I've noticed what really helps me on not punching a trigger is to focus on the target, not the pin. It will help with the whole target panic situation.
Your brain can only have one thought at a time. It must be on execution of the release aid. When you drive you don’t have to stare at the road to stay in the middle, it just happens. When you aim your brain will put it in the center. Just focus on moving through your release aid. Aiming takes care of itself.
@@keithmather2842it’s the opposite when shooting a firearm. Most instructors including the military the doctrine is to focus on the reticle vs the target.
Thanks Chris for clarifying the difference between the various styles of releases out on the market. I’ve seen so many people swear up and down how much one particular release is better than the other. When in reality, it basically boils down to personal preference, and more importantly, how consistent one must be to make it work for them. As a coach, I see a lot of young archers rave about the latest, and greatest “ gimmicks “ when it comes to something new in the archery world, and it just basically boils down to what you mentioned…..consistency of the push/pull and executing the shot. Great product review Brotha……and like I always tell my students, archery should be simple, fun, and exciting. Or the ole saying says K.IS.S. ( Keep It Simple Silly ) 😎🙏🏹🏹👍
What my dad showed me with archery hunting. ALWAYS BUY 2 releases for compound or 2 cocking ropes if you are using a crossbow. And then practice with both so if you loose one you always have a backup in your case/ pack if you would some how lose the 1st one
Great job Chris. The Wiseguy is an awesome release. I have used both the Wiseguy and the Keeton. However, I prefer a Spot Hogg Keeton for the simple fact that you have more to hold on too.
The Stan SoleX is the best index relase on the market. I went from spothogg to a STAN. Feels like a gun trigger. Soo much custom settings can be done to it.
Yup! This has been my go to wrist strap release since Carter discontinued the Quickie 2. I’ve never found one that I has that larger profile where I feel like I’m holding something where you can get the release on the razors edge of tension and travel. Love it!
Great video! I have tried allot of diferent releases, but this one for hunting and tree stand is my go to go! Never fails or make strange noice.. ;) Keep it up! Cheers from Spain
Trigger feel is very personal. As a long-time firearms shooter and hunter, I much prefer a trigger similar to my Anschutz Biathlon rifle or my F-class target rifles, with a little take-up so you can feel that you're on the trigger before reaching the "wall" and the sear break. ( it gets cold up here in Canada in hunting season and your fingertips can lose sensitivity when they're chilled. ) Also adds just a tiny bit of safety and forgiveness on taking a shot. ( Scott S2 release is my fav for adjustability and feel.)
Amazon for archery is a bold statement. Ordered the ultra view bee real grip for my phase 4 and it took almost 2 weeks and seemed to be lost in shipping.
I liked my old Wiseguy until the target panic set in. It's just way too sensitive. I got to the point where I'd be afraid to touch it which caused bad habits. I now shoot a B3 Hawk with the flex connector and love it. I can wrap my finger around it deep and not worry about it going off. This lets me get set and pull through my shot which has helped me a ton.
Thank you for making this video. I'm returning to archery hunting after several decades. I stumbled on your video and it convinced me to step away from my three finger release to try a hook trigger release with my old (maybe ancient) Stemmler Silencer bow. I just picked up my release today and am excited to get practicing. Thank you again! I really enjoy your presentation and appreciate how you approach things! Any advice on bow sights? I've never shot with one (I was always a natural/point shooter because as a kid I couldn't afford bow sights).
I shoot the Spot Hogg Tuff Guy. The trigger can be set a lot heavier than the Wise Guy, and that helped me with target panic and helped me to start using back tension. My shooting has improved a lot. My only wish is that it had the single hook like the Wise Guy.
While this is a great starter release for hunting, Chris hits the nail on the head @9:12; no tension adjustment. This release is way HOT even at it's longest travel. The Carter Like Mike 2 is now my favorite hunting trigger finger release. It does not have travel adjustment, only tension, and you can make the tension super high (cold) to allow you to wrap your finger and start pulling your whole hand through with tension. My vote for Best Trigger Release is Carter Like Mike 2.
Bingo. Same trigger I use (like mike) In order for me to settle into my backtension I need to have a fair amount of trigger tension. To light of a trigger is very tough for me to shoot.
I developed target panic shooting an index so I bought a UV button and started from scratch developing a surprise release. I do think the index is better for hunting and I was able to develop a surprise release using the index although not as ideal as the button. I wrap my finger around the trigger, keep the tension firm then pull with back tension until the shot goes off, never commanding the shot. My peep location changes drastically when I switch though so it's basically one of the other.
I think if i ever went back to wrist style id get the Carter two shot. Its a triple sear release and allows for a less (hyper sensitive) trigger. i like being able to set my trigger finger with some amount of pressure to the first crease and not worry about premature triggering. Thats one of the big reasons i havent shot one in years. They are just to sensitive for my taste.
