I saw this concerto on Nov 4, 2023 played by Thibaudet and conducted by Dudamel with the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra. This was by far the best interpretation of this concerto I've heard in my life. Thibaudet was unbelievable and Dudamel was fantastic. Together they brought this piece to such a high level that would make Khachaturian extremely happy and proud. I can't complement enough about this performance, all I can say is that I couldn't stop yelling "Bravo" at the end.

Okay, I see everyone praising Thibaudet and rightly so. But what makes this performance great is an outstanding orchestra and a conductor who knows his stuff. Khatchaturian's music is rhythmically complex, so the interplay between soloist and accompaniment makes or breaks this concert. A heartfelt Bravo to the OdP and Yamada.
Except that Thibaudet takes a completely different tempo when he comes in. It’s like they never rehearsed, or had different ideas about tempo. Listen carefully. The orchestra is behind the first few measures. I personally like the conductor’s tempo better. I’ve played this Concerto several times. It was the first Concerto I learned in college. en mono, il y a celle de W.Kapell avec Koussevitsky, très belle
Benjamin Brown check out oscar levants
A Piano Concerto and a Violin Concerto that both need to be programmed more. They stand up with the best that the 20th Century has to offer.
Just out of curiosity, what do you think of his cello concerto?
@@maandahhan4900 Admirable, but not quite up to the standard of the piano and violin works.
Tremendously propulsive performance! Fell in love with Kapell's performance on LP when I first heard this concerto at age 14 (63 years ago).
AVEVO ASCOLTATO IL CONCERTO ANNI FA...(ho 90 anni) .ECCELLENTE ESECUZIONE E BRAVISSIMO IL PIANISTA.....GRAZIE....!!!!
I’m from Russia. And we know music of Khachaturian from childhood. It’s one of the greatest composers of classical music of all time. And this interpretation of this concerto is incredible. You want to live after that. And of course it’s a soul of Armenia that very very close for Russian people. Thank a lot by Thibaudet and Yamada
Purtroppo, per mia ignoranza, non conoscevo questo concerto ed e' stata una magnifica rivelazione, grazie!!! E' splendido e travolgente. L'esecuzione è, secondo me, impeccabile, CHE BELLO; BRAVI!!!!! Comprerò subito il disco!!!!!!
Amazing Khachaturian❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤,I love his music so much❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Excelente! Magnífica interpretación del majestuoso concierto. Tanto la Filarmónica como el gran Pianista se entregaron en cuerpo y alma en la interpretación de esta complicada obra maestra. Felicitaciones!!!
One of my very few recorings of any music in the late 1940's. Playing this on a player and speaker combo, I didn't hear much of the quieter passages. This music and a couple of other classical pieces got me through many "allnighters".
An amazing performance of an amazing work
Probably the only Piano Concerto to include a Flexatone. What an superb work!
Not used here, however!

Yes, I was looking for that!! but did not find here!
I was wondering what instrument was making those sounds!
@@farhadnawab7642It was used, just not shown on camera. I guess there is a danger in highlighting such an odd instrument.
Just sublime. I've got to watch this more times.
I've never seen a piano player quite as "feeling himself" as this- and I can certainly see why. Magnificent piece!
Fun fact: This song is what my grandmother played which attracted her husband, an opera singer, in 1964. What a strange feeling that gives this song...
probably best performance!!! i am shocked! French and japanese play armenian music like they were born in Armenia and lived there whole life. absilutely genial playin!!! bravooooooo!!!
Jean is special indeed, but highly underrated, always admire his work as soloist and accompanist.
Wow, how can I have gotten to 48 years of age without realizing that Khachaturian had written a piano concerto?!?! I only know him for the Gayaneh Suite.
should definitely check out Spartacus if you get a chance!
Listen to his violin concerto !!!
My favorite piece by Khachaturian is his 3rd Symphony. I love the interplay of the organ and the orchestra, it's not something we get to hear very often. And of course, like most Caucasian orchestral music, it has plenty of loud trumpets and plenty of percussion.
Giya Kancheli and Avet Terterian are a couple of other really good classical composers from the Caucasian region that are worth checking out.
I remember having loved this when I was young. (am now 85) Just rediscovered Khatchachurian again, and I realise more than ever why I love it so much !Strange how one can be English/ Norwegian, living most of one's life in France, and suddenly feel Armenian so deeply! Wonderful music, wonderful performance ! THANKYOU !❤❤❤❤❤
Naysayers aside, Thibaudet is brilliant in this
neglected masterpiece. We are blessed to have his performance.
This is one of my favorite concertos ('specially the 2nd movement) and I enjoyed his interpretation very much. BRAVO!
Just love Khachaturian.
What a strange love...
Bravo, I love classical music, I love piano concerts. Thanks for posting it.
This is terrific
Like I'm hearing this concerto for the first time.
Number 1 Pianist !!! ❤Can’t stop enjoy ☀️☀️☀️♥️♥️♥️
this really should be played on the stage more often.
Most definitely agree...didn´t know this concerto and absolutely love it!
Awesome interpretation......wonderful concerto!
oh my god i finally found the piece that was stuck in my head... i had been humming 1:39 for ages
Why doesn't it get played more? Well, hard to get hold of pianists this good, for starters.
I. Allegro ma non troppo e maestoso 0:14
II. Andante con anima 14:37
III. Allegro brillante 24:57
I daresay this
masterpiece is
the greatest work
of art to ever come out of
Armenia, or even the greatest THING!
Except for thousands of devoted Christians!!!
@@susanhawkins3890 yes!
What about Khachaturian's violin concerto? :))
What about Sergey Khachatrayan?
I have loved and played this Concerto since a student after hearing the great Leonard Pennario perform it. This performance is exciting too.
AMASING KOMPOCER-AND A SENSIBLE PIANIST- FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS KOMPONIST- I CLOSED MY EIES AND STANGE
FIGURES-FULL IMAGINATION GREAT EN MOTION---
the arpeggios at 6:30 are absolutely majestic
Fantastic !
8:12 i know this bass player ! He was playing sometimes at the Orchestre National du Capitole, but i didn't see him for a long time :(
He always showed a smiling face when he played and that was so enjoyable !
