Thanks for watching! If this does well enough we may do one next year ;)
10
The Quest for El Dorado (Jeffrey), Brass: Birmingham (John)
9
Vindication (Jeffrey), On Mars (John)
8
Inis (Jeffrey), Pax Pamir (Second Edition) (John)
7
Moon Rakers (Jeffrey), Dwellings of Eldervale (John)
6
Divided Empire (Jeffrey), Ark Nova (John)
5
Nemesis: Lockdown (Jeffrey), Kanban EV (John)
4

3
Blood on the Clocktower (Jeffrey), Kanban EV (John)
2
Dwellings of Eldervale (Jeffrey), Dune: Imperium (John)
1
Root (both Jeffrey and John)
Some of these are incorrect. Jeff 10 is vindication. Jeff 6 is Divide et Impera :)
@@ChitsandCardboard ah, my bad. I have to admit I was playing around with running the transcript through Claude and GPT to create that. I'm a jackass for not confirming the results. Thanks for clarifying and I apologize for the error.
@@galaga00 never a jackass :) I appreciate you! Thanks for clarifying, that makes sense
Great list, fellas. We accept this call-out, we're going to take some time to think about our actions and the harm we've caused, and then we're gonna put out some even worse takes and stand by them just as fiercely.
Fantastic. We are looking forward to it!
Lol I 💯 hate on the muted, terrible graphic design. That’s def why it took us so long to play, but as to my feelings about it, I’m still undecided! I enjoyed it solo, and was enjoying it at 2pl. I just wasn’t convinced it would be a top fav game for me. I need to play it more, but my Player 1 is gonna be hard to convince because I’ve had trouble getting him past the boring look. Gotta say, I get it! 🤷🏻♀️
@MeeplesandBaneenees that's OK Alba. We forgive you ;)
We have very different tastes in games, but I enjoyed your positive energy and enthusiasm!
Well we appreciate that!!! What would a few of your faves be?
I agree. You both have a very specific taste when it comes to board games.
@_HungS0L0_ we play a ton of games together so that makes sense. Keep in mind this also means our exposure to games is similar:). I (john) prefer euro style games though, where jeff prefers area control and direct conflict.
Awesome list!
First time seeing you guys, love your top 10 list, lots of great games I love.
Thanks for watching! Which ones stood out for you??
Love your lists!!! ❤
Thank you!!!!!
I've always wondered about Vindication. Just received my Unsettled reprint and Orange Nebula are game making geniuses!
If we had played more unsettled, it would've been on this list!
Own both and love them both for different reasons. But both are easily in my top 10.
seeing Inis a lot in pleoples' top 10, love it. Great list guys
Inis is a fantastic game :) thanks for watching!
Inis is my definition of a perfect game. If there is such thing, it's Inis
I like a lot of the games you guys like! It's like my top 10 can be made out of the 20 games you choose
That's always a good sign :)
Excellent picks! Love that Root made your number ones! It means I can confidently check out the other games on your lists knowing you have great tastes ;) Also love Blood on the Clocktower and Spirit Island. If you've not tried Mythic Mischief I'd give that a go as it feels aligned with what you both might like.
We would love to try Mythic Mischief! I have played the app, but never a physical copy :) I will preface with the fact that the Lacerda games are big shifts from our usual, but definitely let us know if you try something!!
@@ChitsandCardboard Ah great! Since the app came out and they were able to collect a lot of data from the player base, they've buffed and nerfed a lot of the factions so the app is more up-to-date at this point. I'll probably spring for the physical game only after they've finalised all the faction changes into a 2nd edition.
Your list made me want to particularly try out Pax Pamir 2 as that's also Cole Wehrle's work. They just released a tutorial on BGA so I'll be diving into that soon!
It's not much like Root, but a very very cool card market-driven area control game
@@ChitsandCardboard Yeah, Root is definitely Cole's most famous game and it's famous for its asymmetry but the dynamic he's most interested in exploring is the political above-the-table conflicts that are present in John Company and Oath.
Root is absolutely goated. Ty
The best of the best. Objectively, of course
Nice list, personally find Root pretty easy to teach! Agreed on 5 player count too!
5PMasterRace
There are a few on here that I haven't tried yet, but they sound intriguing. Overall, great list!
Thanks!! Which ones?
Dune Imperium and Pax Pamir have been on my list for a minute :) @@ChitsandCardboard
@biomeboardgame well you know we love em already but they're both so unique and so different. Depends on who you play with, but you can't go wrong with either :)
Love the energy. Great Video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the comment much appreciated we hope you like our upcoming stuff!
