I know as a watercolorist and pigment nerd that these earth colors are created with both natural & synthetic Iron Oxides that are naturally 100 % lightfast just like they are in watercolor paint & other mediums. Most true earth colors are. Beautiful work! I love these pencils.
That’s good to know!! I need more so called “pigment nerds” to see my videos and help me out with these things. I have lots to learn!! Thank you for watching😊
The colors are also reminding me of the subtle hues you get looking at natural rock formations and minerals, if you have any liking for landscapes with a lot of exposed geological features. Look at good photos of anything from chalk cliffs to basalt to sandstone to the crazy red earth formations in Africa and Australia, or even all kinds of minerals lying in shallow water at the seashore. If the colors themselves work well and you can combine them for even more subtle creation of hues, then they are perfect with perhaps another harder pencil type for surface texturing when needed.
If this isn't too weird a thing to compliment someone on - you are the best "swatcher" ever. I love when you say you are messy or sloppy-you are the most naturally perfect person! Great artwork in several media and not just commonly covered subjects. Very good reviews of products I am interested in and generally great channel.
They are amazing! Just got the 24 tin for my birthday. I bought most individuals years ago but was missing a few colours so asked for the tin as duplicates are great as backups. Among my favourite coloured pencils of all. An excellent addition to any collection just getting hype as I am waiting until my actual birthday to have them… loved your demonstration artwork.
They really are wonderful, I wish additional sets would be offered like this one with more colors. I love them so much. glad you enjoyed the vid, thanks for watching!
I enjoyed this demonstration. I would love to see yet another one where you use maybe OMS or Zest-It to blend the pencils - that would be really neat! As usual, your artwork is exceptional. Thanks, Alexis!
Appreciated your review very much. I bought a few singles back in the late '90s and rediscovered what was left recently. Playing with them, particularly the Venetian Red prompted me to pick up the set of 12. I think what first drew me to them, and still does, was that particular red. I've always liked the Da Vinci sketches in that red ochre tone (which may be age) and the composition and tone of these let me approach some of those old works in style. Thanks again.
Woah the core is so thick!! I love that!! Would be perfect for creating backgrounds 🙌🏻! Definitely a hidden gem! Creating the graph seems like a pain, but swatching out the actual pencils looks so satisfying 🤩!! Loveee the neutral tones of this set 🧡! Would be good for nature drawings! They look so creamy! You captured the texture of the frog so well!! Love love love the colors in this set! 💗
It’s a lovely set! I definitely recommend it. The pencils are really creamy without being too waxy if that makes sense. I love neutrals😍 thanks for watching!❤️
When I see a new to me product, I have a need to try it out LOL! Love the frog. I agree with Kari Beth, personally I could also use it for backgrounds.
Amazing froggy artwork! I love these pencils so much; I've been meaning to review these myself but my tin is the old design. I did consider buying a second set to get the new design....until I saw that they are $70 right now in Australia! They were $50 a few years ago. 🤣
Thank you, I want to draw a more green frog now!😂🐸 I didn’t know about the old design- but maybe it would be fun for people to see it. Yup, I feel like the price can get quite high with these pencils! I got them on sale thank goodness😭
Somehow I have fourteen of these colors. I use them with my Colorsofts mostly. The 24 set is $44.00 USD on Amazon and yeah these are really nice colored pencils. Great frog/toad drawing. Cheers from cold Denver!!
@@armandoalvarado3956 I can’t get the proper spelling of the pencils through my phone so I have to omit the U sorry. I actually have the 72 set of the Colorsofts and I love them. I feel that Derwent makes very high quality art supplies that just last and last.
Just saw your video and ordered these pencils to try. Great video and your illustration of the frog was superb? Do you normally do scientific illustrations?
I don't like swatching either, I spent an easy 4 hrs yesterday swatching my set of shuttle art 61 count marker set on my 4 different art pads, them being the Strathmore series Bristol vellum, Bristol smooth and the Strathmore marker pads. I have 1 Fabriano sketch book as well. Great video again, I use to have a set of Derwent and found myself going back to the Prisma color pencils 👍😅💯👨🎨
@@AlexisCassandraArt I don't have a favorite pencil yet because I'm just starting to get back into drawing. I do have a Pacific Arc 2mm mechanical pencil that I enjoy sketching with. 😃
This looks like a set I should put on my Christmas list BTW the drawing is awesome - Big Like Really enjoyed the content - Great work thanks for sharing ✨👩🏻🎨✨🎨✨
Just grabbed a sepia and sanguine for two bucks each, didnt expect much but these are niiiice. Idk why the singles are so cheap. Gotta go back for a chinese white too wow.
I appreciate you showed a full drawing with this set. I 've had a 24 set since years and I still haven't use it. Now it's time. I 'd like to know what other more complete Derwent set can be mixed with thes for integrating the missing vibrant colour with similar material pencisl - wax based - . Should I use the Derwent colorsoft? thank you
You know, I feel like this is a standalone set! derwent has a ton of colored pencil sets, and I haven't tried them all. The Procolours were too hard for me. The Coloursoft were very buttery. I think the colored pencil set that receives the most praise (besides the Drawing pencils) is the Derwent Lightfast. They are expensive and I don't own them yet

