WHAT WE COVER IN THIS VIDEO
How is writing your book like building a stone step?
02:05 *Clear the deck*: Here's how to get yourself ready for writing. We cover our writing process and how we silence the crazy thoughts.
04:52 *Select the stones*: These are the ideas you select that will develop into chapters in your book. We cover non-fiction, memoir, and fiction.
06:00 *Change the stones' positions*: Rearrange your book as you rewrite, letting ideas evolve and figuring out how they fit together.
07:45 *Use the right cement*: Pay attention to the interstitial parts that pull together your non-fiction, novel, or memoir. Many people make the mistake of writing a chronological memoir or novel.

I'm not kidding, this was the most helpful educational piece and metaphor about structure that I've ever encountered. Thank you thank you thank you. I've been completely stuck on this very thing. Now I know what I need to do. The comedy and the interplay between your personalities is equally essential to the education. And I've already read all the highfalutin stuff about structure and taken classes. This was the best thing ever.

You are amazing as always. I have a question. After years of plotting and finishing my debut novel, I am stuck at "the hook". ALl my Betas( strangers of all ages and with all sorts of interests) have given me the thumbs up, and I know it's a good novel, I just cannot define the genre and the "hook" for my query. I am in tears over not finding the "hook" -- and having already garnered the first rejections( based on query alone)-- in a story full of twists( well plotted ) and in which I don't want to spoil anything. Please, help me.

@@TheBookDoctors Hi! I know! I visited your lovely and informative website. I wish I could afford you, bur for now I think I will keep re-working it. Could you though perhaps make a video on "plot". I see a looot of query criticisms in general, where one says " I don't see a plot". What exactly defines plot in a query letter? Have a great day, greetings from Greece
