So Jo and I played Agricula at a Board game cafe - they taught us the game very quickly - we were having a great time and we felt like we were winning - when we suddenly remembered we had not been feeding the family - ever!! Needless to say I couldn't talk Jo into ever playing again. I wanted to learn the game. Ah - life! Thanks for sharing your lists!
I just recently got into board gaming because of your channel! Jamie's Final Girl ranking video introduced me to Final Girl, and it's easily my favorite board game now. I've been meaning to try out Obsession too; based on your recommendation, I think I have to!
Thank you for highlighting both Vast and Mansions of Madness here. I love both games for different reasons, but neither one gets much attention on other channels. Vast is one of the most difficult teaches I have experienced as a game teacher which makes it tough for people who haven't played it to get on board. Mansions is just a great co-op with so much story and as a dungeon crawl it really hits as a timed mystery to be solved.
Thanks for the video, and great list! I see a lot of super crunchy games in there, which for us are out of reach, so im glad to see mansions of madness and Wonderland's war in the mix woopwoop! It made me want to try final girl, even though i never play solo games (i always think "if im setting up a table to game, i'd rather have other people around the table" however of course that never happens as often as i like so, maybe there is a place for one solo game in my life 😁) Cheers guys!
So happy to see Obsession so high, Jamie! LOVE Obsession. I’m really bad at picking favorites, but whenever I’ve ranked, this ends up number 1. Just love it!
Great lists! Some absolute fire 🔥 games here. Shout out to The Castles of Burgundy, Star Wars Rebellion, Wonderlands War, and Obsession as some of my favorites as well.
Agricola is one of my favorite games. Choosing your cards is one of the best experiences in board gaming, especially for those who have enjoyed CCGs and enjoy deck construction.
Loved the list! Like Jamie, I am in awe of Final Girl. This game is so fun!!! And, I am glad to hear you talk about Root. I have seen this game around alot. But never played. I am quite curious about it and your description intrigues me even more. I think I will have to try to play this sometime soon.
Well, an app might have helped 😂 my friend and I spent 3 hours to find tutorials and battle our way through a first play. The ick was strong with this one. 😅 Need an experienced player and more than 2 to probably get a good play.

Świetnie odzwierciedla klimat konfliktu... 1. Bonfire - jak wzajemnie zazębiają się mechaniki w tej grze, to jest po prostu niesamowite !! 😉
Root is also my favorite game. The biggest hurdle for me is finding people who are willing to commit to a game that they realize they need to play regularly to learn the rules and strengths and weaknesses of the factions. Fortunately, the basic rules are simple and thanks to the faction game boards, players are well guided through their turns. There are far more complex games out there, but it's not a family-friendly, easy game like Settlers of Catan, even if it looks like one. But if you have a group with whom you play regularly and you like asymmetrical area control games, it's a clear recommendation!
@@FostertheMeeple Did I understand correctly that the app allows you to pause the game without having to play it in one go? I have the game on the Nintendo Switch but I'm not aware of this function. The app is great for playing against experienced players, but I prefer to play with friends at the table :)
Off the top of my head, these are my top ten: 10. The Downfall of Pompei. This is such a fun game that I often don't care if I win. I bought little meeples to use instead of the cubes and it makes a difference, as you toss them into the volcano! 9. Terraforming Mars: The Dice Game. The newest game on my list, it has quickly become one of my favorite games. 8. Forest Shuffle. Another new game. My group can't seem to get enough of it. (Note: 8 and 9 could easily be swapped) 7. Star Wars: Outer Rim. Another great game, it is a simpler Xia. 6. Splendor/Century: Spice Road. Almost impossible to tell apart - both are great. 5. Ticket to Ride. A great game for almost any group. 4. Wizards of the Grimoire. I love this game. 3. King of Tokyo. One of the best, simple games ever made, anyone can play this. 2. Res Arcana. This one gets played at least twice a month. 1. Jump Drive. This one gets played at least four times a month. I have worn out two copies of this game and am on my third. Special. Dungeons and Dragons. If this was a boardgame, it would blow all the others away. I have been playing this for almost 50 years and I love it, both as a player and a game master. Nothing else comes close.
