Stunning performance, fabulous piece from my favourite composer. I listen to this at least twice a week.

Sometimes we just need beautiful sounds. It gives us a little peace in a troubled world.

it is a really nice concert full of lovely harmony and ideas....i heard many other concerts which are more popular but not really better or interesting......it is nice to enjoy for a relaxing time ...sad the audience is so thin present....

Such a lovely work. Glad this performance is shared on TH-cam given the thin audience on the day! Thank you

Really nice from start to finish! R3 never play it which is a shame. Wonder why it's single ww?

Absolutely agree with you. ClassicFM spoil so many works by ignoring neighbouring movements of great compositions.

Superb account of this work, although a lightweight concerto it was a thoroughly enjoyable performance. Pity the patronage was not better, because it deserved more. Excellent pianist and clear to follow conductor. Impressed.

Lightweight? A bit snobbish, and damning with faint praise for what has been described as one of the greatest piano concertos by an expert. Just because the composer cut his teeth on film and television music does not make him lightweight,

@@paulmitchell563 I am very well qualified to express a valid opinion both as orchestral leader and music lecturer at University. I actually praised the performance appropriately and wasn’t snobbish in the least. Your response was a strange one to me.

@@Dr_Steve_J I think you just demonstrated your snobbery. I stand by Classic FM's list of "The 20 best piano concertos of all time." Nigel Hess' piece was the only one I did not know beforehand, but it proved for me to be a worthy addition to the list - in my ever so humblest of opinions.

Interesting piece and style. A bit convensional in harmonic structure but better than than most of the dreck out there now

Sorry to report typos in public but the
first movement says the s i m l e instead of the smile.
I love the first two movements but I'm not so keen on the third. The piece reminds me of Rachmaninov.
