Justin, I hate TH-cam algorithm for not recommending enough your channel. I found yours only because of my first FPV drone, Avata 2. I watch travel vlogs mostly and my dream is to start something like this. Its discouraging that a channel as good as yours isn’t recommended as it should. I'm taking a big risk at the moment trying to pursue this full time. I just want to make the best content that I can, help peple and have fun along the way. Thanks for the kind words of support, really means a lot! Yeah these places are absolutely beautiful. A stark contrast to the concrete jungle most of us are used to. Thanks mate! 😃

I'm glad you're enjoying the Avata 2! I've got lots more helpful videos to come so keep you're eyes peeled and good luck with the new drone!
The pass through feature does have a narrow field of view, but for someone who wears glasses, it's very nice to be able to look around without having to put glasses on and then off again just to take a quick look around.
Totally agree. I've never flown FPV before, and it's so damn easy with this drone. A little more of a learning curve over my Mini Pro 4, which was the first drone I ever bought, but glad I dived in and got the Avata 2. It's a blast.
65 watt charger is a must, I was pretty shocked that my $1100 mini 4 pro didnt come with one. Thankfully the wife had an old 65 watt chromebook charger laying around. I did eventually buy a spare from Anker and it works great for my mini 4 pro, and I plan to use the same one for the Avata 2 when I get one.
Thank you for a very informative video. I was worried about the lance's two until a couple of hours ago I had a moment of genius. I cut the foam pad that came with the goggles so it will slide under the foam of the rubber light guard. Works like a charm! I'm going to put a piece of Velcro on the battery pad and the cut piece of pad so that they'll stick together and stay on my head while I'm wearing the goggles. This way I don't lose the pad/lens protectors.
An excellent and concise review. I`ve watched a few of your videos now and subscribed to your channel. With the Avata2, I think DJI has listened and fixed the main complaints of the original. Definitely appreciating the reduced noise levels, secure battery fitment and image quality. I was surprised about the omission of the goggles eyepiece cover. Can`t long exposure to blight sunlight damage the display? I would also like to see a package that includes the remote controller 3 with the fly more combo instead of the motion controller. I`ve been flying stabilised camera drones for a couple years now and I`d really like to make the leap to FPV, this seems like the perfect drone to fit the bill.
Thank you! I feel it necessary to share my thoughts in a concise but compete fashion. I also agree. The original avata was their first attempt at a cinewhoop, and this is a much improved aircaft in almost every way. It's less durable, yes, but lighter, and it flies much better, which is more important in my eyes. Yeah, I was shocked to open it up and find no lens protector. Very strange that they have not made one for the new goggles. Yeah, it would be nice, but I don't think it'll happen to be honest. I can see why they package it the way they do. It gives the new user a much easier learning curve into FPV. I just hope that future FPV drones will be compatible with the FPV3 radio. This is a very good choice to get into FPV. Manual flying takes some practice with any machine, but having the pause button will save a lot of people a lot of crashes. Another great option is to get a micro ready to fly kit like the emax tinyhawk freestyle 3. That thing is almost indestructible and will also teach you everything you need to know about manual flying if crashing is a concern. But the Avata is also a great first step into FPV because you can go step by step.
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Yes, I do like the progression you have with the Avata with the different flying modes and the pause button if you get into trouble. Keep the videos coming, I`m enjoying this channel! 👍
This is the most balanced review I've seen yet, good job! On the sound comparison you should have mentioned you're using a full sized GoPro, it would be quieter with O3 recording or a naked GoPro. I do agree however that it should be compared to something with a GoPro because the recording is just quite a bit better than O3. One negative for me is how it wobbles more than it probably should in wind, but maybe you haven't experienced it as much or just find it normal for whoops? For removing the sticks, I found it much easier to try to "turn" them on their sides than pulling at their top.
