I've ordered one, can't wait. Expected delivery tomorrow. I was wondering do I have to get some kind of license in the UK and has the speed been reduced in this country?
Brilliant video, thank you. very informative......I got into drones with the Mini 3 Pro flymore and only had it a month and they released the Mini4 pro, which I bought, so I haven't used the Mini 3 Pro since, just had it as a backup.....having the goggles 3 and Motion 3 and trying out FPV on the mini 4, I am tempted to get shot of the 3 and use the money to buy the Avata 2, what do you reckon, sure you'll probably say a no brainer lol, but interested to see what others think who own the Avata 2. :-)
If you’re not crashing your not flying 😂 great video Ian looks like you had fun. I tried it out recently and it was my first time flying with goggles and it was amazing fun ❤
The most fun you have ever had flying a drone. That is quite an endorsement, Ian. Goggles = Vertigo for me. Perhaps in a previous life when I was performing at The Globe I should have been in more blindfolded scenes. I always declined William when he offered those parts. I enjoyed your overview of the Avata 2. Take care and happy flying, buddy.
Well George, I must admit to liking it when I leant on a gate post for this one... But it's like a boat; once you get your sea legs, you're fine and dandy. Impressed re the Globe!! :)
Hi George - ditto vertigo for me, always lean against my car, or use a camping chair. I find the Avata 2, with the Goggles 3 and its PiP live view, allows me to get grounded and balanced again, but still propo myself up all the time.
Great video ! I really cannot decide on whether to buy the DJI Mini 3 Pro, or the Mini 4 Pro, and now the Avata 2 is now running through my head, too. The only thing that I don‘t like about the Avata models is that the weight is over 250g, and that means all the hassle with registration etc. I‘m going to just take my time in deciding now, as it is really not easy.. 🤷🏼♂️
Many thanks Ian for your presentation. I really value your opinion as you are in the UK and are flying with the CE power levels, so we get a true perspective of what we can expect in terms of range taking into account obstructions etc. watching reviews from the US guys, whilst interesting, is hardly relevant in the UK or EU. When you get a chance it would be good if you could do a comparison between the Avata 1 and the 2 over the same route to show that advantage of new transmission system over the previous one.
Thanks Ian. I was put off the Avata 1 largely due to your review and the issue of when it went behind a small tree the signal broke up. The initial indications from UK/EU flyers are the Avata 2 is much better, which if true will persuade me to buy one. Regards John.
Hi, Ian. I am really enjoying the new Avata 2 and the changes they did to turtle mode you discuss at the end of your video. I did find out however real quick if the grass is think and a good 2" high that drone will not be going anywhere if it crashes there. My only complaint regarding the new drone isn't the drone itself, but the new Goggles 3. I do hope soon they offer an option for some small cushion instead of that thin rubber that is around your face to make it not only more comfortable because it will help to distribute the pressure a little bit and not leave it all on the forehead which I know I cannot be the only that isn't a total fan of that. Maybe, offer a little more clearance between the eyes and the lens of the user so our eyes are not smeared up against the lens and we don't have to keep adjusting everything from time to time. I do notice I get some of the black rubber showing up on one of the sides of my eyes when wearing the Goggles 3. The features are great and for someone that doesn't posses 20/20 vision being able to see a digital display is a nice touch. The Avata 2 is such a huge upgrade to me compared to the OG Avata. Besides batteries ejecting I'd get that warning every so often battery needs to be updated and I need to drain the battery below 10%. The Avata 2 does fly much better in windy conditions especially in manual mode and the sleek design is a nice touch! Thank you for the video my friend!
Yeah, tutrle mode is good but has its limitations.... As for the goggles 3, yes, this is quite subjective and down to personal comfort; I found adjusting the height of the strap on the back of my head, along with adjusting the turn grip tightener eventually got me sorted
Excellent review as always. This is my first FPV and I hope I like it as always with DJI it is quite expensive. I also for the first time bought 2 years care refresh so I can be more adventurous……Here’s hoping
I would love to buy the avata but it's just so damn expensive, I have the mavic pro and that still amazes me and does everything I want for photography but I may have to buy a second hand avata 1 to see if I will use it often enough..... What's it like with English weather?
We talked about this drone last night on Tammy Jeans live feed. Mixed reviews but generally good ones. It's definitely a gateway to FPV. I may have to look into getting one. Thank you, Ian. Cheers, Brendan
When I see FPV, I usually click on by. However, you always produce excellent videos, and you made a compelling case for the Avata 2. I can see how it has a huge fun factor. Personally, I am focused on the flying camera aspect of drones and refining my photography and video skills. I am interested in pairing the goggles with the Mini 4 Pro and specifically the adjustments available for those of us that wear glasses. The Drone Mask never worked for me, I experienced a lot of eye strain trying to focus on the different areas of the screen. Having goggles that work for me, in the sunny skies of TX would be a huge benefit. Thanks, Ian!
