That's cool.i see you often flying over my house here at the gardens of palm Aire and I at times hang at the observation deck.i had no idea how busy you are in the cockpit 😮 thanks for the trip
The first video I’ve watched on this channel. A delight to see a solo pilot operating a CJ3+, using checklists, briefing a flight plan, and dealing with radios and ATC in a busy airspace, along with beautiful views over the Florida Keys. Contrast that with the videos on TH-cam about the last flight of Learjet N452DA, which show how to completely screw up all those things. As a non-pilot, I’ve watched those, but now it’s good to see how things are done professionally.
I appreciate the kind comments! I've read a lot about and watched tons of videos on N452DA. Pretty tragic what happened there on many levels. I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and comment on it! If there's anything else you'd like to see or if I can answer any questions for you, please let me know!

Been to Key West many times. Only flown in and out of the Keys one time. That was on an American Eagle connection flight out of Miami to Marathon. That was in the mid 1990s. I haven’t been to Key West now in 20 years. It’s about a 17 hr drive from my house and I’m not as young as I used to be. I can’t handle them long drives like I used to could. I’ve made the drive from Hollywood down to Key West many times. Which is basically the same as the flight you took. If I remember right I took 5 to 7 hours to drive, what took you 30 minutes to fly. Just found your channel. I’ll have to take a look at what else you have. Have a good day.
Yeah when I used to live in Lauderdale we'd drive down there and it was about a 5 hour drive. Much nicer in the plane! I never realized that airlines flew in and out of Marathon. It's been a while since I was there, and probably the last time was in the 90s. 17 hours away now, are you up in Georgia / NC?
Yeah, not much changes from the air other than the number of planes up there. On the ground, just the population density. Both Key West and South Florida have exploded since the 70s/80s!
@@AccidentalAviator Oh my, yes! Moved to Miami in '71 as a 10 yr old, then Ft. Lauderdale in the '80's, then Palm Beach in the 90's ... and in '97 the population of Palm Beach County had exceeded 1 MILLION people! Moved the family to mountains of NC in 1997. 😄👍
@@PatrickSBellSr I lived in Lauderdale from 82 through 2010 then moved to Wilmington, NC. So you remember I-95 not even being finished back in the 70's and 80s. You had to hop off at Fort Pierce and take the turnpike the rest of the way. Now it's like 6-8 lanes in both directions!
@@AccidentalAviator Yes! We called it "The Missing Link"! Another memory is that US-1 was only a couple of lanes wide in front of Hollywood - Ft.Lauderdale Airport (in DANIA!) and there was only one entrance into FLL and it had a train level-crossing - if a freight train came by there was a 50/50 chance you'd miss your flight. Ah, a simpler time...😎
@@PatrickSBellSr in 82, Route 84 (alligator alley) was 2 lanes heading into FLL, and any road west of university was a dirt road. We moved to Inverarry then which had a PGA tournament and was one of the most beautiful place! A lot has changed since then. They've run out of land to build on in Broward county, now everything they're building is up!
So many things to think about. I give all these fellows an "ATTABOY!" for remembering all these things. I guess when you are doing this for a long time it becomes ruteen. Better him then me!!
I'm not sure it every really becomes routine, but for the most part you can anticipate what's coming next, and as long as you "stay ahead" of the airplane, it should make for a safe flight.
Very cool channel. Really enjoyed watching you work and listening to the jet. Can you explain a little more of what you’re seeing on your screens and what everything means. Thanks
I try to explain a little bit on each flight, and my most recent flights I've been over-dubbing with what I'm actually thinking and looking at. If there's something you'd specifically like to hear about, ask away! I'll be happy to answer.

