I ask for blonde streaks i walk away with ginger, i ask for a trim, they chop off heaps…im really not fussy person im pretty honest, i ask for chunky streaks i get streaks that are so fine they blend with my brown hair..i gave up on hair dressers years ago. I have been educating myself about hair. I will never everrrrrrr go back to a hairdresser everrrrrrrr again. I will learn to do it myself. 5 years in..best decision i have ever made.

I gave up. I went for the balayage with no price limit. I saved up 5 bills for my dream hair. Consult, everything. I ended up with black roots and brassy dried yellow hair (was okay but the toner washed out the first wash). My hair is naturally blond so this should not have happened. It was very hard to get rid of the black lowlights. She refused to do balayage and said it would be fine. I am now using a 9.5 blond ash box from walgreens and I have to be okay with this.

Exactly my point. I used to dye my hair myself for over 10 years, looked ok, suited my skintone. But I decided to leave my hair to the professionals, so I went to 3 hair stylists this year- big mistake. First treated me like shit, I felt miserable (got toned much darker than I wanted). Second just dyed my hair ashy total blonde instead of Californian blonde. Third- now I have fantastic ginger roots. I'm done

I took away ONE thing from this video….. YOU ARE AN AMAZING HAIR DRESSER. Never have i ever heard a hairdresser talk so passionately about client’s hair. I’m 35….. and hated every single haircut I’ve gotten. Where can I go get my hair cut and dyed by you?? 🥺🙏🏼

I love how you ask the client back to know exactly what they want.
I had a haircut once where i said pretty clearly what i wanted; shorter, ALL dry ends shopped off, it's ok if its 5cm.
So she cut and then she proudly said that she kept it as long as possible! I had her recut 2 times because she didn't cut enough. I even pointed at my hair saying to where she could cut. After the 2nd recut, i said it was ok, even though i wanted some more chopped of with layers.. but i was already there what felt like an eternity and i saw how tired she was.
I think she was so influenced by clients who said what they wanted and didn't mean it that she was too scared to give me what i asked for :D
I kinda felt sorry for her in the end. She got tipped and everything

I lived in a small town as teen (this was in the 90's) Whenever I'd get my hair cut there, the cut was fine, but they had absolutely NO idea how to style my hair. They would either slather a bunch of sticky stuff in it, or make me leave with damp, half frizzy hair. One time the stylist even tried to hand me the blow dryer to get me to do my own hair. My hair isn't complicated, it just has a little texture. Not even to the point of being curly. For a while I dreaded going in for cuts and did all I could to avoid it. When I moved to the city on my own, things things were SO much better. The stylists knew how to weild a round brush and send me off with beautiful hair. I didn't feel like I had to rush home and fix it. Or wash it. It was such a relief.

I can't imagine how hard it is for hairstylist. I am a very forgiving client, but I really don't think I have ever left a stylist with the hair color I want. The last time I went to a stylist I decided to take a picture of my own hair with the color I wanted. (I had achieved that color in the picture at home but it is so difficult getting the back) It was my natural hair color root that is like a 7 with a light butter blonde length in balayage type highlights. She made my hair salt and pepper colored. She processed the highlights way too long under heat and made the lowlights too dark with a very ashy tone.

I've NEVER left a salon happy with my hair.
I go in, with specifics of what I want, and walk out with nothing close to it.
Ask for ashy blonde balayage... walk out with highlights and them not even dying the rest, not even the roots full of greys.
Go in asking for a natural ginger blonde... walk out with dark red.
Ask for a longer detached a-line, specifying that I want the front sections to be a good 2-3" longer... walk out with.. not that. Not even an a-line. Front lined up.
All of these from reputable salons and stylists. All of these that i vetted on socials and seen they did good work.
They just never seem to do it for me.

I remember a haircut i had a long time ago like it was yesterday. I saved up money to go to a fancy salon in the city that had a big name, i was so excited to go to this salon and get the hair i wanted... The salon was extremely busy and the woman who sat me seemed super distracted as i showed her photos. I had virgin hair around 16-18 inches long and wanted my firts colouring experience to be special. I showed pictures cut out of magazines (this was 2008) of deep plum hair and knew that my hair would have to be lightened. The woman said cool and took me to get my hair washed. Another girl came over, someone different, and started putting my hair into sectins and elastics. Again, i had never had my hair coloured before so i wast sure of the process. She took a big pair of scissoris and cut off one of the lengths in the elastic... I GASPED!!!! She looked at me confised and pointed to the pictyre on top of the pile infort of me of a deep plum PIXIE CUT!!!! To make matters worse the first cut she made was on the top section so i couldnt even just go for an undercut.... theyhad to carry on with the pixie cut as i cried and was so angry, They told me to calm down and still demanded payment while i stood crying. I was too old to be treated like a teen but too young to know what i know now. worst experience of my life!

