Thanks for posting this. I managed to re-thread the bolt through the filler tube bracket into the new oil pump without loosening the pan using 2 pairs of modified tweezers. Took me all day but I got it. Whew.
YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!! I'm in the middle of a cam and lifter replacement on my 2012 jeep grand cherokee.Cherokee. Man these things are squeezed in tight!!! Thank you!!!!!!
@@chriscovington9443 I did not. I just did this upgrade just for the performance. However I've upgraded again to a 397 stroker motor. The only real way out of lifter failure is for MDS Delete
Nice little trick. Only negative i see is not being able to replace the oil pan gasket. So I would definitely watch that for leaks after it’s running again
Oh man, i still dropped the timing chain position, next time ill use a zip tie and make sure its tight. And 4x4 trucks have a metal oil pan so it needs to completely come off to remove the oil pump and set the timing chain. Thanks for the videos man!
Maybe to change the pump but timing set is easy to do with everything on. Find the crank tooth and paint it then set it to the spot. Set the cam phaser to its spot and put the chain on. It’s made to look so hard but it’s really not. The first time doing it is sketchy I’ll give you that I had mine 80° out and luckily I didn’t bend a rod or valve stem. There are two marks on the phaser one on front and another on the back. I used the back mark like a twat. I learned my lesson tho and after that fo pah it was really easy. I had to take it down a second time and it was breezy going together that time. I’m about to do this pump now because I’m stupid and didn’t do the pump when I was in there doing the cam. I didn’t realize the pumps are the culprit of trashed valve trains.
Hey I'm doing this same on a 5.7 hemi in a 2011 ram 1500. I wanted to know after this repair how did your oil pan hold up. Any leaks.. it's a brilliant idea. I've tried the turn oil pump idea before but does not work on my truck like it does a charger so this is something I'm going to try. I'm just wondering if that extra room will damage the seal and need more repair later? Let me know how it goes. Thank you. I'm subscribing
Ive had zero issues. I tried the turning method as well and it didnt work for me. I didn't like how it felt binding up and didnt want to put the new one on by twisting it.
Better yet once you got your timing cover off you do not have to pull any oil pan bolts pull the bolt that holds the tube on to the oil pump then pull your oil pump bolts out and then you give your oil pump a turn, clockwise a little bit and you’ll be able to pull it right off without prying down on your oil pan
I changed my oil pump by removing the 4 bolts that hold it to the block an rotating it as much as I could an it gave me the room needed. I had to figure that out on my own the hard way lol.
Thanks for the info,,, i’m doing my 5.7 next week… Have low oil pressure,,, no light on dash . but that is the only thing i can think of why i have lost oil pressure. Thanks again
Team Mopar upon start up I see good oil pressure. When I give it gas the oil pressure drops. Give it a little more gas and then I have no oil pressure. Truck will not go above 40km/hr
Unbolt and drop the pan. Fish the gasket out. Slid the new one in bolt it back up. The pan will drop a couple inches which is enough to take the old gasket out, clean the lip of the pan with a rag and put the new one in. I've done it. Super easy about an hour Job.
I hope there isn't a next time. If there is however, its because I'm running boost and putting a forged bottom end in, which at that point the whole motor will come out instead.
Depending on the vehicle the hemi is in this method of turning the pump may work. I've tried it on my ram with no luck. Not enough play to access the bolt. But I've see ppl with chargers and challengers who have had success turning it. I wish this was the case for me.
Pretty cool, however, when you put the oil pan back, are you sure it’s not gonna leak without replacing the pan gasket? I’m assuming if you are changing your oil pump, chances are your vehicle is over 100k, at which point the gasket may already be going bad, no?
Un bolt 5-6 bolts on each side. Push down on the front of the oil pan. Slide the oil pump off. Its really not that hard. You just have to use your brain a little.
Has anyone else tried this method? Did it work with no issues?? Doing a cam replace and lifter replacement now, wanted to replace my oil pump and timing set while I'm at it! 2013 Grand Cherokee 5.7
@@teammopar771 just curious if oil pan sealed back up with no leaks.....also our has no bolt holding pick up tube in correct? When I pulled my timing cover first thing I was looking for and didn't see a bolt for pick up tube and my heart skipped. Also how may bolts did you take loose from each side, 5 not counting the ones you already had out for timing cover?
@@siraltitude71 yes. The three front and 5 down the sides. You can get away with 4 but you will have to push down harder on the pan. The pick up tube should be secured with an exhaust manifold bolt. However I jad long since ripped my pick up tube out the pan and was never able to fully seat it back into the oil pan. It kinda just dangles now
Well shit. I was excited. But I have a 6.4 SRT and my pan is aluminum not abs. This is not what I wanted to hear. I hope I can find a way to not drop the pan and replace this dead pump. Thanks for the vid, you are a genius!!! You just saved me a ton of time and frustration.
I’m looking to buy a cam kit OEM is crazy expensive here, what did you use or have any suggestions?
Or you can remove the 4 bolts from the oil pump and rotate the oil pump as well giving you access to the 10mm bolt to remove screen tube,
Whats funny is that, that bolt isn't there on the WK2 5.7 Oil pan
Yeah no Bolt Bro
Which oil pump did you go with?
Will the pickup tube drop gotta drop a new cam gear in… don’t ask why… I don’t want to eyeball timing on this go
What year is your truck? Im about to change out one on a 2015 RAM. Any difference?
Will this work relatively similar when changing the oil pump on a 3.5 V6 2005 Dodge magnum sxt?
well done very intuitive! Is this the same on the 6.1 srt8?
