1000000%, given Letterman was Conan's mentor and hero. He has to have known, deep down, it was at least a possibility.

Interesting point because I've seen so many people online brush off the Conan tonight show situation because NBC gave Conan 40 million after kicking him out, bit it's obvious Conan wanted the Tonight show for more than just the money and the fame.
