Tuned by DTE is this Toyota Hilux 2,8 GD-6 which features some CPU tuning and a freeflow exhaust. We thought it would be a good idea to pair this custom Hilux up against the current bakkie drag race champion; the Volkswagen Amarok 3,0 V6 TDI.
A stage 3 tuned Amarok will do 0-100km in a little over 5 seconds.
Most sports hatches would struggle with that

That Hilux was over fueling horribly on take off, dumping clouds of black smoke. In that state of tune, that engine ain’t long for this world.
Even when it's stock, the Hilux is always better than any pick up

i think everybody including you seems to forget the hilux tiny 2.8 displacement minus 2 cylinders over the vw .. even in standard form the hilux is a beast ... in tuned form it is a MONSTER & EXTREMLEY BULLET PROOF .... Proof ... i just drove one today .... all i can think of now is how & how soon can i get me 1 or 2 even 3 ....!!!!!

it"s all about the choosing corresponding model with the corresponding engine, i'm personaly toyota fan because you can constantly punish their mototrs and they won't break. My father's friend owned a dealer and i've noticed that the rangers although they have nice power they'ra just not as sturdy as the hiluxes. And the only vw powerplants that are reliable are the ones I like the TDI 265-6 from the amarok and the ea113 from the mk6 ed35 mk5 gti and the audi s3 and rline golf. vw generally have a reliability problem and ford's motors will melt if you tune them because they're being pushed from the factory I really felt like ford has lost it's way, but what toyota does is undertune all their motors to ensure a longer lifespan even their factories setup is focused towards ensuring reliability and I commend them for that, that's why I'm a toyota fan.
I'm only 18 years old I've loved cars since I was in diapers, and I want to become a fitter as to better understand the mechanics of these machines. But i'd love to become a car reporter, a real car reporter and cars.co.za is the right platform but I can't help feeling like they're missing something, eventhough they make great content.

Hilux don't have a V6 Diesel, so that's why they tuned the 4 cylinder of the Hilux to get plus- minus the same KW and Torque as the VW
But they have a V6 petrol so...

Mprinsgym hi, there are different naming conventions that are used, in this case it refers to the top end tuning chip that we used, which was supplied by DTE. Do you have any knowledge yourself in tuning vehicles?

I’ve got 5 Toyota Hilux 2.4 GD 6 SRX 4x4,S that pull trailers with mini skips loaded to a minimum of 3 tons doing 300km a day each on rough construction terrain 6 days a week and I’ve never had one problem in 3 years! And that’s only the 2.4! A 2.8 would do even better! Your argument is invalid!

When using a modded ( especially one that is only been on the market for a month) you should at least inform the viewers that your warranty will be voided.
@@eugenerossouw1886 I just phoned Toyota Malmesbury. They said it WILL void your warranty. Any aftermarket products WILL void your engine warranty. Even the freeflow exhaust alone WILL void your warranty.

Hi Johan, all DTE's products are easy to fit DIY 'Plug&Play' systems, so before taking the vehicle in for a service or checkup at the dealership, simply unplug them beforehand, this will alleviate any warranty concerns as they are 100% undetectable once removed, and thus your manufacturers warranty will remain in place.

2.8L Toyota cannot defeat 3.0L V6Amarok in speed. Not just possible may be in picking which is less than 10seconds. The rest only wish to see V6 vs V6
Over the weekend I was driving my Fiesta ST and a Hilux wanted to pass on my left side (I live in SA) I geared down and opened up and simply could not get away from it for the few seconds he was behind me. But it must have been something like this. Couldn't believe the power.

@@emilioquintinho6689 lol on you: it's a naturally aspirated petrol that will lose even tuned vs a standard amarok. Less torque in any case...Plus you can't gain much power with a n/a engine even with an ecu remap

Im just wonder what engine lifespan and all other items related to massive power increase will be with such higher outputs. There is a reason why Toyotas are detuned when straight out of the factory.
That was absolutely spot on. People keep saying hilux weak got no power vs competitors, but they all didn't know that Toyota make it detuned because to make hilux more reliable and durable than others. Now rival come with small displacement with huge powerfor me It's like a ticking time bomb. I'm scratching my head how long can it last.
@@O-Ben i did a mild tune on my old 2.5 Triton to rid it from its turbo lag, but the gains on the 2.8 Hilux i feel is too aggressive.

@@henkstols9326 yup.. But i think the tuner want to show that hilux engine can be tune with high power gain from it stock engine. Mild tune doesn't hurt much in the long run. I choose reliability than overpower pickup truck cause i use it as daily and for work too.

People stage 6 is just the tunes name, the Hilux isn't actually stage 6, that would be turbo upgrade and full exhaust, engine internals with NOS and weight reduction and rebuilt gearbox LOL this is just a plug in and play ECU unit that is called stage 6

I give that hilux 1 year before it breaks and there will be no warranty. Toyota aren't what they used to be but everyone can't see passed the brand.

I know a few guys who have had major issues with these new hiluxes. In my experience, they are overrated.
The older models were great for their time. I believe they have now been left behind since the new generation of dual cabs. If you still want to buy one, good for you. Do what you want. I wont be any time soon.

Except the 2.8 Toyota engines are having a class action as they are failing. My mate is on his second engine under warranty. Try tuning the V6 Diesel, and see what happens.

Ahora para trabajo duro de finca tampoco acá en Costa Rica no veo Amarok cargadas con 2 toneladas de papá o pejibayes chontaduros en Colombia se usa para pasear...para pasear en la ciudad me compro una Toyota Corolla hermosa y para el campo HI LUX

I agree 100% with you. I have never owned a Toyota but I have noticed that there is a full on onslaught against the brand from certain people...why? If they make good vehicles and people like them, then good for them.

We’re the guys that did the conversion, www.viperwheelandtyre.com and am surprised at all the negative comments towards Toyota, the bottom line is that Toyota has the track record to boast about, not the other brands. Thereby I’m not saying it is bad brands, rather, the opposite is true, but results speak very loud! We wanted to make the point that for only a R20K upgrade you get the same power output, and that’s not even over working the motor.

A standard Amarok is faster than a standard Hilux but a Hilux is a much better off road vehicle than an Amarok any day and will last longer than an Amarok

Si las dos versiones son stock, gana la amarok, pero hay dice que se tuneo el hilux no ves la ganancia en torque fue brutal por eso le gano no fue fingido, lo que pasó que el hilux no estaba stock saludos