You are my favorite people I've never met! Great list, thank you! I have to admit, I have Cuba Libre and still haven't tried it. It looks like a daunting game to learn. I just need to be better...be brave.
Its wild to see how much your gaming tastes have evolved over time. Also the average game complexity of games you enjoy has really gone up. Great lists.
Final Girl for the win. I think it’s fair to say that you drew the attention of VRG because of your passion for FG. You were promoting it so hard, they may as well have seen you as an employee ❤ It’s like when someone asks you to be their child’s godparent, you are FG’s Godmother 😅
Thank you very much for this series, I have discovered some new games that I would like to try. Reggie already said it but, for what is worth, Iron Man is not the friendliest character in Marvel Champions and it could feel quite frustrating. Have a nice one!
Nice top 10 lists! Expected most of them but always nice to see love for less spoken games, like Cuba Libre, Dominant Species, Vast, Stardew Valley. My personal top 10 goes 10. Twilight Imperium 4th ed 9. Grand Austria Hotel 8. Concordia 7. Terraforming Mars 6. Paladins of the West Kingdom 5. Teotihuacan 4. A Feast for Odin 3. Marco Polo II 2. Path of Light and Shadow 1. Dune Imperium (Uprising) Probably only no. 2 is rare. DI using Uprising with the spies and then the improved Green spaces, reduced power of Heighliner, the Conflict victory symbols are all better, and works so well with Rise of Ix expansion. I daresay it made my fav game better!!
I really enjoyed my play of wonderland's war, but man...that set up and tear down time...woof...beautiful game though. Oathsworn is my No. 1 of all time, Dune Imperium is my number 2.
Hey gang! Awesome list of games, especially Kansan EV and Star Wars Rebellion. Just to mention, if you haven't played Star Wars Rebellion with the expansion, I highly recommend it. It changes the way that combat occurs and make it less "lucky". You still need to roll the dice but you get to choose from a set of advanced tactic cards... really improves the combat.
Little late to the party here, but great vid to cap off the top 50 guys! Mansions of Madness was my second game to buy when getting into the hobby bc it was on sale for $30... my first was villainous, so it was great to see both of those on the top 50!
Glad you both have found enjoyment in TMB one of my favorite games. Take a look at Cloudspire by CTG if you haven’t already done so. It too is right next to TMB as one of my favorites for different reasons though.
Agricola and Kanban are in my Top 10. The feeding your family thing turned me off my first play of it, but it's such a critical element of the theme and experience. Love me some Uwe! Also, i had no idea you could win Arnak without going up that track, which made me hate that game. Maybe I'll give it another shot on BGA sometime.
Obsession, Stardew Valley, and Star Wars Rebellion all cross over with my top ten! Amazing games. I also finally played Rebellion for the first time this year and immediately was wowed by it
I see a lot of crossovers! Great video as usual guys. If you had asked me the last 5 years what my top game of all time was, it would have remained the same; But now it's finally been dethroned and bumped to 2. I am just in love with Too Many Bones. It scratches all the right itches and ticks all yhe boxes that make a great game for me. I just wish some of the Tyrant battles were better. Anywho, here's my top 10! 1. Too Many Bones 2. Spirit Island 3. Nemesis 4. Marvel Champions 5. Cthulhu:Death May Die 6.The Crew: Mission Deep Sea 7.Dune Imperium 8. Root 9. Lost Ruins of Arnak 10. Gloomhaven
Great list, kudos on creating such enjoyable content! Here's my own top 10. 1. This War of Mine: The Board Game 2. Firefly: The Game 3. EXCEED Fighting System 4. Way of the Fighter 5. Glory to Rome 6. Innovation Deluxe 7. Leaving Earth 8. Zombicide 9. Marvel Champions: The Card Game 10. Room 25
Lovely list with some crossovers from mine. My top 10: 1. Marvel Champions 2. Cloudspire 3. Voidfall 4. Pax Pamir 5. Final Girl 6. Bloodstones 7. Beyond the Sun 8. Spirit Island 9. Root (app)
Great list as always! I've just played Obsession in the past couple of months, and I loved it! I gotta introduce Alicia to this game. I wish that I could get her to play Star Wars Rebellion.
