    I went into serious credit card debt buying makeup at the height of it all in 2015. Like its such a weird time to look back on and try to describe to people who weren't a part of it. I remember how having every holiday launch felt like something you HAD to have no matter what it was. I'm happy that the focus now is on having great products and less products with more loyalty towards what actually works verses what the next launch is

    In Australia Too Faced is fairly expensive. Their born this way foundation is $68, the concealer $51, their latest Born this way neutral palletes are $78! For the same price here you can get many higher end products that are more consistent, I could pay an extra $3 - $5 and get my favourite NARS foundation 😅 Also their holiday palletes are so overpriced and it's a bit like playing roulette if the formula will be decent quality or not.

    Getting the chocolate bar palette really made me realise I didn’t NEED everything shown on TH-cam. I was so excited to get it and when I did it was so boring and average. After that I really moved away from massive collections. I get tempted by their Christmas collections sometimes but then remember they are TRASH

    • @potat19
      @potat19 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes! I got it such a long time ago. It really was my first eyeshadow palette and I was so excited to have it in my hands. My sisters got one for each one too but when we started using it, after a couple uses we all got kind of bored of it. To this day I’m still trying to hit pan on the majority of the shades and ironically, even if I bought it because I hopped on the nude trend, my most used shades now are the purple, green, gold and pink. 😅

    From my moral standpoint speaking, I never even dared to look at Too Faced products after they blackmailed Nikki because they knew she was trans and forced her to do her coming out video though she wasn't really ready to do it. the only thing i would say, working at an ulta, i've opened packaging before to see shade ranges. too faced seems to have a really bad habit of making their packaging reflect their darkest shades as super deep, and when you open them it's 3-5 shades lighter than the picture. but then you look at their fairest shades and they're true to the color on the packaging

    i'm only getting to start wearing makeup at 22 years old, so i'm buying my very first products right now and it's very weird starting out with makeup in this current era where my peers and people around my age are very disillusioned with makeup and have experienced a "peak" of makeup culture which i haven't. it's so nice hearing you explain the history of those brands and how you, a person my age who was into makeup before, lived this evolution. i think it's a blessing this interest of mine is starting out during my adulthood because i know that i have to look for the things i really Need and Want, and i don't have the impressionable nature of teenagers who are marketed makeup to. i don't know which brands or products are hyped up, so i just look for things that work out for me with the looks i want to achieve and the budget i have for makeup. it's kind of weird hopping on the makeup bandwagon so late but that's a blessing in my opinion (for my wallet and my own identity lol)

    I’m an Elder Millennial (early 80s) and Brand trips, excessive PR, etc. infuriated me and made me less inclined to purchase.
    I would have rather had products with more attainable price points than see a bunch of influencers go “Trippin w Tarte” or be “Friends w Benefit” and see these wildly extravagant PR boxes with Dyson vacuums and built in TVs to market a mascara. It was gross. It was geared to make things feel unattainable and the environmental impacts were grossly unnecessary. Samantha Ravndahl’s anti PR video was what really opened my eyes to just how ridiculous the waste alone on the PR boxes were.

I was in grade 8 (so 2008/9) when I started watching girls like juicystar07 and they all had massive collections that made me feel like I had to get way more makeup. Everytime a new mac collection came out it was collect it or live in regret for the rest of your life lmao. Anyway now I have a collection as big as theirs with no TH-cam channel and I fully blame them LMAO, so yeah collecting was a thing, I guess it was just more niche? I find it so weird how many people were mindlessly purchasing every launch from all these brands blindly. I’m so glad drugstore brands and most brands in general have stepped up their game and now people have higher expectations and don’t just buy every launch. I NEVER got caught in any hype, not even for the conspiracy pallet which I didn’t purchase. Too faced has been TRASH for years. I stopped wearing Too faced when I found out how horrible the original owners were his sister included. What they did to Nikki was DISGUSTING !!! Their products were mediocre anyway and they didn’t have a bronzer dark enough for me. The only thing I absolutely love and embarrassingly still use is the born this way multi tasking concealer. It’s amazing but when it runs out I’m NOT repurchasing it. I honestly HATE crude advertising and over sexualized products like Orgy pallet or better than sex mascara I think it’s disgusting lewd and weird and wish these brands would stop that. And yes I still collect makeup I just reignited my love of makeup recently. I stopped purchasing all together after all the drama on TH-cam in the beauty community. I got totally disgusted and got into collecting plants like many did during covid lol. Now I’m tired of rare plants and I’m m back to collecting makeup again. Edit: I always thought too faced was cute but never fell into the hype. The famous bronzer they released chocolate soleil was not dark enough for me. Even the cute pallets were all trash. Btw I started hating Jarrod after Jeffree dragged him and revealed how much Jarrod paid Nikki. So I blacklisted Too faced even before the Transgender drama. In fact I didn’t even know Nikki was Trans until she was forced to come out. I refuse to keep up with trends. I never did unless I naturally liked it like cut creases for example. I’ll never stop doing that occasionally. And yes I will always be a collector. And never stopped wearing falsies. I always hated the matte look and will always love the bronzed dewy look. At a certain age you choose your final aesthetic and don’t want to change lol.

