I laughed so hard at this when you realized what the song was about. 😂😂😂 Welcome the world of every 90's kid raised on country music. We all love this song cuz it's upbeat and sounds fun, then you hit the age where you start understanding the lyrics, like what did he just say? 😂😂😂 We pretty much all had the same reaction you just did. It's great. 😂

My rockin’ favorites from Garth are That Summer; Standing Outside the Fire; Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up); Callin’ Baton Rouge; Rodeo; and Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House. My emotional favorites of his are If Tomorrow Never Comes; Unanswered Prayers; Wolves; What She’s Doing Now; The River; Learning to Live Again; That Ol’ Wind; Somewhere Other Than The Night; Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old); The Dance; She’s Every Woman; and In Lonesome Dove. But his most powerful songs are Mom; The Thunder Rolls; The Night I Called The Old Man Out; We Shall Be Free; and The Change.

I've known this song since the late 90's. A remix about the kids never even entered my mind. Genius!

It's country music no remix needed. Lots of family they are raising the kids. They just take a punch and move on. 🙂

His truck was buried in the local motel. The desk clerk said he saw it all real clear, he never hit the breaks as he was shifting gears.
Mama was in the motel with her beau. Papa ran the truck right into the motel room killing Mama.
My hubs was a trucker for years. It's not easy having them gone for weeks at a time. BUT they're doing a hard job, being away from their families too, trying to provide for them. Sure we have Skype now and Facetime, but back when the song was written, those things didn't exist. Hell, cell phones were just starting to become more common.

This song was written from a news article which depicted the scene described in the song. He drove the truck through the wall of the motel. Where his wife was with another man. He didn't run her down on the street. Hence the big rig hurried in the motel

This is country's "she fucked about and found out" song.
Country doesn't discuss outright murder much. "Cocaine" by Johnny Cash, "That Georgia Sun is blood red and going down" by Tanya Tucker and "The Night the lights went out in Georgia" by Reba are the ones that readily come to mind. Also "Country Folk can survive" by Hank Williams Junior.

Oh, and he tells the story of this in his recorded one man show at the Wynn in Vegas. They were one song short on the album when one of his songwriter buddies came into the session. "Hey Garth! Got a song for you!" "What is it? Can I see it?" "Haven't written it yet." Dude handed over a newspaper with a grainy picture of a semi buried in the local no-tell motel. It said there were no survivors. "It's a love song. We should write it." Garth said he looked at his buddy in disbelief. "THIS is a LOVE song?" "It's a love song. We should write it." So they sat down and 20 minutes later, Papa Loved Mama was born. 🤣😂🤣

So he found out she was at the local motel with another guy, hence “papas rig was buried in the local motel” and he was shifting gears while he drove it through the room she was in. Crazy song but still one of my favorites. Also impressed you actually found Garth on TH-cam.

I have listened to Garth since he started. The dance is a tribute favorite to one of my best friends of 34 years. Two of a kind is one of my husband of 30 years and I songs. And much too young is my best friend of 33 years song.
A good Country musician, spins a yarn or just tells a good story.
