, but I stopped watching and buying his merchandise. Now seeing these videos and the backstory, I'm like "Oh my goodness, I'm so glad I stopped!"

he states he invests in the cannabis industry so i think he tried to demonize alcohol (weed's competitor) and say he "never tried it" to make more money in his cannabis investments. but then again jeffree said that nate doesnt sit at home all day he grows weed but then nate said on live that "we've been fooled."
