I really had trouble finishing the video as I was trying to listen but couldn't stop just enjoying your patter between you two (while you were helping me) ..I watched it and took notes. IF I RUN INTO A WALL - I have to say, I love you two VERY much! You are good people with deep hearts and spirits....and it is amazing to me that somehow I found you. GOOD ON YOU! David started out his career as a standup, so your words mean a lot to him--and to me!
I submitted my manuscript to a publisher and one hour after I emailed the manuscript the publisher emailed me a contract, I was so excited, I forgot logic and caution, he didn't ask for money but he wanted to copyright my manuscript under his name. It took me 1 month to find a lawyer who specialized in literary contracts, lawyer told me to not sign contract, but by that time the publisher rescinded his offer to publish.

I absolutely love this video. I just had aMacmillan preacquisition offer with a litarcy agent I was on the top list number 13 out of 100 but to move on to get my $500k contract I had to pay for $5000 license fees to republish my book each state and internationally. Scam. I really wanted it to be real.

What would you suggest someone do if a publisher publishes a book without the author’s approval and puts book on Amazon. In Amazon he has it listed under his company so he is receiving any sales that are generated. I have an attorney but, I’m trying to get the book pulled from Amazon
Atiyah Brown, years ago, a book of mine was published on lulu.com and the "publisher" was supposed to be paying me royalities but wasn't. I contacted lulu and told them I was the author and what was happening. They removed it. You might try that.
Definitely contact a lawyer and Amazon. That's terrible! So sorry to hear you're going through this.
Arielle and David, do you have a list of scam "publishers" that you can share with us? Kind of like a "bad trick" list? :)
I wish we did! the IBPA tried to assemble one, but it was too hard to keep up with the scammers and those who were borderline that they gave up.

I believe I have been scammed by Your OnLine Publicist. They said I signed electronically and read the contract but that is not my signature nor had I seen the contract before. My husband has taken charge of this problem. They constantly call to harass. I am also over a 100% disabled Veteran my disability is suicidal depression with Alchohol Dependency with special compensation because my husband has to keep watch over me and I can not be financially responsible watched your video Thanks for the information.

We haven't heard of them. But if you do the research we recommend in the video, it should be easy to find out if they are legit or not.

Hi I’m a first time author and I received a message from Olympia Publishers for a hybrid deal. They asked for money. Is Olympia Publishers credible?
We are not familiar with them, but please do your research! If they are up front about being a hybrid publisher, there are fees involved.

I've been on correspondence with one who says they would own 50% rights to my book. Is that legit? I haven't found any info about them being scams
No, that is not right. You should own the copyright to your book 100%. Other rights, like the publishing rights, film rights, foreign rights, are split in lots of different ways.

Sadly, I fell for IUniverse about 15 years ago. At the time, there was very little information available about scammers. And because I look like an easy mark, I still get calls from scammers all the time regarding that book or any other books I might be writing.