Hey! Yeah I just wanted to share exactly what I found. It's a great little cinewhoop. Yeah, I could've mentioned it but In reality, I never fly it without the Gopro because the O3 image is really not that good unless the lighting is perfect. So that's the config that it's flown in. Yeah I notice the wobble but It's not a major thing for me, all whoops wobble, some more than others so I'm not too concerned about it. The flight characteristics have otherwise been pretty impressive. If you push it too far it will get out of shape, but I've had whoops that couldn't dive without tumbling like crazy. So as this one goes, it's pretty good. Thanks for that tip with the sticks, so try and roll them out instead?
12:58 bro sounds like Jude Bellingham, especially here. "But it's fine to be honesttt". Thought of Bellingham after you said that and now you sound like Jude all the time after I realised. Anyway great video, loved the intro with that breathtaking footage and incredible color grading. Went over a lot of important factors and made sure the mention the negatives which most don't do these days. Amazing video Justin!
Hahaha, Jude Bellingham. I haven't had that one before 😂 Glad you liked the video! Yeah, I'm just going to tell it as it is. Some things are good, some are just okay, and some are bad. It's rare we get a perfect product these days, but the flaws are minor, and the overall product shines through. Have you had chance to fly the Avata 2 yet?
I tried an Avata 2 and took it back and bought an original Avata. The 2 was fine, but I am more into the fun of flying that serious photo / video work. The Avata is more durable, and repairable by the user. It's really not a design for long range fpv, so I'm fine with the 03 system, which itself is miles ahead of most other systems for fpv.
Thanks Justin, Found you recently after buying a Mini 4 Pro and I was looking for setting for the drone. Enjoy your content, loads of great info and an entertaining delivery. Your editing skills are excellent. Gives me something to aim to achieve in my own videos. Never entertained the thought of buying an Avarta 2 as I live in Australia and we can't use them here. Hopefully the rules will change and it will be a future purchase. Keep up the great content, looking forward to your next video.
Hey! That's great, I'm glad you found your way to the channel! Plenty of helpful stuff over here for the Mini 4 Pro. Ah, I'm just trying to keep improving in all aspects of making videos. I'm glad you like it, and it gives you some inspiration to create! Yeah, Australia is a funny one. Funny how they can sell a product that they technically say is illegal to use 🤔 I know lots of fpv guys from Australia, and I also flew FPV whilst there. As long as you're sensible and doing things safely, it's generally okay, and you won't get any bother. But it's a shame that they make it hard to enjoy your hobby. Hope things change and you can experience FPV! Thanks for your kind words 😃
I live in Aus and am thinking of buying Avata2. And it's surprising to know it's illegal here. Is it the FPV drone that's illegal or any drones? Will Avata2 not even be able to fly at all like due to geo-fencing?
@jamesh4746 Yes, tehnically, FPV is illegal due to silly legislation unless you're part of one of the few clubs around the country and fly at the designated field. But it's not being enforced. I know lots of FPV pilots in Aus and none have ever had any issues. If you're being sensible, you'll be fine. There's no geofencing for Australia. Only around airports etc. I find it strange how they can sell products to the public that are technically "illegal" to use. Seems silly. I would just fly safely and within all the other rules apart from the obvious vlos rule and not worry too much, but I understand people's concerns. I find it strange how they still maintain the fact you need visual line of sight with FPV when you're literally in the drone 🤷♂️ Rules made by people who have never used or fully understand the technology.
Hey David! I'm glad you like it over here. I try to keep it friendly, relatable and full of value. I always love to welcome new community members! Great to see you here! 😃
I agree with everything you said, although I haven’t got the full controller yet. You’re right about the position of the record button on the motion controller 3 l it is a pain to get to. Good thing that you can use the button on the goggles to do things as well, because trying to adjust things with the motion controller is still a bit hit and miss for me lol. Overall I think it’s absolutely a great drone, but then I’m not a freestyle expert, in fact I’m fairly average at manual mode, but I get by lol. Great review and very concise in your opinion of its ability. Cheers from Australia and have a great day mate.