@@jamescole1786 Yeah, I learned to fly starting in the mid 80's before all the fancy avionics, and I'm kind of glad I did. One of the planes I flew in the late 80s had a LORAN and I thought it was the greatest thing ever! Avionics have made the skies a lot safer, but when those things break, some pilots don't seem to know what to do with themselves. That, and as you have said, the skies are getting very crowded. It's crazy how much busier south Florida airports have gotten. You controllers do an amazing job!
We flew once on Cape Air from FLL to EYW and it was glorious to see the water the entire flight (I think there were about 20 passengers on this flight and are cruising altitude was like 18,000 feet (from what I remember). Better than driving there, but our last visit to Key West was way back in 2005 when we were on a cruise ship and the last port was Mallory Square in Key West. It's definitely one of my better videos! Thanks for watching!
I went to Key West various times in the 70s, great place!
So cool! It had to be amazing back in the 70's!
I live in Wilmington and I watch for 2WB all of the time. Keep it up, I throughly enjoy your videos!
The next time we're flying is Friday or Saturday!
Wow thats awesome the otters land together never saw that
Yeah, it was a pretty cool sight. I wish the camera would have picked it up a little better.
Enjoyed the flight. Thanks for the ride.
Our pleasure!
Very nicely done...you show complete confidence and master knowledge of the CJ3. Thanks for taking us along.....Stephen
Thanks 👍I'm glad you enjoyed it. Please let me know if I can answer anything for you!
Excellent explanation and procedures, Captain, we hope to see more videos like this, thank you very much. 👍 👍
You're welcome! One is coming out tomorrow at 2pm!
Keep up the safe flying!
Thank you! That's my intent!
Thanks for providing the gorgeous view. I had no idea there was so much button-pushing involved - height and speed changes. You made it look so easy..
@@glennchristie2316 The avionics in this aircraft kind of minimizes the button/dial pushing. It's pretty simple compared to older planes!
I was in Key😢 West on the Bushnell the night before what they call the Bay of Pigs invasion.
Justvfound you. Beautiful, t thanks for the flight & sharing.
🤎🇺🇲👍
That had to be a crazy time to be there! Thank you for your service!
@AccidentalAviator, Yes there were some interesting events taking place during that time.
Yes Sir, like others have said ,probably the best single Pilot channel, and the best video I have watched in a while, retired 11 years ago flying a King Air B200T ( all analog ) and this brought back good memories. Thank you !
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. I learned to fly on all analog, and I'm glad I did, but the avionics now just make situational awareness amazing. Where were you flying the King Air out of?
@@AccidentalAviator Out of San Juan PR,maritime surveillance ,caribbean sea ,along with US Coast Guard, US Customs,CBP, HIDTA program also with local Police Dept.Did that for 25 years also flew rotorcraft. When ICE was created they had their own aircraft and funds were scarce. There was also a " fat albert" on the south west corner of the Island , that also brought memories.15 years prior to that , did Avionics installs for several outfits in South FL and also flew commuter small outfits which all went bankrupt, that was what led me to stay in law enforcement.1988 to 2013.

Great and safe flight. I felt quite comfortable on my seat while watching your piloting to Key West. Bravo . Thanks.🎉
Glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate you watching!
I went to Key West in the early 90s, haven’t been since. Now that I live in Florida I would love to drive down, taking my time to stop here and there along the way then fly back since it’s about a 10 hr drive from where I live on the west coast. I’m sure KW has changed a lot since I was there last!
It has! It's pretty touristy, but still worth the trip and/or vacation every now and then! Where are you located on the west coast?
Excellent video! I appreciate all the effort you put into making it.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching! I should have a bunch coming out in the next few months!
Really enjoyed the flight! Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it! Please let me know if I can answer anything for you!
Just found your channel. We live in South Florida and love visiting the keys. Have always drove. Great video. Makes we want to go down there again. Beautiful perspective from the air. I am not a, pilot... very informative from a pilot's perspective. Looking forward to more videos.
Awesome! Thank you for watching! It is a little different perspective from up there looking at everything going on in South Florida and the keys. I've made that drive from Lauderdale a few times too and much prefer the 30 minute flight! :-)
Was just in Key West last month. Beautiful, would love to have seen it 30 years ago.
It was definitely a little more laid back! :-)
It WAS a different world 30 yrs ago. I lived for over 25 yrs and left four years ago. Not as fun as it WAS.........
Thank you and enjoyed the flight with you. You explanations makes me feel I am in the cockpit with you.
Glad to hear that! I try to teach something on each flight, or at least bring you along to see what it's like up in the cockpit!
What a journey you’ve laid out. I really appreciated the satellite view of the route you’re planning. It really gives perspective of the cities and ferry routes as you hop from island to island. The Scottish countryside is truly quite beautiful. Thanks for filming your adventures for us Kevin. Cheers from Florida 🌴🌴👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Although this isn't the Scottish countryside, I will be in Edinburgh next month! :-)