Some years ago, they sent me the wrong inserts with my shafts, not once but twice, on two different orders. As I live in Italy, this is a problem, because shipping costs would have been superior to the cost of the right inserts. I try to stay away from them, unless I need items they have, and that I can't find in my Country.
Great video as always. Knew you would not be able to wrap your finger round first time using it 😄 Have one and found it has two settings - hot and stupidly hot. But it's a great, consistent release. Very clean break on the shot and simple to use.
I've never used a quick release before and I just bought a bow that came with one. I have a bunch of questions about my 2 bows. But don't want to make this any longer than it already is
I started shooting it when it got comp to me from BPS ORLANDO @2010 and absolutely sold every strap released I had before it then lost it left it at a outdoor comp on the table and have been wanting since to buy but every shop I walk in never carry it I'm a buy on spot guy don't rly do amazon
I try not to punch the trigger. Part of my process is to draw with tension behind the trigger. As I'm focusing on the target , I'm moving my finger to rest on top of the trigger. When ready to shoot my finger has less distance to travel now, thus creating a "controlled surprise" shot.
Good stuff! Any benefits going from trigger to button style for hunting? I use a “short n sweet” but see a ton of the other styles now in the woods. Thanks.
This release has been my absolute favorite!! BUT!!! I have had multiple failures from this thing as im pulling back it will fire. I have called spot hogg and told them it apparently gets dirt inside the mechanical area where it locks they told m to clean it out and i have oiled it and it works for awhile then starts back up sadly enough ive put it away just way to risky
Growing up my whole life in central PA, it’s like nails on a chalk board hearing how you pronounce Lancaster. Time to call up PJ Riley for some tips lol.
I enjoy the unboxing anything to do with R3. I enjoy watching. I think you do a very good job on anything that you're doing just keep up the good work. 13:14
i like the tuff guy cuz of the jaw. i know the wise guy may be faster at getting the d loop. but the jaw make the d loop release straight out of the release. the wise guy and others like it i hear guys having to adjust there sights cuz they are now shooting left a lil bit. think about it. the string is moving so fast at release that d loop doesnt clear the release fast enought. it almost rolls off or slides to the left. listen to dudley when he first shows the back strap. its the same still of hook.
Good review. After watching this review I decided to splurge out on a true ball execution and I love it. The tension is very adjustable and I like it very cold. I weighed it and the tension required is 0.8lb. I might experiment to see how stiff it will go. That's one metric that I would love the manufacturers to include. Minimum tension and maximum tension, in pounds.
I was recently told that in order to switch between a back tension/button release and a trigger style, you have to change the peep and the d loop. Is this true?
Bro. You sound like your allergies are hitting you or you’re getting sick. I learned to check me and my son’s triggers for the sensitivity. Between this and a video from Dudley about peep height, I think it will help with some of our issues in consistency. Thank you for the video. No matter what you put out I’ll watch it so have fun. Hope you feel better.
As a long time trigger release shooter that is in need of a new release I'm curious if I've been tossing up between this release or taking the time to learn a thumb button or hinge style for 3d shooting
I had one . Hair trigger. If you like slapping trigger , its great . No you can’t adjust that really. It definitely is a crisp trigger though. Very comfortable too.
I sold it and got stan solex . Adjustable tension so you can use back tension but it takes practice as with any trigger release, especially index finger
Tru ball execution is a way better index release. I went from the wise guy to the execution and it's far superior, if you don't pull through your shot with an index DO NOT GET THIS, ITS 100% target panic, and setting yourself up for failure, at first uts not bad but after a month I could barly get on target. Switched to the tru ball execution and solved, not a super heavy trigger but you can set your finger on the trigger and pull through and fell the trigger start to go, and you can stop to let down if need be.
Typically there are a few things that will change as you are changing your anchor point. Go to a bow shop if you switch. They will help you get it all dialed in if you switch. Archery is a precision sport so focus a lot on your anchor points, form and not punching. Coming from someone who had to learn this the hard way
I like the pinchers personally the hook makes me think it's pushing it to one side when it comes off and the pinchers let go at the same time. Just my brain everyone's brain thinks different 👍🏼🤠🇨🇦
My neighbor had a wise guy lock up on him on a bull. What are the odds of shooting thousands of arrows all summer and it fails on the one time you’re trying to shoot a critter. Spot hogg sent him a new release but the mental damage was done.
I've noticed what really helps me on not punching a trigger is to focus on the target, not the pin. It will help with the whole target panic situation.
Just like a gun.
Exactly, also watching the arrow hit the target through the sight. Follow through.
Your brain can only have one thought at a time. It must be on execution of the release aid. When you drive you don’t have to stare at the road to stay in the middle, it just happens. @@brianmalick2946good thing if your making a surprise shot your not gonna be able to watch your arrow through your sight