Love final girl and it is by far my fav game aswell. It just plays so well and comes with high difficulty due to the randomness of roll dice and outcomes of the horror deck which gives it a very thematic feel to the horror tropes. I like to add that the different videotapes comes with different killers and all play different but plays like the inspiration to the horror films. To me this game is like the dark souls of board games and excited to try out the new season of killers
I made mine after watching this, but you have to know, before judging me that I hate euros in general with a few exceptions. Also I haven't played a lot of games that I own and I think would be in that list like Inis, (i need to play more Cyclades also), Everdell, Marvel Champions, Star Wars Imperial Assault. 01 - Kemet 02 - Dice Throne 03 - Legendary Marvel 04 - Century Spice Road 05 - Abyss 06 - Azul 07 - Fury of Dracula 08 - 7 Wonders 09 - Twilight Imperium 4th ed. 10 - Pandemic Legacy: Season 1
WHOA WHOA WHOA JAMIE'S NUMBER 4! I AM BLOWN AWAY. UP 44 SPOTS. PLS PLS PLS LET'S PLAY. srry for yelling i'm just hyped. Jeff: I am the world's biggest Iron Man fan, and I will be the first to admit he is one of the LEAST fun MC heroes to play. You gotta play more fun straightforward characters like Captain America, Spidey, Captain Marvel, Miles, or Doctor Strange. I promise you'll enjoy it way more. Plus, eventually, deckbuilding is like half the fun imho.
I also really love Dune Imperium and did not own it. So I purchased Dune Imperium Uprising. That definitely makes sense to do! The only downside is I usually only buy games that play very well at 2, and since it needs an automa, it’s not my fave for that. Brian Boru, Scout, and that game are kinda the only exceptions to that rule that I have kept.
Final Girl was easily my most played game last year, and with Series 3 coming out later this year, it probably will be again. Anyone familiar with you guys and your channel knows no caveat is needed with Jamie putting it at #1; she was the game's biggest cheerleader long before she worked for VRG. Talk about landing your dream job! Great lists.
Question: I love Root and that's why Wonderland War caught my eye in your top 10 list. How do the two games compare? Does Wonderland feel different enough to think about buying it or are they quite similar? How do you see the level of complexity compared to Root? Is Wonderland more beginner-friendly? Would appreciate your opinion - thx :)
To be honest those games really aren’t comparable. They’re vastly different games. I’d say WW is much more accessible than root is to new players but I’d say it’s not a light game by any means.
This is an interesting list. Unfortunately the game all have long play times, high complexity, or both, which makes this a list of games I find extremely difficult to table.
Awesome video. Jeff, Noticed that you have baseball highlights 2045 as your #50. Have you tried Football highlights 2052? Another one I'd be curious on your opinion is Mindbug which surprisingly gives me similar vibes to bh2045
Hi!! Thank you for putting this list together. You mentioned before that you are mostly a 2 player household. So are we. What do you think about Kanban for 2 players? I see mixed reviews on that online. Thanks!!
We very much enjoy it at 2!! I think it’s better at higher but enjoyable at 2. That being said what works for us might not work for you, so keep that in mind!
One of us. One of us. One of us. The epic rise of bones. Dune and arnak forever entwined. They should just make a melded game of like lost ruins of arakis. Mansions is kind of replaced for me by Arkham horror and death may die but such a good game
It worries me when i hear that feeling stupid in a game triggers you. As I'm a kind and caring person, i will help you through those moments. When it happens, i need you to repeat the following mantra until you are feeling better. Repeat after me: At least I'm not Max, At least I'm not Max, At least I'm not Max,
Do not like Dominant Species, I tried it a few times but it never felt like fun, but more like work, and I also think it is too mean. Most games in your top 10's are certainly in my top 100, the ones that are not are games I have not played yet with the exception of Dominant Species and Twilight Struggle. Love the chemistry you always get in your videos.
Wonderland’s War is definitely in my top 5. I agree it plays better with more than 2, but I disagree that I wouldn’t play it at 2. I still think it’s great at 2 players!