I’m glad I found this channel, easy to follow the flight and fun to listen from start to finish. Thank you sir.
Glad you enjoy it! I appreciate you watching!
Thanks For The Flight & Views ... But That View of the Clouds on Top is Always Priceless
They are spectacular! I'll try to show more of them!
Been to Key West mucho times. Lived on Big Pine in the 70s. Worked for Topino Construction driving their lowboy when we were building the new bridges.
That had to be amazing living down there in the 70s! I bet you have some stories to tell building those replacement bridges.
Enjoyed the IFR ride in the CJ3+. I learn a lot from your comms with ATC, and your commentary/explanations. Miss flying VFR in the right seat with my dad years ago in a 172 around Toronto area. He’d be amazed with today’s avionics.
Glad you enjoyed it! I learned to fly in the 80s, and the changes in avionics are just outrageous to me. The situational awareness and safety produced from them is through the roof!
Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!
Thanks for sharing. The post edit work is excellent and hopefully inspired by some earlier videos. Love the use of keyframes. The pilot perspective is really appreciated. Stay safe!!
I try to learn/add something new in adobe each time I do a video. Post flight edits are becoming a little easier now that I've been doing it for a year! I need to find someone to teach me how to make things more polished! :-)
My son lives and works in Islamorada Fl as a charter boat captain. I believe if the weather improved he’s heading to Bimini for CF charity crossing.
Safe travels, to all!
Awesome! Bimini is a really cool place too. I'm hoping to put out a video flying over to Nassau in a few weeks. I think you'll see Bimini on that one!
Great videos as usual. Took my family and 2 dogs on 3 trips to KEYW from KLZU in my C182. Made a fuel stops and potty breaks for the puppies along the way. Always a fun time between Fed. - March.
Good stuff! Family and 2 dogs in the 182? I'm guessing they are tiny puppers! I love hearing other peoples stories. I've been in LZU a few times (although it's been a while) in the jet. I've got a lot of family/friends in the Atlanta area.
Glad I found your channel. Love watching your flights. Miss flying!
Welcome aboard! What did you used to fly?
I have always loved flying I actually took flying lessons before I drove a car. My parents couldn’t afford them so I got a job and paid for them myself. Unfortunately I was in a car accident just prior to taking my private pilot test and physically couldn’t do it. Then life happened and I got married had children and couldn’t afford to go back to it. I find solace in watching flight videos and enjoy anytime I get to fly commercially now. But I always wanted to go back to it. Keep the videos coming, love them.
@@davidmcwilliams3296 I'm glad you like the videos. I'm going to keep cranking them out as quick as I can. I'll have some really good ones coming towards the end of the year!