Yep, been doing that for 20 years...
Also good to rotate using them both so they break in evenly
Great job Chris. The Wiseguy is an awesome release. I have used both the Wiseguy and the Keeton. However, I prefer a Spot Hogg Keeton for the simple fact that you have more to hold on too.
I also learned from a pro archer to wrap your finger around and into the release and not use the tip. made a world of difference when i got use to it.
The Stan SoleX is the best index relase on the market. I went from spothogg to a STAN. Feels like a gun trigger. Soo much custom settings can be done to it.
I use to shoot that release. Great release! Trigger travel is adjustable and it does in fact have a boa wrist strap. Awesome vid, Chris!

Hands down best release I have used. It greatly helped with my accuracy. Would definitely recommend it.
My favorite release, it has a very sensitive trigger but is well made and super clean break every time.
Amazon for archery is a bold statement. Ordered the ultra view bee real grip for my phase 4 and it took almost 2 weeks and seemed to be lost in shipping.
Sounds like amazon at times🤣 2 day prime is far from it anymore

everyone loves cameron hanes
It's my favorite release. I also use a backhand thumb release as well. My wiseguy is the other style (barslide) for depth adjustment.
Lancaster shipping is way too high, Podium gets my business
Shorten up that strap, wrap your finger around the trigger and fire it with back tension! Thanks Randy Ulmer for this great tip for hunters.

Been shooting with the Wise Guy since I bought my Lift 33 in July. Interested in getting the UV button to try it but I absolutely love the Wise Guy
Love it for a year but once I went too nock2it thumb release my shooting got so much better easier for me to repeat
I ordered cut to length arrow shafts from Lancaster on a Friday evening and got the order Monday morning...couldn't have been any faster.
Some years ago, they sent me the wrong inserts with my shafts, not once but twice, on two different orders.
As I live in Italy, this is a problem, because shipping costs would have been superior to the cost of the right inserts.