Hi David! Yeah, the record button could definitely be easier to press. I also just end up using the goggles half the time, but it kind of defeats the object 😅 only minor things though to be honest, I really like the overall product. It's a very capable little drone and I think they did an excellent job on improving on the Avata 1. Quieter, lighter, flies better, flies longer. I'm a very happy chap. Ah, have a good one down under mate! 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT , thanks Justin , yeah it’s only as you said, just minor things like that but with time and practice it will become second nature to you and I. This is definitely a vast improvement over the previous one and an absolute ripper of an effort by DJI to create a better product that is more than just a minor improvement over the previous one. Cheers for the feedback and thanks again for a great review. Got woken by one of the dogs here and saw the notification and decided to take a couple of minutes to reply rather than in the morning when I was half asleep lol. Have a good day/ night and evening lol.
Love your content and presentation style..and just subscribed. The only thing I kinda was not to pleased with, is the use of that over used sound track at the beginning. It shows up from so many people and it’s stale now IHMO. There are tons of unique royalty free plans that have something that could be used to set yourself apart from the herd.
Thank you! haha yeah I know it's getting a bit over used now, but I wanted to give it one final hoorah. I've got lots of fresh music ready to go for future videos 😃
BTW. I was lucky enough to live in Bali (Ubud homeowner:-) 21 years ago when there was literally no traffic, except on the ByPass. Ok, a little bit also on the Monkey Forest loop
@@manfrombkk Damn, I bet that was muh less annoying to get around. The traffic here is so bad these days. I'm doing a lot of filming in my villa's garden (one of the main reasons I chose this place) I just head out early in the mornings if i want to avoid the traffic, but even by 8am its pretty awful 😂
Yes, i've flown it rather friskily and at no point did i wish it had more power. It's got a nicely balanced powertrain, so you can do some light acro moves and recover from split-s and dive manouevres without any issue. It's not going to do hardcore freestyle, but I have no intention of doing that, and it's not what it was designed for 😃
This was filmed in Ubud, Bali. This is just the start, I have some beautiful locations coming up in future videos that blow some of these out of the water. Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you! Yep, I like to just say it how it is, cut out the fluff, and say what I think and what I've experienced. I'm really enjoying flying this drone. Are you planning to get the Avata 2? 😃
Hey! I thought i'd seen the dji virtual fly was supported but it looks like it isn't. My bad, so many compatibility specifics with these products. I reccomend trying another sim and learaning manual that way. Thank you! 😃
@andrewkondrat Hey! The controller will work with all major sims, you can't use the goggles with them unfortunately but you can use the radio with all the main sims. Liftoff, Velocidrone etc
Awesome video. Nice work! One question. I am familiar with Dji’s other drones. When flying indoor or low to ground outdoor with the Avata 2 and say you are close to an airport or some no fly zone does it lock you out from flying like it does on the Mavic 2?
Yep still the same, you an still apply to unlock the area like onther DJI drones, but some areas will be geolocked and you will need to go through the unlocking process online with DJI 😃
I got it as my first drone for my photography, it's a great drone from my experience, although, I tested range and I don't know whether it was because I had default settings, when the drone reached a certain point, it lost signal and landed in a very awkward place. I walked closer, tried to take off, it got stuck and then upside down. After that, I used the mode to flip it over, the drone wouldn't take off as it was at an angle. I only discovered when I got back home about the _'find my drone'_ feature using the mobile phone app, managed to locate it using the coordinates and the map, which is a lifesaver. I'm a bit confused though because, from where I was at maybole beach, I flew the drone down to Culzean Country Park and that's where it lost signal, doesn't add up as I can't say that was anywhere near close to 13km. Nonetheless, I had fun flying it about in relatively dullish light as the sun was setting at that beach the following day wh I collected it. I think the only technique I've yet to master is the camera being pointed at a subject and rotating around it, something I'm going to need to practice. Great video nonetheless, and an interesting take.