Number one I love airplanes and I enjoyed the ride. I can tell you are a very skilled pilot
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the kind comments!
Fun to watch!! I used to flight instruct at North Perry many moons ago. Did a few NDB approaches into Marathon when I was doing my Double I training and have flown a bit over the Keys. This video brought back many good memories of flying in South Florida. Thanks for a great trip down memory lane.
When did you instruct out of Perry? I learned to fly out of FLL in the mid to late 80s and had many "landings" at OPF and HWO!
That's cool.i see you often flying over my house here at the gardens of palm Aire and I at times hang at the observation deck.i had no idea how busy you are in the cockpit 😮 thanks for the trip
I used to live near Palmaire! Yes, Executive is a pretty busy airspace! But it's my second home and I love coming down there!
Great video! I lived in KW until 2007. You’re right: beautiful, but the magic is gone.
I totally agree! Where did you wind up moving to?
@@AccidentalAviator
Steamboat Springs, CO. A beautiful little town deep in the Rockies.
That was really cool. Been a Floridian since 1988. Never been to EYW. Would love to do a road trip someday.
Where in Florida are you? I lived in Lauderdale from 1982 to 2010. It's changed so much! My family still lives down there.
Beautiful flying
Thank you! Please let me know if I can answer anything for you!
Captain, very nice images and the placement of the cameras is great to be able to observe.
I appreciate you watching!
I got my Private many years ago at FLL Intl and we used to use Boca Raton and Key West to practice cross wind landings and takeoffs. Did my first cross country FLL to Naples. Thanks for your great videos!
Very cool! So, I soloed at FLL in 1987! My first "landings" were at OPF and I too practiced crosswinds at Boca. That's where everyone went to practice crosswinds! Ironically enough, my first solo cross country was to Naples too! It was easy to follow state road 84 across the everglades!
What year did you solo?
@@AccidentalAviator Would have been around 1994 or so. Still have my ripped T Shirt! I think the outfit was called Big Sky Aviation at the FLL FBO. Its been so long
Looks like a great way to get to Key West! Thanks
Best way to get in and out!
Key West approach very nice. I have flown commercial there many times. What fond memories for sure.
I am confident that your return flight was on point. Thank you very much.
I actually recorded the flight prior to this one (flying out of Key West to Fort Lauderdale), but I just haven't edited it yet. I thought going into Key West had more beautiful scenery so I put this one up first.

Im very afraid to flight…seen you flying with such a confidence gives me encouraging to board a plane again 😂👍👍
I actually love to hear that. If I can answer anything about flying, please let me know! Commercial air travel is very safe. You should only be afraid if you see the pilot afraid! :-)

That was an awesome flight! I use to live in Hollywood, Fl back in the early 90's. Great to see Florida once again :)
Very cool! I lived in Sunrise from 1982 through 2010. Where are you out of now?
Right now I live in Georgia. We moved up there in 96.
Northern Tennessee
Wow! Awesome video - brings back a LOT of memories from the 70's, 80's and 90's. All still looks pretty much the same from the air. 😎😁

Amazing, so much going on. Not sure how you can process and multi-task so many things at once !! I'm not a pilot but enjoyed !!
Good job Captain 👍

Welcome aboard! I appreciate you watching and commenting. I assume that ATC has changed a bit too since the 70s? Probably computers helping out a lot more than they used to? Thank you for your service!
@@AccidentalAviator 6/11/24..thx for yur response; talk about tech change! Wow! I am seeing Fantastic computer anticipation/'traffic' & 'terrain' cockpit verbal warnings & also controller radar Altitude & Path/track 'convergence' projection warnings. Also Tower controllers with some type of Altitude sensors on incoming arrivals.
Horrified when Juan Brown ( BlancOlrio) mentioned 'new'(?) FFA taxi & placement of 'next' Departure a/c on 'Active R/W >before< (very) short a/c on Final has landed!!! Then other Tower problems: taxi way-Active R/W over crowding issues events...back in 't-day' nobody allowed on R/W until arrival (safely) landed & rolling away or Departure had 'rotated'.. but ' overcrowding' has caused several 'panic' (voice) Tower command 'reversals/cancilations' due to last minute realizations of conflict...JFK incident while back.
So yes, ATC system & computer improvements, cockpit & Controller areas since 70's has much improved...but man-o-man, everybody, pilots & controllers gotta be awake, on their 'A' game at all times!

Would like to visit again, but agreed that it's very "touristy" now. Loved the video and with all that radio chatter, I don't know how you can tell when the towers are speaking to YOU about your flight.
It is definitely very touristy, but a place that you have to visit at least once, and maybe a few times. Mallory square is great and there are a lot of amazing museums.
You kinda get used to your tail number and your brain picks up on them pneumonically saying it. You can see that I generally stop talking when they start with "November 2 8 2 Whiskey Bravo."