Very convenient video because I'm in the market for a trigger release.
Yeah I recommend this release and the truball centerline
I’ve got one, my twin brother also has one. He wore his strap out, the leather deteriorated but the strap was replaced with a heavier one
Thanks for the great information, I see u need to shorten my release up so I can wrap my finger around it more !!
Greatly content as always. Would be interesting to see what you think of John Dudleys wrist release!
I think the best is the one you feel most comfortable with and is broken in well. To each their own. 👍
“Keep Hammering” takes on a whole new meaning here.
Just remember to ad lift and run to the shoot part when using this product.
Hey Chris! I notice you always watch your top cam when you pull back. Is there something specific you’re looking at or is it just a habit you do?
Chris Bee “Lift, Run, Shoot” episode coming soon?
What’s better for hunting… a wrist release or hand release? Sorry if I got the terminology wrong I’m new to this .
Great video as always. Knew you would not be able to wrap your finger round first time using it 😄
Have one and found it has two settings - hot and stupidly hot.
But it's a great, consistent release. Very clean break on the shot and simple to use.
I love my but it can be so stupidly hot😂
Yea I have to keep mine at hot. Studily hot is too much for me
Is this a single or double caliper release. I like my fuse which is a single caliper. Less stuff to go wrong
I just bought one and I am gonna either use it or a button release
Has the same trigger mechanism as there whipper snapper. One of my buddies loves that thumb
I just bought this release and it is my favorite out of 20 years of shootijg a bow. It fits me
The Carter Like Mike 2 is my favorite finger release hands down.
Definately show it all!

Thank you for the shooting instruction
Review the Scott S2. Similar but I believe better. Cocking method is awesome on the S2. More and better adjustments.
I use the one with the Boa system. Many a buck have fallen to this device. I highly recommend it.
Pushing and pulling on what?
Are talking pushing bow out and pulling the cable/trigger back?
Hate how it doesn't swivel. But can't go back to an index now, thought it might help not losing your release while hunting
I try not to punch the trigger. Part of my process is to draw with tension behind the trigger. As I'm focusing on the target , I'm moving my finger to rest on top of the trigger. When ready to shoot my finger has less distance to travel now, thus creating a "controlled surprise" shot.
My Scott Little Goose II release is good like that, too.
Ultraveiw is definitely going to canoe out with a trigger release soon I can’t wait
Scott Solus ….. the trigger is even with the hook so you don’t lose any draw length! And it’s not a hair trigger plus it’s very smooth and quiet!
Literally the best release on the market for like the last 12 years
Definitely my fav wrist release
The Tuff Guy release from SH has a bit more tension but unfortunately it isn't an open hook style release. I love my wise guy release though.
I flinched just watching this video. I will never go back from a hinge.
Good stuff! Any benefits going from trigger to button style for hunting? I use a “short n sweet” but see a ton of the other styles now in the woods. Thanks.
I have the same release and it started going off when drawing back. I don’t know if I’ve done something wrong but I don’t trust it anymore.
I think the resin for diffent releases being made was due to pattens u can only make so many options of the same thing

Try a Carter Like Mike 2.
Great vid on proper release mechanics. This is my fave release when hunting, Improved my arrow grouping too.
travel hunt vlog style series. with side quests.
I prefer the like mike 2

New archer here..
Question, does your draw length change between using a hand held release and a trigger release like what you’re using?

Archery is a precision sport so focus a lot on your anchor points, form and not punching. Coming from someone who had to learn this the hard way
UV should design a high quality centerline style wrist rocket.
I really want to see arrow builds
I like the pinchers personally the hook makes me think it's pushing it to one side when it comes off and the pinchers let go at the same time. Just my brain everyone's brain thinks different 👍🏼🤠🇨🇦
Tried it... B3 makes a better release. No trigger movement before the release.
My neighbor had a wise guy lock up on him on a bull. What are the odds of shooting thousands of arrows all summer and it fails on the one time you’re trying to shoot a critter. Spot hogg sent him a new release but the mental damage was done.
Are we gonna see Chris on a Lift Run Shoot soon?😂
I love the Stan
I would like to see some more 3d shooting stuff