Well, the Goggles 2 definitely work with the Mini 4 Pro but you also have to get used to the Motion Controller as you can't use the standard remote with the goggles 2. When I flew in Arizona, tree shade was my friend :)
I have a mini 3 pro with Integra Goggles. My eyesight is bad (-11 and astigmatism) but I got some replacement lens inserts from HONSVR. You feed in your prescription and they arrive a week later. Advantages of using a mini with goggles over an Avata:
Great review and info ! Thanks :-) - am considering an Avata 2 for my first drone and wondering if it is necessary to register it for my own recreational flying in Rural Oregon - 15 miles away from any airports or military bases
Hi Ian, i have a couple of questions/comments i hope either you or anyone else can help, first im a glasses wearer, what are they like with specs on, more uncomfortable maybe? And the other thing I'd like to mention is that i own 2 mavics, and as far as i can remember, you can lock the gimball (electronically) and that gives the same aerial views, but i, like you, are flying on eggshells scared that a may crash either of my expensive drones, so this avata is certainly worth considering. Thanks for another great vid 👍
You can adjust the focus of each lens to allow for glasses to be taken off. Not much space to wear glasses. And setting the Mavic to FPV mode doesn't give the same smooth true fpv experience that you get with a real fob drone, and yeah, you wouldn't want to crash the Mavic...
Great informative video as ever. My pet niggle is framerate. I tried my monitor on 50, 60 and even 24Hz to try and make your flying footage smooth but it still had the jerky/stuttery motion. My best guess is you videoed at 60Hz on the drone but edited/produced/exported your video at 25Hz (or some other mis-matched combination). I'd like to see some of your footage in its native framerate. I guess I'm in the minority for noticing this kind of thing as I watch TH-cam on a 50" TV and most people are not going to notice much watching on a phone screen . Thanks again.
You're spot on. I think the footage was recorded in 30fps but my studio outputs are all 25 fps. Also remember TH-cam compresses the guts out of everything too.
Fantastic way to strt my day, watching your experiences with the Avata 2, (still giggling at your pronounciation), and it closely mirrors my own a few weeks ago, though your sights and surrounds are exponentially pretier than mine. Great video, as always, and straight to the point. Enjoyed this tremendously, thank Ian!
Brilliant vid Ian - could listen to you enthuse about this all day long 😊 I have been really trying to resist the call of the Avata 2, just because of the faff of having to have a spotter all the time - any advice? (Besides get a friend 😂)
That looks so much fun. If I had the time I would love to get one just for the mad fun of it. Great video as usual Ian thanks for sharing. Keep the videos coming.😅👍👍
How well do you think the 'anti-crash' by flying too low would work over water? Perhaps with light wave motion? Could it cope with that or would it become a unmanned submersible?😮
Thanks for the review. I have no previous experience with FPV but I’m interested in learning how to pilot this manually. Do you think with some time in a Sim it’s possible?
As always mate, a great review. The flip modes can make for some great post production edit transitioning from one clip to the next if it is stitched and masked well. Hope you are well Ian x always from New Zealand.
Heya pal, a couple questions as im from the UK too. *how is the signal on this one vs the old one as I used to go behind a tree or bush that was close and lose signal? *Does this one still have the bank issue the first Avata had when you turn hard and it would randomly fall out the sky or fly away? ta mate
So i have the integra goggles and motion 2 controller which I use to fly my Mini 3, can i use them with the Avata 2 and how easy is it to switch between drones? Or is it worth getting the new goggles and controller at quite a large expense? Thanks ian, as always great video.

I would strongly recommend the other way round..... Your wife may get sea sick 😉. But as long as the iPad runs the fly app then yes, she can watch it whilst you are using the goggles
It definitely isn't improved in all areas. We have already seen evidence it is not quite as durable as the Avata 1, which comes with a double whammy since it is far less repairable. A damaged duct is a return to DJI repair for the Avata 2 for most people sadly.
@@IaninLondon trust me, try it. Get the manual controller and fly some sims. Nothing else like it. You’ve had only a taste of the experience and already love it!

We have already seen evidence it is not quite as durable as the Avata 1, which comes with a double whammy since it is far less repairable. A damaged duct is a return to DJI repair for the Avata 2 for most people sadly.
By the way... It's pronounced a - VA - ta... 😲 Like Navada...
Yeah, I keep trying to pronounce it right but the official DJI videos keep pulling me back to the Avatar movie pronunciation 😉
Can you fly it without wearing those goggles.
Yes, you can fly without wearing goggles.
You cant limited the speed of a drone in manual.
*if you crash impossible to fix need to sent to DJI 200€ for fix it .... BAD NEW!*
Did you see how many times I crashed? And the crash into the stone wall at high speed did no damage either
@@IaninLondon payed by dji I presume
No, I bought the Avata 1 and that's the one I crashed in Malta into the wall at high speed. No real damage... No repair needed
@@IaninLondon wait and see
Pronouce the name right!!..it isnt a film with blue people!!
I struggled 😉
influencers that don’t give measurements in anything other than metric I do not subscribe to or watch I left early on in the video
Almost all my videos are in imperial and metric... This time I'm just quoting the official specs.... Now off you trot...
Get a proper one and develop some real skills. Anyone can fly by wire.
This video is not aimed at experienced FPVers like you squire..... ;)
@@IaninLondon trust me, try it. Get the manual controller and fly some sims. Nothing else like it. You’ve had only a taste of the experience and already love it!