    My biggest flex is that I never bought highend brands (TooFaced is one of them).I always bought drugstore and was very happy with it:Maybelline,Nyx,Essence,Catrice,Trend it up,MaxFactor,Manhattan,L'Oréal (I don't buy L'Oréal anymore, because I don't want to give money to Scamber Turd).

    i had one of the chocolate palletes and loved it at the time but, looking back, i would not like it today. as you said, they are kind of stuck in 2015. along with all of the controversies, specially the nikkie fiasco, it's not a brand i ever think about buying anymore 🤷🏽‍♀️ just not worth it

    guys i have to be honest, i absolutely hate the “better than sex” mascara. it’s so clumpy and dry. i’ve bought several bottles and it’s like dry from the moment you open it. it flakes all over my face and gets in my eyes. i’ve never understood the hype.

    Oh darn it I haven't been too into high end makeups since the Bye sister dramas...I was just fed up with Jeffery star and unsub from all the big makeup gurus. Now I am back but I know what I like now. I started out with urban decay but now I dislike their eyeshadows. It's soooo hard. I just bought a bit of two faced xmas collection which I haven't try. I bought their nude palette for my friend so idk how that compares with the xmas collection. I hope it don't disappoint me too much.

    As a millennial TF was one of my first "high end" brands with their Cocoa Powder foundation. I really got into makeup when their Peach Perfect line dropped. I don't care what anyone says but that line was 💯. I am still so disappointed that they discontinued the whole line. What makes me even more disappointed is that they keep coming out with "new" products only for them to be gone when you go back later to repurchase 🙄.

    My first ever bronzer was a Too Faced one and it made me think bronzer just didn’t work on me as it always looked like dirt. Then I tried a friend’s bronzer and it turns out the problem was just the patchy af formula of the Too Faced one 😬

    I’ve literally never actually bought anything from Too Faced except their born this way foundation (I will admit that im guilty of that but I fell for the hype cause it was all the girlies and gays favorite foundation for quite some time) I’ve owned a few products from them like the better than sex mascara (their cult classic fave 🙄), their heart shaped gold highlighter - I KNOW YALL REMEMBER THAT! so, long story short I’ve never owned any of their eyeshadow products. They never really appealed to me. That’s just me though. The couple of products I did mention that I didn’t buy - I got gifted 😅 I ended up regifting the highlighter and used up the mascara. I STILL have the born this way foundation that is most definitely expired at this point lmaoooo but that’s about it. The brand has always been problematic imo. I fell for the hype of the foundation cuz of all the influencers that were swearing by it for SOOO LONG ugh, glad those days are over. Anyone else? 😂

    I think it wasn't about the "millennial" look, but rather the cutesy-sexy style that was popular in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Manga and anime became big in the west (and Too Faced is also still very popular in the Japanese and Korean markets). It also helped that they were very different from the "boring" older brands - Urban Decay started as the rebellious dark lips teenager opposition, Too Faced as the cutesy lolitas. KVD then combined the styles in her brand.

    Too Faced's best collection for me was the Peach collection. I was really sad that it got discontinued. I loved the peach glosses so much. After that, nothing else has ever really caught my eye from the brand. All it ever is any more is tacky packaging and eye palettes that have the same colors as the previous palette they had launched. Also, before Blandino sold the brand his behavior really turned me off from buying anything. There were a lot of people who were disgusted by the whole "Rich lives matter" debacle.