This was a highly personable, entertaining and informative review, thank you!
I could NOT draw fur and animals and even hair without these. Oddly specific but I can draw literally 1000s of foxes with this set. Love these.
Oh yeah, these are the colors of the natural woods!

Haha thank you, I’ll take the compliment! I’m glad you find the channel helpful😊
Beautiful drawing! I love these pencils, especially for woodland themes.
Thank you! They are wonderful pencils
Great video! Another perk of the more muted palette is that it would integrate more easily with furniture/decor when displayed.
Yes, it sure looks more natural! Thanks for watching :)

They are wonderful pencils and a very unique color palette! The colors do remind me of older style artworks. Enjoy your pencils!
They are #1 on my want list. Was wondering how long lasting they are.

This was perfectly timed as I just ordered a few of these pencils to try out. Enjoyed watching your frog come to life!
YAY! Artists intuition I suppose😂 I loved how the color palette worked for the frog
Nice video.! And Art work.! Thanks for the review. 👊😎
Thanks Bruce! Glad you enjoyed it:)

Did I see China white that’s meant to be a very good white pencil?
I highly recommend it for backgrounds, especially when you don’t want the background to be too bright and overpower the main piece!
Yup, I love the Chinese white! It’s up there with the Luminance white for me
@@AlexisCassandraArt thank you for replying and answering my question.
Love these pencils love your 🐸 frog too.
Thank you😅

Hi Alexis, what pencil sharpener have you been using with your derwents?
Excellent review!
Thank you!
I love this set.
they are my favorite:)

That’s a great price for them honestly! They are wonderful pencils. Where I life, cold is 50F😂❄️
@@AlexisCassandraArt It can hit -15F here lol and yes they are great pencils.
i also use them along my coloursoft, i have eleven of these drawing colors that i bought open stock after i bought a 24 set of coloursoft haha

It seems that the frog is the common frog that lives in everywhere especially in rice farms and it's nearby places.
Yes, and it’s perfectly suited for this color pallets I think!🐸
Te mando un saludo grande desde Argentina... Excelente video

It’s a lovely and unique art! Thank you so much!❤️
yeah there are a lot of derwent pencils out there to try and it seems like they add a few more almost every year now lol
Oh yes. I haven’t even tried the chromaflows yet!
neither have i, broke ex student lol so they are a bit too much for me
I wish there is a set like this for polychromos, that set up is perfect for portraits.
So far, my favorite set for portraits has been Luminance because they have a range of skin tones. They are so expensive though!
They look good but they are a lot of dark colors the frog looked great. Not that the colors wouldn’t come in handy. thanks for the share Stay Safe
Yeah lots of darks and neutrals! It’s a very specific palette I think. Thanks for watching!
One of the better Derwent pencils great to use.
100% agree with you
Can we do potraits with them..the colors are gorgeous....this one is right on my budget , I do potraits I'm really confused whether to get this or not
Yes, but the color range isn’t quite large enough I’d say. If you have some colored pencils already these would be a great addition!
I definitely need to pick up more color pencils I can't find mine 😭
It’s easy to lose them and I always have a mini heart attack if I think a color is missing😂
Just grabbed a sepia and sanguine for two bucks each, didnt expect much but these are niiiice. Idk why the singles are so cheap. Gotta go back for a chinese white too wow.
They are really nice. Pick up as many as you can!
got my 24 pencil-set today in my local store for only 45€ - amazon germany wants 67€ for it 🙂
Congrats!! You’re gonna love them. Glad you found a good deal too:)
I have my Mum's old set of these. There are only 6!
oh how I wish they would make more than 24, they are just superb
@@AlexisCassandraArt , we can but hope.
