Sorry to hear about the redpoll's, this was happening to me last year , the hen would just stop feeding them. This happened to a pair in the outside flight and ones inside the shed . Totally soul destroying.
As I mentioned before this year we won't breed anything , as they are altogether in a flight, ( keeping an eye on them flighting) whist the new bird room is being built. I hope you have better luck moving forward. Ì

Do you release the native birds or keep them? Just wondering. We don’t get many bullfinch in Manchester I’d be interested to see how difficult it would be to assist in repopulating them?

They are kept and traded betwen other aviculturists. And releasing can be complicated, you need to make sure they are arent deseased, they could have built imunity and carry captive deseases that wild birds arent immune to. Also make sure to have wild coloured birds (with no splits to avoid founder syndrome, so the population wont have different colour mutations, but its not that big of a deal, north american collared doves are lighter than doves from the native range bc of this reason. The worry would be that it would cause problems with wild birds, one or two mutated birds arent a problem, but continuous introduction can be problematic). Also always release young birds that just got independant, bc thats the age where they learn to survive and can adapt, and have the birds always be parent-raised for the best chances of a breeding population being established.

When is it the best time to put the bath for the greenfinches during breeding time and for how long you leave it, tx🙂

I leave it for an hour, and generally around mid day or morning so the chicks/eggs can stay warmer for longer
