Roaches are a regular part of working on transit coaches here in NYC. There has been times I have refused to work on a bus infested with roaches until an exterminator is brought in. Love lifting the rear seat and engine hatches and see them scurrying for cover. We use Trizoil penetrating oil and spray a ring around us on the floor to repel them.
'There's your problem lady'! I could not believe how much water came out of there. Great video and fix! Thank you Eric and Hannah! SMA#1 God bless Paul
You've shown us some of the coolest stuff over the years. Escape smoking out of the coolant reservoir, huge carbon chunk in Honda EGR valve, and now this drain waterfall. Awesome stuff. Thanks Dr. O!
I have often said it to myself.... I use to see this problem a lot with the older Caravans. I have not run into it much lately though. Did you ever find what it was plugged up with?
I was the asshat, in my head, correcting you in my head until the joke caught up with me. Looking forward to the project Jeep. But, you need a project name.
I got to meet Eric yesterday. I was down in Bath, NY, on business, and I saw a sign : Avoca 6-> So I says to myself, hey, I can't just blow it off. So I drove the 6 miles to Avoca and sure enough, there's South Main Auto, just like he said. Eric dropped what he was doing, which was probably making this video, and came out to the office to shake hands and chit-chat for a couple of minutes. He was very gracious about being interrupted like that, which was rude of me, considering the man's trying to make a living back there in the shop. I put myself in his shoes, and I wouldn't like it very much, to have people dropping in to the shop wanting face time, just because they saw me on TH-cam. I asked the very pretty and cheerful young lady running the office if Eric got a lot of TH-cam fans visiting and she told me yes, quite often. So hey, everybody, it's great to meet a star in person, but keep in mind he's a working man. To Eric, my apologies, and I say next time we meet I will have a car problem for you, and that will make it legit. Well met - Jack
I stumbled across this video after my daughter complained about hearing water flowing in her Dash. She had exactly the same plug plus her cowl drain was blocked. Thanks so much!! You' da man!! man!!!
Love your videos! We appreciate sharing your experience with us. It's very helpful to us DIYers. I learn something every time I watch your videos. God Bless! From Florence Alabama.
Thanks you just made my day. Rock or something got in mine when I changed the filter, must have been sitting on top of it, its noisy as crazy thought I'd have to take apart the dash to take the motor out.
Have a subbie baja and the blower motor would act odd and intermittent. Found corrosion on the soldered points of each resister lines. Reflowed all of the Solder. Works like a charm and saved 35 bucks.
My roof's got a hole in it an I might drown.Drought at the moment in the emerald isle and the 1 litre of bottled water has become legal tender to replace the euro currency. A blocked drain caused the extinction of the dinasours and not a meteorite as expounded by the leading scientists.Loved the video and great to see that the nursing has transformed Hannah into a new creation.
Hey, I was just in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area and it was like 92-95 every day! Our AC worked flawlessly though, thank the Freon Gods. I had a '99 Mitsubishi Galant awhile back that had a clogged condenser drain. Couldn't find the drain outlet to save my life. Even with the Haynes manual. The picture they had for the location of the outlet was so cryptic and blurry I couldn't tell anything from it. I had to take the dang console out and remove the lower dash panel. Followed the drain pipe and found that it came out horizontally (naturally) just to the inside of the steering column on the firewall. It had a rubber "flapper nipple" thingy on there that went 90 degrees from the outlet. I popped it off of there and the water flowed just like in this video. The slit where the water comes out must have been not quite right from the factory. It was so tiny that it had gotten plugged by a tiny, tiny paint chip. I modified the outlet with a razor knife and put it back on there. Of course, my carpet and padding were soaked so I had to lift it all up and run a fan on it for 24 hours -- the day before an all-day drive to Kansas City via Smalltown Indiana. That was fun. Great video, as always.
Great video. I had a grand vitara with the drain plugged. The ecm on it was full of water making it not start. I found it because the passengers side floor was wet.
Aarrrggghhhh.... another NO BRAKE CLEAN video... no toots, no spritz, no good stuff.... ugh. Good video other than that one gripe.... lol...! Thanks Mr. O, and Hannah the shop girl!
Great video Dr.O but I agree with DIY Misfit " Mechanic" I wish I had just a fraction of bladder control that car had I would be doing great. Anyway another great video until next time PEACE.
Those drains are weirdly designed, with no way to flush or clean the upper cavity of dirt. It's disconcerting to just blow the obstruction back up and let it rip, but I guess that's all you can do without a huge disassembly. Maybe a dead cockroach was blocking the tube, ha ha.
That ain't nothin, on some Jeep Grand Cherokees the hose is in the frame with no way to access it to blow it out like that. Gotta drill a hole inside the car and blow in or take apart the dash.
