Just bought my son a non runner lt50 for his birthday. Finally got it running with a few new parts but couldn't set the carb up as I have never done it before. This video was super helpful. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for this video! My daughter's little 84' LT50 sits for long periods of time and the carb gets all gummed up. I followed this step by step video and the quad idles like a dream now. Thank you! 👍🏼
Hi Marty, Thank you for this! Brilliant timing mate, we just got ours out and running after a few years of rest. Same condition as yours, due for a refresh (piston & barrel, thinking going large) but still capable of taking a good thrashing like they are made to do. Countless hours of family and neighborhood fun, I wish you well with yours.
Thanks for your videos! I still have my childhood LT50 but the frame was destroyed by a skid steer of all things 😂 So I picked up another LT50 and am going to restore it with my old parts lol Definitely checking out the other videos 👍👍
Hi mate, not long bought an lt50 and having troubles with it, starts up fine on choke and ticks over, soon as either knock choke off (engine dies) or give it any throttle it bogs right out, jets are all clean, I have ordered rebuild kit For carb so will clean it right up then, What do you think it could be? I checked the vacuum pipe from petcock and there’s no cracks but I’m going To replace both fuel lines anyway for the sake it, Thanks Charlie
So if it runs better on choke then you are getting too much air or not enough fuel try the rebuild kit, it's only the main jet I would be worried about then start from the factory car settings and go from there
Hi pal, I have an issue with mine currently well setup, with hell of your videos. So thank you, however I'm running smokey, very smokey. Mix is 55:1 as per previous owners recommendations. Any advice? What are you running yours on. Cheers
@Marty's workshop Hi pal, no it's not burning oil, pan remains circa 500ml. I've only ran it for about 10 mins, as it's still at restoration stage. Although last person for whatever reason had blanked off the crank case breather? Was very odd, unsure why they'd of done that.
Excellent video mate.. I just got my son an lt50 it’s in great shape however it hasn’t started in so long so I changed the petrol and a new spark plug it started but it’s spitting a lot of oil from the exhaust and it’s smoking a lot.. could anyone help me with this one thx
@@Martysworkshop going to play with the cab setting this week after watching this video also used one of your other videos for cleaning jets etc. Cheers
I got a 03 which is exactly same other than looks I needed to watch and see what they set at I was going 2 and half out which is too much so now I know what to do I cleaned it already just been hard to get started
Love your videos been in the shed since 11 following this video but my problem is I've got fuel pissing out the bottom of the carb from a pipe prob over flow pipe
I have done another video explaining how to fix that if it helps just click the link in the description for part 4. Hope this helps and thank you for watching
Brilliant, and great level of detail! This will be a big help! I've just ordered a chain and sprocket set so I can follow your other video. Is it okay to stand the quad on its nose with some fuel in the tank or do you think I should drain it? Many thanks, looking forward to more videos!
I've been tinkering with my carb this afternoon. I can start the bike no problem but it immediately wants to take off. No matter how far I back off the idle screw it makes no difference, the bike is simply revving to high. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Could it be a problem with the throttle cable tension? (If there is such a thing) Many thanks!
@@Martysworkshop Thanks for your response I'll take a closer look at the throttle cable. Unfortunately I had to replace the carb completely so I may not have located the pin properly!
Hi can please help me with my jr50 suzuki carburetor my bike only starts when it's is cold and when I drive it then it gets very very hot and it doesn't want to start when it's hot
I got my daughter one of these, fires up reva up high, then give it some throttle it chokes out and dies, if I don’t touch throttle it dies out eventually, any suggestions?
So your getting to much air then or not enough fuel, I would make sure your jets are clean, also cheak the vacuum pipe from the cylinder to the fuel tap make sure it I'd on and there is no splits in it, after all that set the mixture screw as per standard, run it up on choak and walm it up for atleast 5 mins, if it cuts out and won't run wind the idle up a little bit that shuld help the follow how I set up the carb in part 2. Hope this helps
That is the over flow port to alow excess fuel to leak out of the quad tips over, there should be a pipe there that loops down then hangs under the engine, i have done a fuel leak video that shows you how to adjust this if you have fuel coming out under normal operation, link in description. Thank you for watching and i hope this helps.
Marty another question haha, so the lt i picked up had no air filter lid or filter , i added a filter an lid an won t stay running now if take it off idles fine.. , they had the mixture screw almost falling out could that be the resoning ? An now im having a bog an wanting to stall high throttle without filter an unscrwed out still ..if i add filter does mix screw need to.go.in?
So if you need the filter out then with the filter in you are not getting enough air or you are getting too much fuel, the mixture screw should not be that far out, so if this was me i would strip it down and clean the carb out, know you need to check the needle position and that all the jets are clean and free, then i would put it all back together including filter and cover, and set the screws back to the standard position. Then go from there. I really hope this helps i know how much of a potch these can be. Thank you for supporting the channel
Hey thx for the imfo but i might have figured the bog out , my rubber seal on the top of the throttle cable going into the carb was slid up, slid it back down an now seems to accelerate an not backfire and bog ...was just suckimg air there possibly ?
Thanks for the videos! Trying to get an LT50 going that has been sitting up for a while. Replaced carburetor, then after seeing your video, cleaned and put the old one back on. But I am getting the same problem. The motor will only run with the choke on. if I move it at all, it bogs down and starts to die. The motor will will idle like this but if I give to much throttle it bogs down also. My son is dying to try and ride, but there is very little power of course and the slightest incline and the motor dies. All the gaskets look in tact. How do I know if I have an air leak or not enough fuel? Or what can I check next. Thank you for helping this rookie mechanic and his son.
Hello garret well first thing is if it run on choke then bogs when taken off then you are getting too much air or not enough fuel, first thing i would check is the vacuum pipe that goes from the engine to the fuel tap, this is common for splitting allowing excess air into the cylinder, next check the seal between the carb and intake port, if all is good then it is a mixture issue with your carb, let me know when you have checked these things, then i will talk you through the rest, thank you for supporting the channel
Bro! You nailed it. It wasn’t the hose cracking, but rather it had been pushed off completely during one of the many times I pulled the carburetor off. Can’t believe didn’t see it off. Put hose on, engine getting plenty of fuel, following rest of your steps. Thanks and can’t wait to do more work on the quad with my son.
@@Martysworkshop thanks for the response where does the hose go you hook up to it. Looks like yours doesn't have a hose going off of it either. Is it a breather hose by chance? Thanks for your help
@@Martysworkshop sorry I might have called it the wrong thing. You got two places lines can come in on the carb. The bigger one is for the fuel line coming in from gas tank. Then there is a smaller inlet that seems you don't have it hooked up to a tube. Is that smawr one just a breather tube hook up or something else? Thank you
Im not sure what you mean there is a port on my carb that is missing a pipe but that is just a breather as you say i think you can just loop a pipe down below the carb next to the overflow.