Really great list! Would you be able to share a link to where the “better” combat rules can be found for Dwellings of Eldervale? I’ve been trying to scour bgg but the forum search feature is difficult to find precise answers. Really appreciate the help. Thanks!
Per Luke Laurie, just pull the combat rules out of Andromeda's edge with the various class of ships and apply them to the unit types respectively! Thanks for watching :)
Fantastic video. Glad to have found the channel! -abroadgame
Hey thanks for checking in and watching :)
Great list! My number 1 is definitely Dune Imperium, other favourites include Brass Birmingham, Inis, Spirit Island.
You have great taste 🔥👀
Great video, great game choices. I'm in Vancouver but if I ever make it to Toronto for a convention I would totally hit either or both up for a game of Inis or Dune: Imperium.
I completely agree with you about Immortality and I have yet to play Uprising myself also. I'm not sure if I prefer 3 or 4 players best but I think the game is still extremely good even at 2.
"Heat is a perfect game."
What a great way to describe it. The only non solo game I have played was 4 players, one who confused it with Formula D rules and was too far behind to catch up. 3rd finished one space behind the other two in a wild finish. You can't get any better than that.
Do either of you have an opinion on Seasons of Inis? Another one I'm looking forward to playing some day. Ark Nova is our most played game and the Marine Worlds expansion is fantastic. Lots of little tweaks, improved and extra final scoring cards and the variable action cards are the best addition.
Thanks for your energy and enthusiasm. Subscribing now, look forward to more videos.
So, lots to reply to here.
If you're ever in Toronto, yes, give us a shout. We are down to play whatever!
Immortality, yeah not amazing but not bad. Could take or leave. We have played uprising since and it is definitely solid!
Seasons of Inis is fantastic and really helps tie the game together. Strong recommend. Also the game is awesome at 5
I love your number 1. I agree!
One of us, one of us!
I really resonate with Jeff’s top10
What does your Top 10 look like!
Yaaaaassss!!! What's your top 10 look like? Even just a few if you can't think of 10 off the top of your head.
Good list. I like Root, but typically only have two people to play. Recently bought the hirelings and clockwork to see how that will play with two. By the way, you definitely have to play Dune Imperium: Uprising - SO good! Even more fun. You won’t go back to the other.
We like hirelings for two as well! As for Uprising, it's on our list, just gotta get it played :) thanks!
two lacerdas in one list? im glad somebody gets it. subbed.
I own every big box Lacerda, I definitely get it :) Thanks for watching. Which is your favourite?
I’m always sad when I see root at the top as it kills my motivation to learn or buy other games now and I’ve played root so much!
Hahaha other games are definitely still worth playing, but Root is so so so good.
Great lists and very fun rapport! You got yourselves a new subscriber 😉👍
Here is my top 10:
Ark Nova
Dune: Imperium/Uprising
A Feast for Odin
Arkham Horror: The Living Card Game
Heat: Pedal to the Metal
Dead Reckoning
Castles of Mad King Ludwig
Earth
Scarface 1920
Ra
Haha thanks! We appreciate you joining our journey! I'd love to play Dead Reckoning, I just got it! We loved Earth :) I'm awaiting my copy of Scarface via the reprint but am also excited! - John
@@ChitsandCardboard Dead Reckoning has become a favorite for my group. Scarface certainly isn't for everyone, but if your group likes getting in each other's faces it'll be a hit 😉
Great list there are a few items there that I need to still play. Especially A Feast for Odin!
Definitely play On Mars first. It was my first and favorite Lacerda game.
Definitely one of his best, and I'm super excited for Speakeasy!!
Just curious... Jeff mentioned that John was going to throw "Blood on the Clocktower," quarterly parties. But it's not on John's list. An oversight, or was any social deduction game going to have a hard time cracking John's top 20 solely due to it's nature? Thanks!
John here. Great question! I don't really consider BoTC to be a board game or even a tabletop game. It's phenomenal but I hadn't included it in my pubmeeple for the list. If I had, it'd likely be around number 13!
Hi! Where are those shiny metal coins from in the Brass Birmingham B roll?
They're amazing! They're from Pirate Gold Poker :) we are making a vid about them soon
I own all but 3 games. Subscribed 😂
Thanks for watching 🔥 Which three?!