Thats awesome. MAybe you had a similar thing happen to me where the drone didn't maintain the RTH altitude and then landed somewhere elsee. Yeah 13km is just marketing speak. It's technically capable of this but you would need perfect conditions and you would need to be in a perfectly uncongested signal environment. Yep the best way to get used to that is practice. You'll get the hang of it in no time! Thank you! 😃
@@mobilelegendsmoskov893, yeah, I think like Justin mentioned, the realistic distance here in Europe is around that, probably to fall in line with the regulations here in the UK namely where you're legally only allowed to fly within your sight or something? Either way, even if you reach a particular location, you can still reach a fair distance. I feel my problem was when it lost connection, it attempted to return to home, but I stupidly had it on default settings, so instead of the drone raising to an altitude suitable for returning, it crashed into a tree. Overall though, with CE that we have it's certainly not what it's said to be. I'm not really overly disappointed though, I would much rather know my limits for safety precautions. The last thing I'd want is losing the drone.
At 10:05 I'm not sure it's true what you're saying here. "If you loose video signal you also loose the RC signal." Both are indicated in the goggles and the video signal always goes first so you still have control over the drone. I had a situation where I flew behind a building and the video was lost but I kept flying the drone pure on feeling and it came out fine the other side and then the video was restored. I still had a connection with the drone all the time.
There are situations where you can lose video and still have a radio signal. I've experienced this as well. But I was being more generalised as most of the time you will lose both. In your situation, it's possible that you lost connection, but the drone didn't failsafe before it came out the other side. There are a few seconds between losing connection and the drone going into failsafe. It is a strange one, though. They must be transmitting both via different antennas, and I've noticed that in some orientations, the drone will drop video signal a lit but not radio, and vice versa. Personally, I like the redundancy of a separate radio link, but this is what we've got, and it works fine for the most part. It's good to hear about your experience!
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Aah okay so if the video connection is lost for a longer time it will kick into failsafe mode. I didn't know that. Learned something today. Thanks for clearing that up. 😎👍👍
@EdEditz Yeah, that's it! The drone will continue to fly in its current orientation for a couple of seconds until failsafe activates. Hopefully, before anything goes wrong. Then the drone will stop, retrace its flight path for 50m, and then perform RTH
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Retrace its flightpath. It just blows my mind the technology they put into these drones. Makes you wonder what will be on the market 10 years from now. :)
Hi, sorry to hear that! 😞 the Avata 2 will still do the death roll, but it takes a lot more to make it happen. It's much more stable and way less prone to experience the yaw tumble.
Hey! That's awesome. I'm glad you're enjoying it too! Yep, I'm a Yorkshire man, although I left the UK in November 2021 to travel and am now living the nomadic lifestyle 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Nice thank you for taking the time to reply. S Yorks here! Lived in Hong Kong for 6 years in the early 90's now back in Gods country with my Chinese wife :)
mind if i ask you a quick question please? thinking of getting the RC3 but can you customise sticks do you know please? would like left stick to move backwards/forwards, strafe left/right and right stick to up/down/left/right movements.
That's awesome, I've never been to Hong kong, but it might be a destination or later tis year! Yeah you can change the contoller modes. You'd want Mode 3 for those controls. 😃
Yeah, that sounds about right. VR tends to have a much wider fov so you feel more immersed. But you can only look in one direction at once and take in so much of what you can see, so there's a limit to how big a screen should realistically appear with FPV.
The double-tap on whatever side hasn’t really worked for me at all! Intermittently and frustrated! SO? What did I discover? The side button on the motion controller double-clicking does work for that perfectly, and is ALL I use now! Haven’t heard anyone talk about that feature! (Mostly to find stuff under/around my position, and to find a button on the controller! I stopped trying to 2X tap the side! NOT dependable at all!
Thanks mate! Around there, I was using a tropical forest background sound to get some animal and general sounds. Then I added some wind, changing the volume at different points to create more of a whoosh, and also some rustling leaves doing the same with the volume to make it sound like you're passing by the rustling leaves. My sound design just seems to get more and more in depth the more I edit 😅 it takes a substantial amount of time on a little sequence to make it sound good haha. Hope this helps!