I was admittedly fully aware that Jamie put Villainous all the way down to number 16 on the last list, but still, my brain kept telling me I probably imagined that and she must be about to say it on here in the top 5. Reality is basically broken.
My top boardgames without ordering Brass Birmingham Castles of Burgundy Smatphone Inc Blood Rage Scythe Grand Austria Hotel Orleans Alchemists Dungeon Petz Five Tribes Kanban EV Pax Pimir Azul Summer Pavilion Luxor Four Gardens Hegemony
I’ve heard good things about dominant species for a looong time. When I first got into looking at heavier games it was right when marine came out. Supposedly it was going to be a quicker game but I’ve heard so many people say they prefer the original. I’m really curious to know what the key differences are other than the obvious marine part!
I think the biggest thing is that the OG game is a bit more procedural in nature with how the action selections work. It’s hard to explain without playing it.
I think it's a good idea to get Dune Uprising instead of the "old" base game. Would love to see someone do a video of Uprising with the expansions, seems like most reviewers haven't tried the game with expansions. Also no one seems to play the 3v3?
Great show, it’s weird that your top 10 is a little anticlimactic because you talk about your favourite games a lot. Maybe I just watch your show too much? But the surprises came from 15 to 30 I think. Anyway, great show, keep it up!
Cole Wehrle said he was inspired by COIN in designing Root, but there's basically nothing of what defines a COIN game which is in Root. I love GMT, but I actually prefer Root over COIN.
Hi everyone 💙 Which one(unfortunately can buy only base game) do you recommend to buy most of all: 1)Dune Imperium 2)GWT 2nd edition 3)Scythe 4)Earth 5)Beyond the Sun 6)Darwin's journey 7)Through the Ages 8)Carnegie 9)Ark Nova 10) TM 11)Blood Rage 12)Wyrmspan P.S: ...to be more deep strategy, less luck, replayable, not boring, multi and solo at the same time. Thanks in advance 💛
I'm a fan of Uwe as well. I haven't played Agricola, FFO, and some of his older games. Ive played his lighter games like New York Zoo and Patchwork. Of his games siimilar to Agricola, I played LeHavre, Caverna, and Fields of Arle in that specific order. I enjoy Caverna more than LeHavre but Fields of Arle is by far my favorite Uwe "heavy" game. If you get a chance to play it, try it out. It's 2 player or can be played solo. Jamie will probably have reservations vecause, as in typical Uwe fashion, there's feeding involved 😂.
Do you guys know if there’s a major difference between the old and new edition of dominant species? I’m not finding it online and the difference in price is 50$
All your games are great I have most of them but regarding the root, I could not get into it, it is way too asymmetric for me and I found it hard to remember all the faction's rules and how to play them and that ruined my experience, I felt like I had to learn a new game with each faction and, on the other hand, if I don't understand my opponent's faction I have no clue if he is cheating or even what he is doing and due to that I discovered I don't enjoy the game! I had the same thing with Mageknight every time we wanted to play it I had to learn it all over again ... those 2 games are the only 2 games in my library of games I find hard to remember rules and get back into it after not playing them for a while ...
What a solid pair of Top Tens. Jamie, I love Obsession solo, but haven't played it in a while because I've been playing too much Final Girl! I knew the VRG Disclaimer was coming, but we all know that you joined VRG _because_ you love Final Girl, and not the other way around.
Stardew is definitely harder at 2. We have only ever won with 4, it's just about the action economy. Sure, you need more of each item with higher player counts, but its so much easier to accomplish everything you need to with more actions at your disposal to do the little things while someone is chipping away at fishing or mining.
Thanks for this year's list, guys. I guess we'll stay tuned for when you'll have more on Paetron (or Discord?). Are you thinking 51 through 100? I'll be curious to see where some of the games that fell off your 50s (Fuji Flush, SCOUT, Dwellings of Eldervale, Shores of Tripoli, Fantasy Realms, Godfather, Camel Up, etc.) wound up.
I think we can all agree the real no. 1 is Jeff’s hat
I can agree with this!!

