This is suppose to be the standard uk fees. However I am applying from outside the UK and I just paid £1976 for health surcharge. And the standard service fee is $2002us. This was way more than I actually budgeted for,
Hi @allishacarbon5248, Unfortunately, as we discuss at 05:16 in the video, the conversion fee used is not always a favourable one. Kind regards, The Migrate.org.uk team.
Goodness, me, it's not just me paying $2002us. I ended up paying £2024 in pounds for ihs alone. Out of country spouse visa, I thought they overcharged me. Bank charged an extra £58 for bank transfer currency fee. Luckily i had just enough to cover the payment. As you just said way more than actually planned budge. Shouldn't it have been £1560? For 2.5 years. £624 per year. We applied September 2023
Hi, how much is the extension spouse visa is it the same cost we paid when I applied for spouse visa form the uk And after the extended visa finished do we need to pay for the third time for ILR. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks
The hidden costs on the IHS made me postpone paying for the actual visa fee, I paid whilst abroad and was charged over £500 on top of the IHS. No one from the direct gov could tell me the reason why. I gave up after 2 months and just paid the visa fee then I stumble across this video to see the hidden fees
You cannot escape these charges even if you apply from the UK (as the partner / spouse) and you need to make an out-of country application. I paid an additional £182 because of this.Edit to add: Plus bank charges for the payment of the Home Office fees = £110 (payment from within the UK for a visa application "outside of the UK"). So it may be wise to factor in at least another £300 in the total cost of the application.
@emip3008 thanks for the info, i thought i was alone overpaid or they overcharged me. I applied spouse visa outside country ended up paying IHS in dollars 2002 = £2024 on 15th September 2023. Thought i would pay £1560 for 2.5 years. 624 per year
It cost me a total £3687 for both ihs and visa fee absolute rip off daylight robbery as if the tax I'm paying not enough. And that is just for 2.5 years visa? By the time your partner complete 5 years plus not to mention British Citizen application and passport only lord knows how much one will spend in total. Lord help us 🙏 10k plus 😅
Do documents that were translated for the first Uk Spouse Visa application need to be translated again when applying for the visa extension (from inside the uk)? Surely they don’t expect you to translate the same document twice in just a short time apart?
I don't get the purpose of the IHS fee that needs to be paid upfront - when the visa is granted and the applicant starts working, isn't NHS fees deducted every month from their salary? Also, is there a chance when applying for a skilled worker visa the sponsor / employer to cover this cost?
Hi @humanityunleashed, Unfortunately, many people share your surprise that the IHS fee is mandatory. Hi if currently I have submitted a uk divorce ( divorced over 2 years ago but not submitted) that’s still in working progress can I still apply for a spouse visa at the same time thanks in advance
Hi, question. My Fiance is pregnant and we will be submitting the application within a month. Is it required to disclose the pregnancy during the application, and if so does the financial requirement go up the same way that it would if the child was already born?
Hi @neopagan3001, Applicants are not required to disclose that they are pregnant. Being pregnant does not increase the minimum income threshold. There are, however, other things that you will need to consider, such as their ability to fly to the UK during the pregnancy. Furthermore, you've mentioned that your partner is looking to apply for a fiancé(e) visa. Please note that, since fiancé(e) visa applications do not pay the IHS, they will not be automatically entitled to free NHS care. I hope the above helps, The Migrate.org.uk team.
@@MigrateOrgUk Thank you for your response! How about if the pregnancy is shown on her TB test results? If the case officer sees this, would this impact the application?
What if someone is married to a doctor who works for the NHS? .. does the fee still apply? Health and care worker visa applicants are not required to pay the IHS fee.
I'm completing the spouse visa application for my wife. I've now come to the payment screen and only get the standard option. Does that mean the priority is not available for my wife? Or do I pay the standard fee first, and then the priority option will be available? I paid the IHS charges. It charged me in dollar. Is this normal? I am making an application outside the UK as my wife is not in the UK.
Hi, my wife is going to apply soon if we pay for “keep my passport option” both of us have French passport so we travel freely to the Uk. Will the application be affected ? If not does she have to go back to the visa center in France for them to stamp the visa in her passport ?
Hi @houdya2238, French nationals who have opted for the "Keep my passport" service can enter the UK as a visitor whilst the out-of-country spouse visa application is being processed - as long as they meet the visitor requirements. They will, however, need to return to the country in which the application was submitted to resubmit their passport and then subsequently collect the entry clearance visa. They will then be expected to enter the UK on that visa. I hope the above helps. Kind regards, The Migrate.org.uk team.
@@MigrateOrgUk That’s helps a lot. I have another question, I am settled in the Uk under the eu settlement scheme i have been working here and paying taxes for many years. My wife is currently pregnant, i know that she won’t be able to claim for any benefits because of the visa that we are going to apply for. She’s due to give birth soon, if I do claim the benefits that I am entitled for my baby. Will this affect my wife’s visa ?

Hi @namgaywangdi174, The fees discussed in this video relate to UK spouse visa applications where the sponsor (the "UK partner") is: -A British Citizen in the UK; or -‘Present’ and ‘Settled’ in the UK; or -Someone who has been granted Settled or Pre-Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme; or -In the UK with refugee leave or with humanitarian protection; or -Someone in the UK with limited leave as a worker or business person under Appendix ECAA Extension of Stay. Hi @tipai3718, You can pay the IHS fee before you are ready to submit the application. It does not need to be paid on the same day as paying the Home Office fee. However, there is no benefit to paying the IHS fee before paying the Home Office fee. I would recommend considering keeping the funds in your bank account until you are ready to pay both the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and Home Office fee. The reason for this is because the date that the application is submitted (and therefore the date that the requirements must be met) is the date that you pay the Home Office fee - not the Immigration Health Surcharge.