How the hell can you complain about the speed of a random sub-par charger you've found around? Every laptop is USB-C nowaday and their chargers are 45-100w
I was sooo guilty of this when I was younger 😂 luckily I stoped many years ago and my nails have recovered but I still like to keep them short. I hate the feeling of typing on a keyboard and feeling my nail touch the key first 😬 So I have to pay the price of SD struggles 😅
So you made a few videos...had it like a week..and now you are trying to sell it and do an honest review. it's made of plastic...costs 1000 bucks with one battery and a wii remote that doesn't let you fly as you really should.. has REMOTE ID so good luck flying anywhere worth it. will break in most crashes do to plastic parts. if you really want to fly drones build your own...it's not hard these days and makes you look like a king while flying... plus 99% of the AVATA 2 users will quit after a little while when they get tired of FPV....they took the easy way in, and now most if not all will be done with it before long. Bias reviews are what this is....because you want to sell it, so you will say anything to make it look better than it is in order to make money off of people.
Hey! I'm not trying to sell anything here, just a dude trying to give his opinion on a new product. Any links are just to help people find the products. I don't have any affiliate links here, and I'm trying to give a real-world review. Yes, it's plastic. Yes, it's expensive, but it's got a lot of features that we just don't get on home build quads without a lot of headaches, and that's worth something to me and other people. Remote ID is not something we really have a choice over. It's a law that manufacturers have to abide by, and there's not a whole lot we can do about that. Some will quit, some will continue and get a real 5 inch. Then get even more hooked. I mean, that happens with a lot of things, you try it, maybe you like it, maybe not. But to say this is a biased review to get sales is baffling. I bought it myself, made this to try and help other make an informed choice if it's for them, or not. This video has no way of generating me any money other than ad revenue. I'm just an honest guy trying to help people out. Thanks for your input, but I think you are assuming some things that just aren't true.
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Well said. I love to tinker with stuff and modify it and make planes fly better. I remember having a Blade MCX2, little coaxial heli for in the house. It had a fly bar, I would cut parts of the weights of to make it a little more unstable so you could trow it to get it to fly forward at twice the speed. But when it comes to my first time flying FPV, I did not want to risk having so sodder and fuck up stuff I just ordered. Because it's hard to order stuff where I live. No, I wanted something that could fly out of the box. I had just bought the 03 air unit and was trying to get goggles v2 or 2 when the avata showed up on Amazon. I knew that this is exactly what I had been looking for. I eventually did find somebody to sell it locally here and within 2 weeks from it being released I was flying it. the out of the box experience for somebody knew to FPV is amazing. 12 years ago I decided to wait before doing FPV ... to have some fun first flying rc planes normally. And that was a good decisions, the fidelity you get today, you did not have this 12 years ago. Sure low latency analog latency is cool. BUt I just want to cruise and look at stuff and feel like a bird on weed, flying relaxed in the sky with no worries.
Great review! I just started FPV after 12 years of flying rc planes. First with a betafpv aquila 16 in the house and then a week later the avata 2 arrived. What an absolutely amazing experience!
Get. A life :))
Yeah that makes sense, The original Avata is much more durable so if you're just flying for fun then that's fine too!
I cut the packing foam to fit in the goggles.
Nice vid - like you said... "Fly it as intended" and this drone will serve you well and more.
Yep very true. This is the thing a lot of people are forgetting. For what this was designed for it works great 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT spot on! I think people need to experience some self built 5" quad reality to fully appreciate the space the avata fills 😂
Where did you film this footage? Wherever you live the scenery is beautiful.
Hey! This is filmed in Bali. I've only just arrived here so and I've got some real treats of locations coming up! This is just the start 😃

I'm doing a lot of filming in my villa's garden (one of the main reasons I chose this place) I just head out early in the mornings if i want to avoid the traffic, but even by 8am its pretty awful 😂
great review, thank you!
one question, does the drone have enough "power" to not just fly for cinematic footage but also for fun purposes?
Yes, i've flown it rather friskily and at no point did i wish it had more power. It's got a nicely balanced powertrain, so you can do some light acro moves and recover from split-s and dive manouevres without any issue. It's not going to do hardcore freestyle, but I have no intention of doing that, and it's not what it was designed for 😃
Where did you film this footage? Whenever you live scenery is beautiful.