Nice wet work there, Eric! Once, I had a Toyota truck that my TRD headers cracked. It later occurred to me that they cracked because the AC condensate nipple was piddling right out on top (the original headers were upgraded to TRD performance and thus, the "heat shield" was removed. It was not a heat shield, but condensate shield from the firewall). And expensive lesson on dumb engineering vs adding Toyota performance. Ask me about the cracked clutch bracket and how a Toyota ASE thought cutting a floormat would fix it! :P
I didn't even think they were still making the Dodge Avenger in 2013. Lol. I went to college with a friend(who was a girl) who bought the very first model of the Avenger back in 1996. It was bright red and right out of the Dodge dealerships first shipment from Chrysler. That car had so many defects, recalls and problems that the poor gift from rich daddy warbucks got shipped down the road before the end of the first semester. I clearly remember asking her, "where's your brand new Dodge?" After I didn't see it anymore. Her reply? "I didn't like it. Everything kept breaking on it so I got a Toyota Camry coupe instead." I just smiled and said, "good choice." That was back in the day when Toyota made Camry coupes. Such a rare sight even when they were new. Wasn't until years later did I find out all those first generation Avengers were complete POS.
I bet that Camry is still on the road. Toyota will have to issue a recall on 90's Camrys at this rate just because customers should have brought something new by now. hahahaha
Had a 2012 Avenger bought new my wife drove it for 122,000 mi no issues 1 brake job and one set of tires. Used it to trade on a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am glad people like you hate Chrysler products love getting those $5k Discounts off MSRP at year end. Wife drives my "old" 2012 Journey Now with 50K miles on it second set of tires and one brake job so far and runs like new. I would say never buy the first 2 or 3 year Models of brand new car design, engine design or transmission design. The Japanese cars "appear" better because most designs are tried out on Japanese home customers first before they designs are brought into the US.
Are you kidding me roaches. That car would have been out of my shop immediately. If I liked the person I might fix it in the parking lot. No way would I take the chance on my shop getting infested. Your a better man than l mr o.
Great video Eric! I can't believe how much water was in the airbox! Thanks for taking us along Eric even though the camera got in the way. 5:14 :O Did you find what was clogging the drain?
Mr. O,. My wife is a nurse and she said you should not be spraying that CRC on your hands like that. She said that can cause alot of health problems. She said that's how you get cancer.
Man, I'd love to work for you. I was taught by old man who worked for GM, Ford and Oldsmobile back in the day along with building 427 side oiler engines for Nascar. I've got the old school tricks along with the new school electronic tricks haha.
2010 Silverado passenger floor gets a little wet when running ac a lot but is draining outside the drain on firewall also…it’s not coolant in the floor it’s clean water…blew some air inside drain line, still the same
At least it had a cabin filter. Had a similar blower fan problem in a 1st gen tundra. no cabin filter and the evaporator was coated with junk. at least I could take out the blower and the resistor and had just enough room to shove a combination of vacuum, brushes, water and bathroom cleaner to get it clean. Saved the blower fan and cleaned it out with isopropyl alcohol and it runs ok. Didnt want to replace an original fan with aftermarket junk.
ive always found spider webs as the cause of the clog... the back of a zip tie hooks on to it and pulls it out and also a box leaking rain water from the top does this
Did notice a wet floor 2x a year after I brought the care new. 2013 Avenger. Could have been more times but I rarely to never sit in the passenger seat. Now 2021 my heat / ac stops working completely. No Air blowing at all. No noise at all. Fuses checked. Lights still work on knobs. I love how simple it looks to change the Blower Motor cause it's hard driving with no heat and I still paying for a check engine light that the dealership can't seem to fix. Well everything but what make the check engine light keep coming on (P0740).
drain outlet old timer cure. Strip a 12 gauge wire 6-8" Secure to the outside of tube loop the wire and insert in drain line. Vibration helps to keep it clean
About the drain hose, blowing air inside it like you did is enough,or there is more to do like see what made it clogged in the first place, and if that the case what is the best way to see what inside from the cabin?Thank you for all the videos and hard work you do.
i had to hit the a/c drain in my chrysler 200 with some air about a month ago every time i took a left it sounded like a trolling motor hittin the lake lol
Had the same thing happen to my sister's 07 Caliber. Took me a while to figure out the sound I was hearing was the blower running in water like a paddle wheel not something engine or suspension related...
Would love to see you replace a lower steering column bearing on an early 2000's GM pickup. I've done two and struggled both times...... There are other TH-cam vids on doing this but they didn't help.
My wiper blade is smearing on my windshield. I don't get it there new. I put 3 ugga duggas of wearever brake clean on them for longevity. I guess my windshields getting to hot for them at this point?!? Only thing I can think of at this point. Should I put some never seize on the windshield or antifreeze to keep it cool surface?
You are the funniest mechanic on youtube! Your channel is science mystery theater, standup comedy, and a cooking and pet show all rolled into one!!