1. Too Many Bones
2. Spirit Island
3. Nemesis
4. Marvel Champions
5. Cthulhu:Death May Die
6.The Crew: Mission Deep Sea
7.Dune Imperium
8. Root
9. Lost Ruins of Arnak
10. Gloomhaven
Great list! Thanks for sharing
Great list, kudos on creating such enjoyable content! Here's my own top 10.
1. This War of Mine: The Board Game
2. Firefly: The Game
3. EXCEED Fighting System
4. Way of the Fighter
5. Glory to Rome
6. Innovation Deluxe
7. Leaving Earth
8. Zombicide
9. Marvel Champions: The Card Game
10. Room 25
Thanks for sharing!
Lovely list with some crossovers from mine.
My top 10:
1. Marvel Champions
2. Cloudspire
3. Voidfall
4. Pax Pamir
5. Final Girl
6. Bloodstones
7. Beyond the Sun
8. Spirit Island
9. Root (app)
Great list as always! I've just played Obsession in the past couple of months, and I loved it! I gotta introduce Alicia to this game. I wish that I could get her to play Star Wars Rebellion.
I think she’d like it!
Love that!! Thanks for sharing
Lost ruins of arnak - the missing expedition is so good and I think will bring LROA up your rankings next year.
It’s crazy how much I agree with Jeff’s list. My man.
Twins!
01 - Kemet
02 - Dice Throne
03 - Legendary Marvel
04 - Century Spice Road
05 - Abyss
06 - Azul
07 - Fury of Dracula
08 - 7 Wonders
09 - Twilight Imperium 4th ed.
10 - Pandemic Legacy: Season 1
No judging! This is a great list of games you enjoy!! I appreciate you sharing!
Haha I’ll have to give it another try!!
When you put the Final Girl cover next to Jaime, they look very similar. Still on my list to try at some point.
Fair enough!! Good to know, thanks!
Thank you!!
You guys are very intelligent and knowledgeable IMHO. Personally I prefer simpler games, but your reviews are nonetheless very compelling. 🙂
Mansions is fabulous! Still my number one game. Pick up the fan made Valkyrie app for 2-3 dozen more scenarios to run!
Ohhh cool!! Thank you!
This is an interesting list. Unfortunately the game all have long play times, high complexity, or both, which makes this a list of games I find extremely difficult to table.
Fair enough!
Awesome video. Jeff, Noticed that you have baseball highlights 2045 as your #50. Have you tried Football highlights 2052? Another one I'd be curious on your opinion is Mindbug which surprisingly gives me similar vibes to bh2045
Haven’t tried FH 2052 or Mind Bug! Have heard good things about mind bug though
Anybody looking at Dominant Species should give Cones of Dunshire a look.
Jamie had to explain this reference to me, well played!
Uwe month?!? Yes! Can't wait
That being said what works for us might not work for you, so keep that in mind!
wow TMB and MC is that high, we should be friends! haha.
Though ofc Villainous is the top for you, looking forward to more Disney expansions.
One of us. One of us.
Repeat after me: At least I'm not Max, At least I'm not Max, At least I'm not Max,
Hahahahahah
Do not like Dominant Species, I tried it a few times but it never felt like fun, but more like work, and I also think it is too mean. Most games in your top 10's are certainly in my top 100, the ones that are not are games I have not played yet with the exception of Dominant Species and Twilight Struggle. Love the chemistry you always get in your videos.
Fair enough! Not every game is gonna be a hit
Wonderland’s War is definitely in my top 5. I agree it plays better with more than 2, but I disagree that I wouldn’t play it at 2. I still think it’s great at 2 players!
We play it at 2! We were just saying you will miss out on the bidding which we think is a very fun part of the game!
I love the look on his face when you say Star Wars didn't make your top 50 lmfao
Dunne uprising is what you want. Arnak is also good
I was admittedly fully aware that Jamie put Villainous all the way down to number 16 on the last list, but still, my brain kept telling me I probably imagined that and she must be about to say it on here in the top 5. Reality is basically broken.
At least Jeff is keeping things somewhat sane with Root at number 1. Thank you sir 🫡
My top boardgames without ordering
Brass Birmingham
Castles of Burgundy
Smatphone Inc
Blood Rage
Scythe
Grand Austria Hotel
Orleans
Alchemists
Dungeon Petz
Five Tribes
Kanban EV
Pax Pimir
Azul Summer Pavilion
Luxor
Four Gardens
Hegemony
Thanks for sharing!!