This was filmed in Ubud, Bali. This is just the start, I have some beautiful locations coming up in future videos that blow some of these out of the water. Thanks for watching 😃
That record button is so hard to find!
right !!!! hahahahha
Great information. Looks like lots of fun, thanks
You're welcome! It's a lot of fun! I highly reccomend it!
Excellent review. Straight to what is important, and you taught me a few things about this Avata 2 that others didn't cover. Subscribing!
Thank you! Yep, I like to just say it how it is, cut out the fluff, and say what I think and what I've experienced. I'm really enjoying flying this drone. Are you planning to get the Avata 2? 😃
Where is the Avata 2 simulator at DJI? I don't find it. The one there is from Avata and is not compatible.
Congratulations on your channel!!
Hey! I thought i'd seen the dji virtual fly was supported but it looks like it isn't. My bad, so many compatibility specifics with these products. I reccomend trying another sim and learaning manual that way. Thank you! 😃
What sim would work? Did you find any which works with the controller 3 and google? Or without google an so on? Anything just not to crash :)))
@andrewkondrat Hey! The controller will work with all major sims, you can't use the goggles with them unfortunately but you can use the radio with all the main sims. Liftoff, Velocidrone etc
ok I order one and never flew a drone so Im looking forward to getting into it
You're going to love it! Let me know how you get on! 😃
Wonderful balanced review!! 😃👍🐾🐈⬛👏🍻
Thank you Chris! 👌🍻
Great review Justin and good to hear Avata 2 is definitely an upgrade from the Avata. Very informative and now just need to start saving Like from me.
Hey Shaun! Thanks, mate! Yeah, the Avata 2 is definitely a big improvement over the Avata. Yep, save those pennies and enjoy the FPV experience 😁
Thank you! 😃
Fcc or ce? In europe for me the range is max 1km in ce, but realistically 400m
How did yout laugh when you were flying around yourself with the VR headset on 🤣🤣🤣
Haha, I did the first few times I flew FPV, and then I just became numb to seeing myself in the goggles 😂
Just lost my drone in the pacific ocean because my original one death rolled… is this still a problem with the Avata 2?
Hi, sorry to hear that! 😞 the Avata 2 will still do the death roll, but it takes a lot more to make it happen. It's much more stable and way less prone to experience the yaw tumble.
Great review thank you. Just got the Avata 2 and so far it’s amazing! Love your videos btw 👍. Fellow northerner?

That's awesome, I've never been to Hong kong, but it might be a destination or later tis year! Yeah you can change the contoller modes. You'd want Mode 3 for those controls. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT ahh that’s awesome! Thank you so much! 😊
Fov when looking through looks like looking at a 100inch screen on mine is that right im use to vr so looked small to me
Yeah, that sounds about right. VR tends to have a much wider fov so you feel more immersed. But you can only look in one direction at once and take in so much of what you can see, so there's a limit to how big a screen should realistically appear with FPV.
thanks
The double-tap on whatever side hasn’t really worked for me at all! Intermittently and frustrated! SO? What did I discover? The side button on the motion controller double-clicking does work for that perfectly, and is ALL I use now! Haven’t heard anyone talk about that feature! (Mostly to find stuff under/around my position, and to find a button on the controller! I stopped trying to 2X tap the side! NOT dependable at all!
Nice video thanks! What SFX are you using at 00:54 for exemple?
Thanks mate! Around there, I was using a tropical forest background sound to get some animal and general sounds. Then I added some wind, changing the volume at different points to create more of a whoosh, and also some rustling leaves doing the same with the volume to make it sound like you're passing by the rustling leaves. My sound design just seems to get more and more in depth the more I edit 😅 it takes a substantial amount of time on a little sequence to make it sound good haha. Hope this helps!

I only fly with motion controller and head tracking. I do have the controller 3 but first I want to fly low risk to get my money worth of fun. Then I will start flying manual.

I'm learning the controls of the RC before I take it outside. But I think flying it inside like I did might help. Outside will be a lot easier. Only about 15 crashes to catch that one decent run I put up in my apartment. Outside more room for error. Great damn hobby.