Your commentary is the reason I watch your videos.
I learn something and I laughed my butt off the same time
'There's your problem lady'! I could not believe how much water came out of there. Great video and fix! Thank you Eric and Hannah!

You've shown us some of the coolest stuff over the years. Escape smoking out of the coolant reservoir, huge carbon chunk in Honda EGR valve, and now this drain waterfall. Awesome stuff. Thanks Dr. O!
And this is a very small fraction of what I actually work on everyday :)
"The piece of resistance" I love it haha.
First person to comment on that reference ya know :)
I have often said it to myself.... I use to see this problem a lot with the older Caravans. I have not run into it much lately though. Did you ever find what it was plugged up with?

So it's ok for you to disrupt his work but others shouldn't?-Shocking lack of manners.
Next time I'm in the States I will have to do the same...
Black Vic yeah. I take it he would be very gracious. He seems to be a very kind person.
I stumbled across this video after my daughter complained about hearing water flowing in her Dash. She had exactly the same plug plus her cowl drain was blocked. Thanks so much!! You' da man!! man!!!
Hanna is a good worker Bee.
Once I saw the roach scurrying across the ac box, I'd be done..lol.
my wife agrees with you. She just said "You've got a roach in your car lady, that's your problem"....
The roach is on vacation! no a/c in there home!LOL
Hey man, nice 740/940 in your picture. We’ve got a few RWD volvos as well. Weird breed, we are.
Darth Volvo. Keith "the guru" DeFazio's ultimate nightmare. lol
There’s your problem lady! cracks me up every time you say it. keep up the good work.
Your rendition of la cucaracha nearly made me piss myself.
Thanks for coming in today Fella
That thing had better bladder control than I do
Now that was a breath of fresh air. Have a great weekend!
For every ONE cockroach you see, there are several HUNDRED more that you dont see ... "Well there's your PROBLEM Lady..." lol
Like rats. If you see one in daylight there are 10-15 around at night. lol
It’s 5am and I’m watching this video, notification dedication!
Sitting here watching a new SMA video while drinking coffee out of my new SMA coffee cup!!! It's gonna be a good day!!!!
Nice that the motor was right where you could get to it. Thanks Eric!!
Hi, Mr. O. They should ai some of that blower power down the drain pipe. Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
Here I thought the heater core was leaking. Good thing you blew threw the drain hose first. Your experience has taught you well.
Love your videos! We appreciate sharing your experience with us. It's very helpful to us DIYers. I learn something every time I watch your videos. God Bless! From Florence Alabama.
I like the speed you are cranking out videos. My all time favourite youtuber!
Nice video you seam pretty happy with Hanna be there she is a smart helper it’s easy to see
Another great video buddy I thought we was watching the heater core flush video 😋
The one dislike guy has a K&N cabin filter...LuL
The videos always come up just as I'm about to head out the door for work.
Thanks you just made my day. Rock or something got in mine when I changed the filter, must have been sitting on top of it, its noisy as crazy thought I'd have to take apart the dash to take the motor out.
Hi Larry Us,,when you yell "whoa"! Fan for Life,JDZ
didn't even know they had drains, but it makes perfect sence once you think about it.
Have a subbie baja and the blower motor would act odd and intermittent. Found corrosion on the soldered points of each resister lines. Reflowed all of the Solder. Works like a charm and saved 35 bucks.
Sure is good to hear Hanna's wise ass comments again. She needs to toughen up!!

Dr. and nurse HANNAH can fix anything
She goes out into the sun and starts smoking - Priceless
Good Job Eric!
Congrats on 150K Subscribers
Great Video as always Mr SMA
Great video. I had a grand vitara with the drain plugged. The ecm on it was full of water making it not start. I found it because the passengers side floor was wet.
Never seen one that full of water. Great video
Hi Hanna. Solid video Eric, owners of this vehicle can fix their own had now so you can take a break.
Great video Eric O
Mr. O, I am proud of you not making any Squirting, Gushing or Blowing jokes...
You should adopt Hannah, I swear both of you look so related to each other
La cucaracha .... singing skills made my day 😂
Aarrrggghhhh.... another NO BRAKE CLEAN video... no toots, no spritz, no good stuff.... ugh. Good video other than that one gripe.... lol...! Thanks Mr. O, and Hannah the shop girl!
The $295 garden hose option was only offered by FCA in the 2013 model year.
Great video Dr.O but I agree with DIY Misfit " Mechanic" I wish I had just a fraction of bladder control that car had I would be doing great. Anyway another great video until next time PEACE.
my SMA Tee shirt came yesterday!! I wish there was SMA on the back too!!

