    This song means so much to me...this guy did a cover. The real Garth version is better. This was the one and only song I danced to with my dad before he took his life when I was a teenager. It always gives me goosebumps..its been 23 yrs and I'm grateful for every day I had with him.

    This song is actually played a lot for daddy daughter dances at the daughters wedding. In the lyrics he says "I could have missed the pain, but I would have had to miss the dance", Meaning he could have just not had a child and avoided the pain of them growing up and leaving, but then he would have had to miss the lovely dance that they get to share at her wedding. HER dance (because every woman has a dance with her dad at her wedding)

    • @dudesonismyhero
      @dudesonismyhero 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s funny because the writer Tony Arata based the song on a movie where a woman went back in time and decided not to marry her husband, which erased her children in the future. For Garth it meant something completely different.
      “to me it's always been a song about life. Or maybe the loss of those people that have given the ultimate sacrifice for a dream that they believed in, like the John F. Kennedy's or the Martin Luther King's. John Wayne's or the Keith Whitley's. And if they could come back, I think they would say to us what the lyrics of The Dance' say."
      It’s so cool how people can hear the same song and take a completely different message away from it.

    This song makes me think of a good friend of mine. I didn't have long with him, barely a year but he was one of the best friends I have EVER had and this song makes me think of us. I could have avoided the pain of his sudden death, but I would have missed out on his presence. Sometimes...the pain is worth it.

  • @ncboarderboy
    @ncboarderboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A lot of people don’t truly understand the meaning of this song, it’s not really a breakup song and has a lot deeper meaning, it is just using that as a reference. When he says “the dance we shared under the moon and stars” is a reference to your life. It is saying that if we know how things will go we might change our decisions out of fear, trying to avoid the painful parts and miss some beautiful moments in life and that it is better left to chance. When he says “if I knew how the king would fall, you know I might of changed it all” this is a reference to the bull rider Lane Frost who died in the ring and how he could have warned him if he knew it was going to happen but then he might have given up bull riding which was the thing that brought him joy.

    Back in 2007 my husband had a saddle clot and the doctors didn't think he would live. None of the drugs they used were working. It came down to one last powerful drug. I had to sign for them to give him this specific medicine because there was a good chance that he would bleed out and die. (He had just had surgery a few days before ). I sobbed because I felt if he died it would have been my decision that caused it. Through that first week I realized that there was a good chance I was going to have to plan a funeral and figure out who I was without my husband. I didn't know. He had been my everything. This song had always been a favorite of mine, but during those painful days it almost became an anthem in my mind. Yes, I might have to experience a broken heart but I would never have given up the 10 years we had had together. I knew he loved me and was my best friend. I am just grateful that our "Dance" has been able to continue.

    If you go to Wikipedia.com and type in Garth Brooks awards you will see an insane amount of awards won especially in the 1990's. He won Entertainer of the Year and Male vocalist of the year so many times he actually admitted to being embarrassed, he didn't think it was fair to the other country artists and it was one of the reasons he decided to retire. He is a very humble man and couldn't understand why he kept winning these awards over other country artists who he considered to be just as good as or better then him and he wanted them to have a chance to win too.

    I mentioned on an earlier video that you should do a week of Chris Ledoux.
    Fun Fact: Garth and Chris were very good friends. Garth mentions Chris in "Much too Young (To Feel this Damn Old)" and after Chris died Garth released the song "Good Ride Cowboy" as a tribute to him.
    Chris is extremely good. This is coming form a guy who is more into rock and metal than country, but growing up and living in Alabama my whole life, I understand and appreciate good country music.
    Your will greatly enjoy your week of Alan Jackson that you have upcoming. He is amazing as well.

    Garth is the G.O.A.T.. you got that right. it's too bad you can't see his videos, they are so good, I too didn't think that sounded like the original "The Dance" ... but it was a good cover.... Krazy... you have to get Garth's greates hits, he has sooo many great songs, and he is a such a nice guy on top of it all.... I'm so glad you found the G.O.A.T...

    Rodeo! Aside from shameless and friends in low places, it's his best song. That's gotta be in the week of Garth

    The difference in the voices are soooooo drastic - listen to it by Garth (then go search Kelly Clarkson’s version when they inducted Garth at Kennedy Center honors) amazing!

    Garth Brooks just recently hurt his hand in a farming accident. Like 4 days ago.

    I grew up listening to Garth as a kid. I lived through his rise during the 90's. His concert was my very first, at like 10 years old. I still have all of my cassette tapes of his albums.
    As a kid, this was just another great song of his. As an adult, having lived through similar circumstances, this song hurts. It's one of only two songs to ever make me cry, and I usually avoid it. I thought that after enough time, it would heal. It's been like 5 years since I last heard it.
    I didn't even make past the first verse...
    Anyways, if you want another amazing country artist from around that time, check out Randy Travis. His love songs are fucking smooth, dude. "Forever and Ever, Amen" or "Deeper Than The Holler" are good starting points.

    That is definitely Garth. The only reason it sounds different is this was a studio version not live.

    You should go through Jamey Johnson songs. Start with In Color, The Dollar, Flying Silver Eagle, Ray Rays Juke joint, High cost of living, That lonesome Song, etc. these are just my favorites