I have to admit I lived in bigger cities most of my life and hated my hair! Actually moved to a small town in Colorado and this lady understands my hair and I love it every time she cuts it! I’m in a bigger city now and refuse to see anyone!😂 I will be in desperate need of a trim when I get back home? But she’s like you! Totally listened, then made her suggestions which were spot on! She knew what I wanted before I did! Got to give great kiddos to amazing hair dressers everywhere! You are magic!

These comments! I agree, maybe 2 times I've left a salon happy. I have thick, curly, kinky & fine hair. They want to thin it or layer it. I had one stylist "stack" my hair in back!? It took months to grow out. Count me in as another woman who won't go to a salon again. Sylvia, pretty sure I'd trust you though.

  • @Tasadal1
    @Tasadal1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

I’ve never left a salon happy with my hair as well. I usually have a short gradual bob with longer ends on the front. It’s is nearly impossible to find a stylist who doesn’t screw up this haircut. I’ve left feeling so embarrassed and ugly. I wish i had long hair but my hair just doesn’t grow. Then the color. The number one thing I always say is NO GOLDEN tones. And EVERY time I leave with golden tones. I always ask for cool and they still will do something golden. It’s unreal. My last appointment a month ago has destroyed my hair. And this is supposed to be a higher end salon. The first two appointments she did ok. I was going lighter from about a level 4 originally. By this third appointment I was already about level 7/8 and we were supposed to go lighter and cooler. I was very specific that I don’t want a full blonde color because it’s not flattering on me. I need dimension. I mentioned that in each appointment. And I also said I do not want brown roots-like no brown root smudge. It was supposed to be black. She ended doing a full bleach, no foils, and when she was washing me out she said oh I don’t have the toner you wanted for the roots so I’ll just use what I have. Which ended up being a copper golden brown. The root color was hideous. Like a shiny penny. And my hair color so ugly. It was still a golden yellow and had so many orangey looking streaks through it. I hated it and we decided I would come back next day to correct it. She ended up doing a bleach wash on me and darken my roots. But she used 40 volume and left it on for 30 minutes. My hair started to break off everywhere. And she messed of the roots. She did black but it looks banded and some of the copper still stayed. So after spending almost $300 I’m left with what looks like grown out roots, a copper band. And then golden colored hair. And it’s completely damaged. It’s jagged and shorter than my chin and it looks like a have baby hairs all over because it’s all broken off. I’m so depressed.

I'm never really happy with my colour. I never know what to tell her. I say I don't want stripey highlights and I want the face framing highlights but then she doesn't do them thicker she just does normal highlights in the front. I want what you have, can you explain what yours is? Balayage, root smudge, highlights? Like I love when you can't see where the highlights start, they are blended at the root but they also stand out like yours.

    Hello Sylvia!
I have to agree with Sabine, not all hairdressers are quite honest when explaining things. Four and a half years ago I did go for the last time to the hair salon. All I asked for was for 1" trimming and to retouch the color. By the time I looked up from being on my Mobile phone. I thought 'Good'. A couple of days later my hair was falling off. I went back to Michaela and showed her. She shrugged it off as 'maybe you should buy one of these products on the wall to fix the problem' This made me furious. During the next four years my hair has struggled with absorbing nutrients. I wanted my money back but unfortunately they don't refund. I'd begun washing my hair once a week, sometimes once a month. Once with just conditioner not shampoo and I've bought chemical free, vegan hair products. My hair is showing its original shine and shape all thanks to you and your wonderful advice. I don't trust anyone with cutting my hair anymore so I cut it myself, just a small trim. I am very excited about your Masterclass. I will definitely watch it! Thank you! 💕 💕

Is it just me or does it seem like it gets harder the better you get to know your stylist and the more friendly you become? I've seen this a lot recently, people who want you to understand the lingo and differences, but they don't want you to use the lingo, like what? if I truly understand a concept it shouldn't matter the words I use, rather creating understanding around what I would like to have by the end of the session.
You can't say you want to spread the knowledge and at the same time treat me like I'm 5. I get this a lot at the Dr's. English is not my first language, and I picked up some highly technical terms that ARE the terms I GO TO automatically. "Use your own words" - These ARE my words!
Everyone has a blueprint for communication, and I swear, you have to relate to it and talk to them in their accepted way that will ultimately make the communication the best it can be. And yeah, sometimes people just want you to use words and concepts that will make them feel superior explaining to you what you already know.