Or maybe it was that living cockroach and as he passed by he said "Thank you for freeing me!". =)
@@flemardo injecting moisture INTO the frame seems like a good idea. Cant go horribly horribly wrong...
What? No Brake Parts Cleaner? Daaa DAAAAAAM! Makes me smile every time. ;)
Hannas voice sounds very much like my friend Amy. Made me chuckle.

Watch the South Main Auto Honda Ridgeline videos might change your opinion of the greatness of Honda.
the cucaracha song was funny!! keep the good work, i always enjoy your videos. thanks !!!
Eric O., in the know! Making the car's blower blow!
Wow I've never had a plugged up deal like that - just thinking if it wasn't fixed in 5 months it would be froze solid 😅
Had the same plugged drain hose problem a 14 Cubic foot GE fridge luckily without the cockroach.
YIPES!! 1 cockroach usually means MORE present
plugged drains could also cause severe rusting of cabin ,carpeting and floors
you get up way to early, I'm on the west coast, so maybe I'm up too late, anyways thanks for the video's. You're great at teaching me stuff.
Good night to you, I'm about to hit the sack.
it's automated. I bet he posts them the night before and schedules the release for 5am.
Mr. O,. My wife is a nurse and she said you should not be spraying that CRC on your hands like that. She said that can cause alot of health problems. She said that's how you get cancer.
Damn it Hannah. We're talking to the people!

Hanna and my son must have the same thing in common. They go from Casper to Crispy with 2 minutes of sun exposure. :)
WOW, you see some crazy stuff in your shop.
2010 Silverado passenger floor gets a little wet when running ac a lot but is draining outside the drain on firewall also…it’s not coolant in the floor it’s clean water…blew some air inside drain line, still the same
Nice job. La cocaracha no se queta caminad. Nice job of singing
Excelent video erik thanks for sharing.
Watch this video so many times and I'm still surprised at the cricket😳😒😅
thanks for reminding me that i needed to order a new blower for the one that's failing in my car.
Awesome for right turns..when it come down
At least it had a cabin filter. That was funny Eric, lol 🎼🎼La Cucaracha, La Cucaracha🎼🎼
ive always found spider webs as the cause of the clog... the back of a zip tie hooks on to it and pulls it out and also a box leaking rain water from the top does this
Another fine job

Dude, if you see one roach the entire car is infested...
That's a good reason to never eat in the car.
ozone machine will eradicate the buggers
drain outlet old timer cure. Strip a 12 gauge wire 6-8" Secure to the outside of tube loop the wire and insert in drain line. Vibration helps to keep it clean

i had to hit the a/c drain in my chrysler 200 with some air about a month ago every time i took a left it sounded like a trolling motor hittin the lake lol
Had the same thing happen to my sister's 07 Caliber. Took me a while to figure out the sound I was hearing was the blower running in water like a paddle wheel not something engine or suspension related...
Was having all of these issues on top of the heat not working on the passenger side .. could this be the reason?
4:31 if the end of your shaft is rusty your in the wrong hole !
When did car manufactures start installing water hoses on their vehicles?
Sings.....La Cockaroacha, La Cockaroacha!
Would love to see you replace a lower steering column bearing on an early 2000's GM pickup. I've done two and struggled both times...... There are other TH-cam vids on doing this but they didn't help.

10w30 should work just fine....
Funny thing wife called me yesterday floor in spare bedroom was wet turned out to be blocked drain for the central air lol it's that time of year
We call em Palmetto Bugs here in SC. No musics with the spray? Dun dun dun
Wow! That Avenger had to go really bad. Spinning the blower sounds like Darth Vader breathing.
Now THAT is a plugged-up drain.
Thanks! Your vid help me solve my problem
Same problem I think. My connector area looks just like that's wet and rusty. Hoping this will fix it
Ok, commenting before I watch. Gonna go with a bad heater core or the drains are plugged up & ac is filling up & flooding blower motor.
Thank for another great video #southmainautorepair
I've used CLR to clean up the rust on connectors.
I rang the bell but don't hear any ringing. WTH is wrong?
Ozzstar I know, I keep hitting it real fast so the little wings flap but it never takes off, dammit.
Ozzstar the bell must be rusty. Little bit of heat and some PB, should be able to get it moving again.
Maybe you're already a DING DONG Glen?! 🤣
Michael O good point. 😁😂😁
DanInVa good idea 😉
Fan was equivalent to a 7hp evinrude, lol. Not sure if you replaced your Dorman fuel line pistol yet but one is on the way.