Dune Imperium (+ rise of ix) is my favorite ever.
Atta boy getting Twilight Struggle on top 10s still in 2024. What an absolute masterpiece
It really is!
Too bad I can't find cuba Libre, id buy it!
I think it's a good idea to get Dune Uprising instead of the "old" base game. Would love to see someone do a video of Uprising with the expansions, seems like most reviewers haven't tried the game with expansions. Also no one seems to play the 3v3?
We will see what we can do!
Good list
Jeff's top games, wow
Great show, it’s weird that your top 10 is a little anticlimactic because you talk about your favourite games a lot. Maybe I just watch your show too much? But the surprises came from 15 to 30 I think. Anyway, great show, keep it up!
Lol! Not sure what to say to that one.
Cole Wehrle said he was inspired by COIN in designing Root, but there's basically nothing of what defines a COIN game which is in Root.
I love GMT, but I actually prefer Root over COIN.
Love to see Vast here
It’s a great game!
thanks for the video have you tried any of the other Vast games and Vital Lacerdas other games
We haven’t! Not yet.
Dune 2 movie in theaters in 3 weeks! Also, you keep making me spend money! 😂
Apologies to your wallet!
Hi everyone 💙
Which one(unfortunately can buy only base game) do you recommend to buy most of all:
1)Dune Imperium
2)GWT 2nd edition
3)Scythe
4)Earth
5)Beyond the Sun
6)Darwin's journey
7)Through the Ages
8)Carnegie
9)Ark Nova
10) TM
11)Blood Rage
12)Wyrmspan
P.S: ...to be more deep strategy, less luck, replayable, not boring, multi and solo at the same time.
Thanks for sharing!
lol that arnak troll!! 😂
We out here!
Do you guys know if there’s a major difference between the old and new edition of dominant species? I’m not finding it online and the difference in price is 50$
I wouldn’t say major difference, but the action selection system is different for sure.
No Villainous?!? Anywhere on Jamie’s list?? Shocked!! I thought she’d at least explain why it didn’t show up anywhere. Interesting
It did show up in the top 50, just not the top 10! You’ll have to watch to see where it fell and why!
That’s fair! Not every game is gonna work for everyone
Only one crossover. That is surprising.
Jeff, have you tried Le Havre? I wonder if that would rank higher compared to other Uwe games...
I haven’t yet!! Very much want to try it though
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
Have you guys tried bigger war games like Eclipse second dawn and Twilight Imp.?
We haven’t!
What a solid pair of Top Tens. Jamie, I love Obsession solo, but haven't played it in a while because I've been playing too much Final Girl!
I knew the VRG Disclaimer was coming, but we all know that you joined VRG _because_ you love Final Girl, and not the other way around.
Truth!
Stardew is definitely harder at 2. We have only ever won with 4, it's just about the action economy. Sure, you need more of each item with higher player counts, but its so much easier to accomplish everything you need to with more actions at your disposal to do the little things while someone is chipping away at fishing or mining.
That’s really good to know!
It’ll likely be 51-100!!
Somehow, my list is listed three times. Weird.
Glad Castles of Burgundy was in a top 10!
Top 3 games I’ve never played but need to -
1. Root
2. Final Girl
3. Cuba Libre
What am I doing with my life?
I ask the same question about you, every day.
@@FostertheMeeple LOL ok that what made me actually laugh out loud. Troll.
LET'S GOOOOOOOO. Will report back after ia ctually watch the video XD.
Update: this is the best game list in the universe. OBJECTIVELY.
Objectively, correct ;)
Need to do your top list of Kanban games.
if Root ia number one, silver bullet needs to be number 0. it’s beyond classification.
Did you ever play Distilled? Would you do a review of it? :)
We haven’t played it!
TY not to include Ark Nova! I'm so tired with this game that I never liked! With you I fell less alone on earth! :)
Stardew Valley is my favorite game on this list. It's such a fun co op game and I don't usually like co ops. And I'm with Jamie, I HATE Agricola.