@@ChitsandCardboard yeah now I am curious too!
Now onto your top solo games!
👀👀
I'm definitely gonna have to try Root tonight. I just have the base game. Going 3 players is in the base game.
Enjoy it!!!
You should play Kanban EV for your first Vital Lacerda game
Kanban EV is also a good start, I just think The Gallerist is more approachable. All his games are fantastic, though, and if you ever buy one, you can't go wrong with any of them.
For HEAT is there viable come back potential if the lead racer is very far ahead? I despise games that the outcome is inevitable, but you have to go through the motions to just finish it.
Yes. Absolutely!
My Top-10 Board Games of All Time:
10. Nemesis 10* Nemesis: Lockdown
6. Mage Knight - świetny klimat, świetny świat, po prostu Mage Knight !!
5. Anachrony - bardzo fajnie pomyślany świat i klimatyczna gra
4. Łowcy A. D. 2114 - o jaka ta gra jest klimatyczna i dopracowana…
3. Etherfields - klimat tej gry, mechanika i piękne grafiki urzekły mnie...
2. Scythe - klimat tej gry jest genialny... Świetnie odzwierciedla klimat konfliktu...
1. Bonfire - jak wzajemnie zazębiają się mechaniki w tej grze, to jest po prostu niesamowite !!
What is the game that is going to be a legacy version of dwellings of eldervale?
I meant it is being legacied as in... replaced. :) that game is Andromeda's Edge.
Is board game arena newbie friendly? I’m trying to get into board games.
Absolutely!! It even has tutorials for most games and ensures via rankings you won't play against experts
@@ChitsandCardboard thank you. I appreciate the info
Root is amazing but since the android and ios app came out i have found no reason at all to bring it to the table. The digital version solves all movement mistakes and any other small rules that are easily forgotten. Have you played the digital version? If so what do you think?
We love the digital version, but I still think the tabletop version warrants frequent play. It's just such a great way for 4 or 5 people to spend a couple hours. We host weekly game nights though so, it makes it easier to table consistently.
I absolutely prefer the tabletop version but I play the digital pretty often and with a few friends as well. I have it on android and steam. Once we get a discord channel together in the future I'd be down to play some Root with ya.
Voidfall on the list and Root number 1? My guys you need to play Twilight Imperium 4.
TI4 is fantastic but it's impossible for us to co-ordinate a group to play it. It's one of my best experiences ever though - John
Voidfall ❤❤❤
Interesting thoughts on Root player count. I really didn't like adding in Hirelings but did so because playing with 3 without isn't great. I think 4 is the best player count, followed by 5. 5 just makes the game slightly longer for me. Its a shame... Root is my favorite game as well, but just so hard for me to get to the table!
We table Root a bunch! I don't think all hirelings are made equal, but it's a fun aspect to worry about at 3. I just loooove Root at 5. If everyone knows what's going on, it's ripping fast, too! I think playing with the same group consistently helps though, and we do play it in streaks.
Here’s my current list:
1. Marvel Champions
2. Cloudspire
3. Voidfall
4. Pax Pamir
5. Final Girl
6. Bloodstones
Some great picks here!! Can't wait to try Cloudspire
Are you guys from Missouri?
Just north of Toronto!
Dune at 2 players sucks IMO. I can see how one could overlook its greatness having never played with 3+ players.
As can we. We are just pushing for a redo!
Only played dune once (I won) but didn't like it at all because just playing cubes and completely forgetting the theme! I was not on Dune at all! Never again!
Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it. It's more about the politics of dune than the wars, honestly
Nemesis, fun? More like a grueling 6 hours IMHO. I also played Lockdown and it was basically the same thing… 6 hours of getting beat down and then losing. Pass.
Sorry you feel that way. I understand it though, taken seriously the game can be super frustrating.
Great list but, can we all just stop ripping on all the older classics like Risk , Monopoly, etc. etc. etc.. I would love for one of these list makers to have like, Sorry, in their top ten. They are games handed down from generations and still enjoyed to this day. Anyway, sorry for ranting. Great list.
Thanks for commenting and watching. I don't think it's unreasonable to say games have improved over time. I think you can appreciate the classics while being thankful of the advancements.
A lot of cult of the new here, oldest game is Inis from 2016 and all the rest are 2018 or later
Well, we both started playing board games after 2018, so that would make sense!
Top 20!!! Shouldn't this video be called Top 20 Board Games Of All Time....?!!?
We did another video for 20-11!!!