After she rinsed she told my mom “oh I used a different color because I thought it would look better” when my mom already loved the original one. She never ran the idea past her and just did what she liked. Needless to say my mom was pissed and rightfully so. I'm looking at photos from when I was in high school twenty five years ago and noticing my hair cut hasn't really changed. I get caught because I know whatever change happens also has to deal with the large patches of gray on top of my head that need to be covered.

I’m 35 and I’ve basically had the exact same hair style since I was about 13. Long hair layered at the ends with long curtain bangs, I don’t dislike it but I also don’t necessarily love it. I did cut it short once but I wear my hair in a ponytail a lot and I didn’t like my little tiny ponytail. I just don’t really know what else to do with it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think people always want what they can’t have that’s partly why they are not happy when they leave the salon. I have very fine medium to dark brown hair with a wavy texture. So of course I want thick blonde hair or Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman thick red hair. It’s never going to actually do that. The pandemic helped me grow my hair finally to a really pretty length. And I just focused on hair masks and like not trying to mess with the color until I know exactly what I want. And it looks really healthy and long and I’m finally kind of happy with it.

Im planning to go to the hairdresser for my birthday for the first time. i've found already a very specific picture of the color that i would like to dye my hair. but just to make it more clear i looked up information at what levels the hair color is since it also has highlights added. My explenation would be " Level 8 hair color on the warm side with highlights and a slight pink shine to it, with roots staying dark." Would that be clear enough for the hairdresser?

So many hairstylists are either great in knowing their color and suck at style or cutting or they cut great suck in color is hard to find a hairdresser with a great knowledge in color , style, and cut i have had great color hairstylists but then heir cut or style was mediocre and that is a fact

I had a coworker who went to get her hair done one afternoon and told me she was going to go platinum Marilyn Monroe blonde. She was kinda basic, sort of a natural mousy brown to dark blonde, medium length bob with slight natural wave. She said, "you know I've been thinking about it, and I just think I'm ready to make a change like this." She didn't strike me as a platinum blonde type but I'm all for people making big splashy hair decisions so I said "eff yeah go for it, man." She came back the next day and with subtle highlights. She was clearly talked out of it by her stylist. It makes me laugh so much because she is exactly the kind of person who would flip out if the expectation in her head doesn't match reality and the stylist smelled that a mile away.

The last time I really loved my hair was 4 years ago when i got ombre with black roots and light ends. After that I’ve had a few times a more modernized look that reminds me of the hair i loved. I have had balayage with brown roots, highlights etc. But those more ”modern” hairstyles always look somehow kind of dull on me.

Would you consider inventing a halo or ponytail for fine hair. I’ve spent over $1000.00 trying to find one that works. They are all heavy and thick. The ponytail circumference are I’m usually around 2”

Hello everyone, i need help :( i have been struggling with the same hair concern for years. My natural hair is 1A wavy and i always straightened my hair as it get really puffy if i don’t. I always use hair mask once a week and use heat protectant before styling my hair. In the room temperature, my hair looks healthy just like normal hair. In the air conditioned room, my hair becomes dry, stiff, puffy and the ends is brittle. In the hot weather, my hair becomes puffy, frizzy, and looked really damaged. On rainy days, my hair becomes super poofy and super frizzy. Even if i do the wavy hair routine, my hair won’t last longer as the waves only stay for a day. Because of this, i have never been confident to wear my hair as it is. I always do ponytails or tie my hair in any style. My hair has always been my biggest insecurity. I am thinking of doing keratin treatment but im afraid of damaging my hair even more as the keratin treatment only last for about 6 months and my hair will be back to normal. What should i do?

Coconut oil, biotin, trimming split ends when you see them, don't color your hair too often, don't wash it everyday and use a heat protectant before using hot tools has helped me drastically.

I've never loved my hair simply because it is fine and frizzy. If I use heat on it too much it breaks off so I'm stuck with a perma Bob. And if I don't use heat it breaks off anyway because of water damage and also just looks frizzy and crap, even with hair products.
There's no winning tbh and it's no hairstylists fault. That's what I was born with.

What I dislike about my hair:
    - I lose sooo much of it every day.
    - I've had gray hair strands since I was like 21-22, even if none of my parents had that early graying.
    - A lot of small hairs (that are growing out) sticking out on my head.. so my hair looks very frizzy.

I can only speak for my self, but a cut will have more benefits to your hair than a treatment will in the long run. I will offer a treatment on top of a cut but never really in place of one.

I started doing this during the pandemic when Salons were closed to help my audience still love their hair. I learned that there was a bog need for this service that I have continued to offer this service even after salons opening back up.
